Romantic getaway with private hot tub and sea and mountain views. In the summer, stunning sunsets provide a kaleidoscope of colours, and in the winter there’s a chance of seeing the Northern Lights.

Close to the shore and overlooking the bay, this luxury cottage is an idyllic retreat for a couple holidaying in the Highlands. Far from the rush of everyday life, amidst the dramatic beauty of northwest Scotland, you can bask in the tranquillity and share romantic evenings together. Stroll into Poolewe village, only half a mile down the road, for supplies.

From the charming and quirky décor in the lounge to the stylish kitchen/diner, the cottage is warm and welcoming with cosy and colourful interiors. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out towards the stunning sea views, which you can enjoy from both the lounge and bedroom.

Arrive back at the cottage after a day out and light the wood burner if there is an evening chill in the air. While the lounge warms up, prepare a romantic meal for two in the well-equipped kitchen. Set the table and enjoy a relaxed dinner together, then retire to the lounge for a soft seat. Choose a playlist for the Bluetooth speaker and curl up on the sofa with a glass of wine or dram of whisky. Watch a favourite programme on Sky TV or read a book. Head down the hall for a soothing soak in the walk-in shower, then climb the stairs to get cosy in bed.

On the first floor, snuggle down in the king-size bed for a night of undisturbed sleep. Revel in the peace and quiet, and wake to spectacular views of morning sun glistening on the water.

The lounge’s patio doors lead you straight onto the decked area. Here, there is seating for al fresco dining as well as your very own hot tub. Sit back and enjoy the sunset, toasting to an incredible stay. Outside, there is also a fruit garden where you can pick the fresh fruits of the season.

A visit to this corner of Scotland wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Inverewe Garden (1 mile). Managed by the National Trust for Scotland, wander through the rare species and colourful blooms of this extraordinary botanic garden, created in the 19th-century. There’s also a museum and gallery, and a cafe for a light bite in between exploring.

At The Perfume Studio (9.5 miles), browse the selection of locally crafted soaps and scents on offer in the shop, perfect as a thoughtful souvenir for friends and family. When you’ve made your purchases, order lunch in the cafe and then enjoy the drive back along the scenic road that follows the coast.

Nearby, the village of Gairloch (6 miles) is the starting point for a variety of outdoor activities. Book on a boat trip and set off from the bay to spot local wildlife, that includes whales, otters, seals, and porpoises, or head out with a local fisherman to return with a fresh catch. At the Gairloch Trekking Centre, you can experience riding along a sandy beach, an unforgettable way to spend an afternoon together.

Further afield, buy picnic essentials from Poolewe village shop and drive to Beinn Eighe National Nature Reserve (23 miles). Find out more about the area at the visitor centre before setting off on one of the many trails.

Knowledge of the disabled access suitability would be helpful. We believe the owners have previously asked for this to be highlighted. Fortunately the owners were very accommodating in changing our booking from the Write's Retreat to the Potager.

We have just returned from a week in the Potager. This was the most well situated, well equipped and comfortable place. It was warm and cosy, the hot tub was ready for our arrival and the owner was quick to come over and introduce herself. We were made to feel very welcome. Just sitting in the lounge or on the deck you will see so much; otters, seaRead morels, eagles, oystercatchers, curlews and magnificent skies. also so peaceful with only a few cars passing by (in April at least) an hour. Idyllic and away from the hustle and bustle. Great for hill, mountain or coastal walks, watching the wildlife or just hunkering down with wee dram or two and a book whilst just watching the ebb and flow of Loch Ewe and its resident Poolewe seals, otters and abundant birdlife.
