Situated on the outskirts of Inverurie within a private estate, this spectacular castle is a wonderful location for a large family and friends gathering, amid luxurious interiors and tranquil woodland.

Offering a holiday plucked straight from a fairy tale, this remarkable 12th-century castle has been renovated to create a home of simply the highest standard. The secluded location of the home ensures privacy and makes it an excellent spot for a get-together with friends or long-awaited family reunion. A host of spacious bedrooms provide more than enough space for 14 guests to stay in luxury.

Each room boasts a true sense of grandeur and it’s clear to see that the home has been lovingly furnished by a stylish eye. The colour scheme and overall theme varies from room to room, with bedrooms presenting calmer pastel colours, and the lounge and dining room adorned in daring bright shades. The home strikes a wonderful balance between modern and traditional, favouring contemporary bathrooms and kitchen units, yet utilising more traditional furniture in the lounge and bedrooms.

The shining star of the home is the opulent drawing room, an excellent space to gather and unwind together come the evening. The strong wallpaper works wonderfully alongside tall windows, and the room is filled with a bright and optimistic light, the perfect place to catch up or plan your day ahead. Evening entertainment can be found in the library, where you can curl up in front of a warming wood burner and enjoy TV as a family. Younger guests may prefer to break off and play table tennis in the games room. Whilst cooking for 14 may feel like a challenge, the chef of your family will no doubt relish the opportunity to use the classic double Aga, storing local produce in the pantry and making use of the generously spacious room. The dining room is ideal for entertaining, decorated in a noble shade of green and adorned with classic artwork and mounted deer horns, filled to the brim with the rugged character of the Scottish countryside.

Head onto the first floor via the stunning hallway, beautifully decorated with interesting artworks. Out of eight bedrooms, four are luxurious king-size rooms with contemporary en-suites, the perfect touch of luxury for the parents of the group. Antique furniture is used in an exceptionally stylish way and original elements like old feature fireplaces add to the overall charm. One of the bedrooms is a lemon-coloured triple room which is ideally suited to young cousins or siblings wanting to enjoy a sleepover.

To the rear of the property, you’ll find a vast manicured lawn, ideal for children to while away a sunny afternoon with ball games. It’s an enclosed garden, adding to the privacy and safety of this outdoor space. Plan a summer BBQ and dine alfresco at the garden furniture.

Please note there is a refundable £800 security deposit for this property payable closer to the start of your holiday.

A popular visit for all the family is Fyvie Castle, just 8 miles away. This National Trust property is an 800-year-old fortress with historical artefacts and stunning portraits. Wander around the Loch of Fyvie and keep your eyes out for ospreys, otters, herons and even bats – an excellent hotspot for nature photographers.

Those looking to spend some time in a city can head to local Aberdeen (25 miles). Spend an afternoon mooching around the Maritime Museum or the exciting Tolbooth Museum, a former 17th-century jail. The city naturally offers a host of options for drinking and dining, as well as a long, sandy beach with a leisure centre and family funfair.

The area is, of course, made famous by its iconic Scottish whisky, and you'll find yourself staying in the heart of the Malt Whisky District. This area boasts the world's largest concentration of whisky distilleries and is a must-visit area for fans of the liquor. Various distilleries offer both tastings and tours and you can rest assured that you'll find plenty of quality whisky bars in the area. The majority of the Malt Whisky Trail can be found 30 miles away, but your closest whisky distillery is just 6 miles from home.

We had an amazing week at the castle. Things started with a friendly greeting and a guided tour. There is a nice balance between the modern bathrooms and classic drawing room. This reminds you you are living in a 17th century building. The only slight negative comment is that some of the furniture still needs a bit of renovation, however this adds Read moreto the overall character of the building so doesn't in anyway spoil the experience.
