Urquhart Castle

Loch Ness Centre

Cruise the loch: Hop aboard ‘Deepscan', a seaworthy vessel captained by Alistair Mathieson who will sail you along the loch to admire its shores and explore the waters. With only 12 guests on board, this is an exciting and intimate experience where you can hunt with world-class sonar and hear all about the history of our famous myth.

Hunt for Nessie: The Quest is 5 days of exploration to solve the mystery of Loch Ness and its famous monster. Enjoy debates, searches on foot and problem solving to see if you can actually locate the elusive beast. This event will run from 22 to 25 May 2025.

Loch Ness cruise

The tours run between 1 hour and 6 hours and covers a small variety of tours, including a cruise with a visit to the magical Urquhart Castle. Some tours even include pick up from Inverness Bus Station which can make it super handy for those visiting for a day. As well as hunting for Nessie, you can admire the scenery, monuments and castles. Hop aboard and have fun!

Glen Urquhart Highland Games

The Glen Urquhart Highland Games, held annually in Drumnadrochit around August, are a vibrant celebration of Scottish culture and heritage, made even more special with the stunning backdrop of the Scottish Highlands. The event attracts visitors from all over the world who come to enjoy traditional Scottish competition sports including tug of war, caber toss, hammer throw and shot put. The most famous being the Five Sisters of Kintail, a famous mountain ridge present on every Munro-bagger’s list. The trail passes through the heart of the Glen Affric Nature Reserve, a haven for wildlife and one of the most beautiful areas in the Highlands, renowned for its diverse flora and fauna. With both hard and easy sections, this trail is suitable for all abilities, and you can do it in sections which makes it great for long and short outings. 

What is the history of Drumnadrochit?

Drumnadrochit is a village in the Scottish Highlands, located on the southwestern shore of Loch Ness. Its name is derived from the Gaelic drom nad rochit, meaning ‘the ridge with the old earthworks’, and it dates back to ancient times, with evidence of Pictish and early Christian activity in the area.

Back in the day, the village was a centre for agriculture, but today it looks very different. It became more widely known in the 20th century due to its association with the Loch Ness Monster, with many visitors coming to the area in search of the elusive creature.
