Situated in Crail's Marketgate, once the largest medieval market place in Europe, this self catering holiday house is a delightful example of the traditional architecture in the East Neuk of Fife. Originally two cottages built on top each other, this quirky house has two front doors, one with an outside "forestair". Comfortably furnished and full of character, the lower floor has a large sitting room and bedroom leading out to a charming private, but not enclosed, south facing garden. The ideal sun trap for relaxing in. The upper floor has another bedroom, a dining room, bathroom and a very small kitchen, making this holiday house a fantastic base for exploring all that the East Neuk of Fife has to offer.

With quaint little fishing villages where white washed houses with red pantiled roofs huddle around bustling harbours, this area of Fife is not only picturesque but has lots for the visitor to see and do. Crail is home to two lovely golf courses and the Crail Golf Society is the seventh oldest in the world. With the world-class golf courses of St Andrews and Kingsbarns only a short drive away, and another 38 courses to choose from in Fife, golfers will be in heaven. Visit The National Trust for Scotland’s Kellie Castle, Falkland Palace, Hill of Tarvit Mansion House or Culross Palace and get a real sense of the ancient Kingdom of Fife’s history, or enjoy the wonderful scenery of rugged cliffs and beautiful stretches of beach as you stroll along the Fife Coastal Path. Crail Pottery, where this family run business produces a diverse range of stoneware and brightly coloured earthenware, is a delight, or visit the Secret Bunker, a fascinating reminder of the Cold War - built in the 1950’s it could accommodate 300 in event of a nuclear war. For those who like to eat and drink the East Neuk offers many first class restaurants and pubs that serve local produce and freshly caught seafood to suit all budgets.

The interior and the equipment in the property was a little dated but it was clean and warm. The kitchen was on the small size with only room for one person to do any cooking. There was parking directly outside the property and it was ideal for our two dogs. Crail was lovely with a friendly pub The Golf Hotel, a fish and chip shop and a small variety of cafes and shops. The coastal path ran through the village making walking very convenient. There was a nice beach at Kingsbarns and St Andrews was only about ten miles away. We enjoyed our stay and would return to the cottage.
    Mr Thornton - May 2019
Very nice comfortable cottage with a beautiful sunny garden. The location is great with lots of interesting local places to visit, and there are good local shops. The kitchen however is very small, so if you plan to do a lot of cooking, this is not the cottage for you. Otherwise a very pleasant cottage for a very relaxing stay.
    Mrs Murray - June 2017
    Wonderful location, a real gem.
    Mrs Jones - September 2016
The cottage is located in the centre of Crail with parking right outside the cottage but off road. It is about three minutes walk from the convenience stores, green grocers, etc and five minutes from and excellent fish and chip restaurant. The harbour is about ten minutes walk. There are dog walks close by where dogs may be safely let off the leash. Crail is picturesque and makes a good base from which to explore the East Neuk of Fife. The cottage is well appointed with a small, well equipped kitchen and a very comfortable lounge. The bedrooms both have twin beds which you may prefer, or you can push two together if you like to get cosy. The back garden is beautifully maintained and a pleasant place to sit as it faces South. The East Neuk is a gem with plenty to see and a plethora of good eating places. There are some excellent beaches, especially Kingsbarn and interesting places to visit. Passing through coastal villages can be deceptive as often the main road seems a bit drab but if you follow signs to the old harbours a more attractive picture emerges.

    Mrs Macgregor - April 2016
Quaint little house and lovely location. Quite little town with a great food festival while we were there. Central location for visiting the rest of Fife
    Mr & Mrs Mcmillan - June 2015
Lovely cottage in beautiful village. Owners made us welcome. Just needed to add a hairdryer to make it perfect. We loved the Crail Harbour Cafe overlooking the sea and amazing cakes also beach at Kingsbarns.
    Mrs Brechin - July 2013
This property had everything we needed when we were looking for a base close to St. Andrews and Kingsbarns Golf Course - good parking in front, close proximity to shops, library (for looking up the next day's draw on the internet), bus stop (to travel to St. Andrews and leave the car behind) and hotel (Golf Hotel - 2 mins walk away and we would recommend it as we went back every night for our evening meals). It was clean and cosy with a pretty private garden behind, and beautifully decorated. Other than the Golf Hotel, we would recommend the Rockies Restaurant at Anstruther Golf Course nearby - good food and friendly staff.
    Miss Patterson - October 2012
we enjoyed our stay in Crail which is a lovely vllage , plenty to see in the area and the cottage was charming with lots of leaflets and helpful information at hand , the pub nearby provided good food and the whole village was a pleasure to walk around and explore with a pottery and interesting museum to visit. The whole area offers a peaceful but interesting holiday destination.
    Mrs Pattinson - September 2012
What a splendid billet, The premises oozed quality and elegance. The lead-up to our holiday was prefaced by a very high standard of communication from the owner.
    Mr Mackenzie - July 2012
We enjoyed this cottage nice garden, quite near to beach and walkways
    Ms Finlayson - May 2012
The Padkin Family had thought of everything that we would need for our holiday by the seaside - a delightful cottage and a very warm welcome. The village of Crail was particularly lovely and everyone very helpful and friendly. The Honey Pot Guest House and Tea Room was excellent - my youngest daughter said the lunch was 100 out of ten! Best carrot cake with afternoon tea - all home made and served beautifully.
