This charming two-bedroom holiday cottage is in the pretty fishing village of Crail, East Neuk of Fife. The cottage is only a 2 minute stroll from Roome Bay and from here the historic harbour is only a short stroll away via the coastal path.

Situated in what was once the largest medieval marketplace in Europe and originally two cottages built on top of each other, this charming two-bedroom holiday home is within walking distance of the thriving town of Crail. Stroll the cobbled streets to the pretty harbour and past the 12th-century kirk. Practise your swing on Crail’s two golf courses or choose from the 38 other courses in Fife alone.

A delightful example of the traditional architecture of the East Neuk of Fife, your unusual holiday cottage has two front doors, one reached via the outside forestair. With a twin bedroom on each floor, this quirky house is ideal for friends holidaying together.

Step through the lower front door and into the spacious entrance hall where there’s plenty of room to leave walking boots and wellies. A door leads into the welcoming sitting room bathed in natural light from the large picture window overlooking the garden. Squishy sofas invite you to sink into them after a day of walking and adventures. The first of the bedrooms is on this lower level, a pretty twin bedroom with wash basin and ample storage for your belongings.

Head upstairs to the first floor where a hall leads to the compact kitchen, which although small, has everything you need to prepare simple suppers. Dine together in the formal dining room with antique furniture and artwork adorning the walls. A second cosy twin bedroom overlooks the rooftops of Crail. The bathroom has a bath with shower over, wash basin and WC.

Outside is a private south-facing garden, the perfect sun trap to relax in.

Wander to the pretty harbour, treat yourself to an ice cream and admire the historic fishing cottages and boats bobbing in the bay. If you are visiting in the summer, make sure you take some time to sample the delights on offer at the Crail Food Festival.

Lace up your walking boots and join the Fife Coastal Route for a day's walking from Crail to Fife Ness and back. Along the flat route you may be lucky enough to see pods of dolphins swimming in the Firth of Forth or the large ships traversing this body of water. Stride out towards Anstruther and pass the strange rock formations at Caiplie Caves where it is said if you throw a stone through a hole in the rock your wish will be granted. At the end of the walk why not feast on some locally caught fish and chips sat on Anstruther harbour wall?

The famous golfing town of St Andrews (10 miles) is well worth a visit with its bustling streets, ancient ruins and golfing tradition. Visit the British Golf Museum situated next to the Old Course and discover the history of golf through the ages or get up close to sharks, piranhas and lionfish at the St Andrews Aquarium. Explore the Cold War history of Scotland's Secret Bunker (4 miles) where plans were made for surviving a nuclear attack.

I was really happy with the cottage and the location was perfect as the park was close by for walking the dog. Great having a view of the sea from the dining room. Although the cottage is situated back from the main road it was very quiet. The parking area is excellent.

Very nice traditional Scottish cottage in a lovely village. Quirky lay out with first floor entrance and kitchen above bedroom. Well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Crail is a very attractive village with shops, bars and cafes and a small beach. Edinburgh and St Andrews close enough foe a day out.
