Perfectly positioned on a beautiful 1200 acre farm on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne, Acharossan is a wonderfully luxurious self catering house and a striking example of old meeting new. This 18th Century traditional Scottish laird’s house has been completely renovated and carefully designed to provide exceptional comfort yet cleverly retains the welcoming, relaxed atmosphere that this part of the west coast is so well known for.

Reality will fade and your holiday begin as you travel down one of Scotland’s famous single track roads along the stunning shores of Loch Fyne towards Acharossan. From the moment you arrive you will be instantly smitten by the sense of relaxation and understated elegance of this special house in Argyll. Throughout the impressive interior, the emphasis is on comfort and simplicity with flagstone flooring, traditional sash windows, working shutters and a wonderful stone spiral staircase leading to the pretty bedrooms and en-suite state of the art bathrooms.

The elegant wood panelled sitting room with its roaring log fire is perfect for a retreat into a deep sofa with a good book, while the library, adjoining the kitchen, is ideal for those who want to play games or watch television - younger guests will love the upstairs playroom with its beanbags and mini billiards table. The large and extremely stylish open plan kitchen creates the heart of the house and is a marvellous gathering place for long relaxed holiday dinners. This fabulous room has been cleverly designed with a heated slate floor and a glass roof at the far end allowing the light to flood in. A door leads out to a stone terrace where summer meals or a barbecue can be enjoyed while marvelling at the far reaching views or cheering on a game of tennis on the court behind.

Tucked away down its own 1 mile driveway and surrounded by the most spectacular Argyll scenery, Acharossan is a glorious holiday house ideal for children who can run freely through the large open garden and explore the surrounding countryside. The estate also enjoys its own private beach and the river Auchalick runs within easy reach of the house making it ideal for the keen fisherman.

    Acharossan reviews
We (a party of six) thoroughly enjoyed a wonderful eight days' holiday at Acharossan House, a place of considerable beauty. It offered an excellent combination of very modern amenities within a refurbishment of impeccable taste that retained an ageless charm in the interior decor. We made much enjoyable use of its huge kitchen/ dining/conservatory style sitting area, as well as the two additional sitting rooms that allowed some to watch television/films in the one while others read quietly in the other. Also much appreciated were the finely appointed en-suite bedrooms and the newly available games room, in a separate building, for table tennis and pool. The tennis court was also made use of, and was in very good condition. The caretaker, Gillian, answered any and all our questions when put to her with courteous efficiency, and went above and beyond in dealing with (solving) one query (about a lost laptop charger!). The house contained many useful leaflets about local excursion possibilities that we followed up. We particularly enjoyed two visits in perfect weather to the sandy expanse of Ostel Bay, with its memorable views (though these are are almost everyhwere on Argyll's Secret Coast), as well as walking in the Glenan Woods and Otter Ferry. There is an excellent Convenience Store for ordinary groceries in nearby (10-15 mins) Tighnabruaich, though for more luxurious/exotic items we made one carefully planned expedition to Dunoon (c 60 mins). But with beauty all around you, driving - though sometimes slow because single track - provides constant rewards, including the spotting of a Golden Eagle on one occasion. All-in-all this was a fantastic holiday in a place we will much hope to return to.

It was the perfect house for a family get-together with dog & tennis included. And Cowal is a lovely area, feeling fairly remote , despite being so easily accessible from Glasgow. Do not expect much from the “broadband” but who cares when you are in such a great spot! Very friendly & helpful housekeeper - thanks for that.
    Mr Allen - September 2017
Acharossan is a large, extremely comfortable, well-appointed house. We had no complaints with the exception of my grandson who was disappointed with the billiard table (very small, under the eaves, only one broken cue). We loved the long drive from the front gate, the surrounding fields, woods and moorland, animal life of various kinds, racing burn and the excellent tennis court. The bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms were all comfortable and warm, the library was cosy for the evenings with open fireplace (which we didn't need), television, games, books to cater for various tastes. The kitchen is enormous with large stove and all utensils and equipment needed for elaborate cooking (not in our case, however). The terrace in the sunshine sitting in the Lloyd loom chairs with a cup of coffee is unbeatable. Highly recommended.

We had a wonderful stay at Archarossan! This is a lovely, large comfortable house with great quality finishings and lovely light. 3 families, 12 of us and 6 little boys between the ages of 6-10. The property, including a play room, tennis court, streams and a pond for fishing made this "little boy paradise". They never wanted to go out and asked constantly when we would go back. Fantastic kitchen for catering and lots of space for long meals and the consumption of much wine. One small criticism - they really need to fix the wifi, which is weak and unreliable. That said, our Scottish friends(we live in Hong Kng) are already planning their return visit. We would love to join them, wifi or no!
    Ms Bower - July 2016
Acharossan was a great family rental. The house itself is very comfortable but also durable so you don't need to worry about kids breaking things. The grounds are fantastic for kids to play around in and there are lots of things to do nearby including taking the ferry over to Tarbert where there are some lovely beaches on the Mull of Kintyre or fishing for Mackerel in the Kyle of Bute. There are also some good walks around about.
    Mr Rutherford - July 2016
We had a splendid time in Acharossan with it's peaceful and tranquil surroundings The children had plenty of space to run around and play The house itself has all required amenities Will definitely try to go back for another vacation
    Mr Govindan - May 2015
Sorry it has taken so long to do this. We really enjoyed the house and its surroundings. The children loved running around outside, hiding in the house, and playing tennis. One gripe is the access road. We had wanted to go out for meals etc. but the state of the road made this something we thought twice about. Our cars, both normal family models, bottomed in places and we were really worried about damaging them. Anybody in a low slung sports car would really have problems. So, although we really enjoyed the house and grounds, the state of the access would make us think twice before booking again. Hope this is helpful? Regards Mr Smith

Amazing house with every comfort. We particularly loved the kitchen and the tennis court. Fantastic scenery and very kind people locally. Housekeeper couldn't have been more helpful. And the weather was fab too. The only downside was the very long private drive - quite hard on the car!
    Mrs Graham - April 2014
A beautifully renovated property with all facilities necessary for a family stay - well equipped and welcoming. With only the sheep and occassional cow for company in a mile or so radius of the house, we felt like the local lairds. Beautiful night stars unpollutted by lights, a local bat colony, your own beach and a tennis court on which to settle family scores. Good restaurants within easy reach. Highly reccommended. Will return ourselves.
    Mrs Parker - August 2013
This was the most wonderful holiday house we have ever stayed - the spacious dining kitchen, two sitting rooms and a bathroom for every bedroom made this a fantastic and relaxing place to stay for our two family party of 4 adults and 4 children. The quality of furnishings and equipment was exceptional and the tennis court was a huge bonus. The views from the house are lovely and not another dwelling in sight - perfect!
    Mrs Heyes - April 2013
We had a marvelous stay at Acharossan House. Amazing setting with river and fallen trees nearby to occupy children of all ages. Tennis court was great for our teenager. Lots of space indoors for living and sleeping. Well organised and beautifully decorated. Kitchen well equipped. Owners extremely helpful, especially when we had a problem with heating. Beautiful beaches within a mile or so walk or a short drive. We particularly enjoyed Kilbride beach. Good for sandcastles and kites. Good pub with food at Otter Ferry.
    Dr Goldie - March 2013
Fantastic property where everything you need is provided. Lots of room for everyone. Tennis court was great for the kids along with all the inside games. Lots of lovely walks around. Would highly recommend.
    Mrs Rayner - June 2012
The facilities for cooking and catering generally were wonderful. The quality and amount of equipment meant we could be adventurous with our menus and prepared some wonderful food. We prepared log fires every night in the beautiful fire places and the supply of wood provided with the cottage had no chance of running out! Almost every bedroom had an ensuite bathroom and the quality of the decoration in every room was very high. Highly recommended for family or groups of friends.
