    Achnasmeorach House reviews
Beautiful setting for a gathering of the MacLean clan residing in Scotland and 3 US states. The house was well suited for adults and children. Plenty of space to run around. The WiFi can be a little spotty but we were able to get online for information when needed. The football pitch and the Crab Shack, were favorites! Kite flying down near the boat house was also a big hit with the kids! If the weather had been cooperative more canoeing and paddle boarding would have been done. The house was very clean, and well organized. Kitchen is large and above the usual in supplies except we could not find measuring cups or a meat thermometer? Large dining room table wonderful for family meals. Two sitting rooms were great. We designated one as a quite room and the other for kids. The conservatory was our Mah Jong room. The large round table is th perfect size! The beds were very comfortable. May we suggest USB ports in the bedrooms for plugging in smart phones and tablets. We appreciated the shower products but like the owners who have allergies, a member of our family has severe allergies to milk so the soap as wonderful as is was could not be used by that person and their family. We have been to Loch Awe before but a new adventure was visiting Cruachan power station. Good rainy day excursion. As we are MacLeans we paid another visit to Duart Castle and were lucky to meet Sir Lachlan MacLean the 28th Chief of our clan, which was definitely for the kids the highlight of their vacation! Achnasmeorach is truly a professionally run holiday house. We highly recommend for a family vacation.

What a superb holiday home. We were made to feel very welcome as the owner had been more than helpful with our booking queries, and had left some useful information regarding local places to visit and activities. The house and grounds are beautifully maintained with a fabulous games room and hot tub to boot! Each room is tastefully decorated, and you can feel yourself instantly relax when you walk through the door. Some of our group were able to explore Loch Awe using the kayaks provided, whereas the older members rented a boat for a relaxing day. We enjoyed trips to Oban (Tesco & fresh seafood) as well as visiting historic sites in the area. Beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife - we could have easily stayed for longer!
    Mr Benson - August 2017
In an amazing position, the house has been renovated to a very high standard and has lots of space with attractive public rooms. With hindsight we wished we had stayed longer and next time I will take our bicycles so we can cycle along the loch.
    Mr Morecroft - April 2017
We absolutely loved our holiday at Achnasmeorach House. The setting is simply stunning and the house is lovely. It is well equipped and has everything you could possibly need, it's very nicely decorated and made a wonderful home from home for us during our stay. The play facilities for the children are also excellent - wooden play fort in the garden, the football nets in the front garden, games rooms inside and out - all in all loads for the kids to do, even on rainy days. But the bit we loved best was the private jetty and the small section of shoreline that comes with the house - it was lovely to wander down the path to the loch side, bring a picnic down, take out the kayaks, fish from the boats or the jetty, or just look out at the gorgeous scenery - just so relaxing. There is also loads to do in the surrounding area - day trips to the islands, whisky distilleries, "safari" expeditions - almost too much to cram into just one week! I would definitely recommend this house to others - we absolutely loved it.
    Mr Mottram - August 2016
Our party consisted of ten people, my husband and I, our five children two of whom brought partners and then my mum. Despite the wide range of ages and interests and levels of fitness we were able to cater for everyone. We walked up three munros, visited Easdale Island, visited Oban, walked locally too, used the kayaks, the hot tub, the games room and then in the evening the house and the facilities meant that we could all relax and enjoy each other's company. It was superb! The house itself offered everything you could dream of and was ideal for us all. We would certainly come back again and will recommend it to anyone else. My only complaint was that the time went too quickly and the week was over in the blink of an eye!
    Mrs Williams - August 2016
Great location with magnificent views. The house has a great capacity so large groups can disperse and do their own thing both day and night. The games room and hot tub where great hits with the teenagers And everyone loved the boathouse,it's boats and pier. There's lots of extra equipment so it would be hard to improve, the wifi was a must for the younger generation, the peace and quiet likewise for the senior members. Local amenities are much better than expected with a hotel and pub in the village and more just a few miles away. Our favourite was the Glen Orchy Hotel at Dalmally. My favourite trip out was the Distillery at Oban, given better weather a day out on the loch or a cycle along the road by the loch side would have been wonderful. Perhaps a few more bikes supplied would be useful
    Dr Jolliffe - October 2014
A stunning house, tastefully and sensibly furnished with everything you would expect in a house of this grandeur. The bread maker was a great idea, wake up to the smell of fresh bread rather than the prospect of a 30 min round trip to the 'local' shop. The really good bit is the view across the loch from the main rooms or outside terrace, not another house in sight. We had great weather so plenty of swimming and canoeing on the loch and evenings in the hot tub. When you are here you don't really need to, or want to, stray far, just get 'Tesco on line' to deliver all you need, don't forget the bread flour and yeast! Our only day out was a lads event to Sutherland's Grove where we did a canyon descent - an exciting day out but make sure you have a leader who know the route.
    Mr Lowe - August 2014
This house exceeded our expectations, and I'm pretty fussy. It is both beautifully and tastefully decorated - I'd go as far to say the photos don't actually do it justice. And although the house was amazing, as were the gardens, the real highlight for us was the private jetty out onto Loch Awe, the deck area and private beach where we had bonfires, sat and drank wine, swam, kayaked, jumped off the jetty and generally relaxed. Others in our party (the kids in particular) would argue that the hot tub was the highlight - and I must admit it was our favourite spot in the evening when the kids had finally all been coaxed into bed. The location is also superb. Although 20 min down a winding road from the nearest wee village (Taynuilt, with grocer, post office, cafe, playground, and railway station) it is only 35 minutes from Oban and about the same to some stunning Munros. We spent two wonderful days climbing Ben Cruachan and Beinn Eunaich - amazing views out over Loch Awe, Mull and the other islands. We would also highly recommend a trip to the Isle of Seil and a high-speed boat trip with Sea-fari to the famous Corryvrecken whirlpool. Our party of 12 meant we had enough people to charter our own boat - everyone thought this trip was fantastic - and we ranged in age from 5 to 79, so not an easy group to please. Sea-fari were a really professional company - great commentary and service and in our two-hour trip we saw porpoise, grey and common seals, wild goats and eagles. The boat trip was finished off by a fantastic meal at the Oyster Bar - eaten on their deck overlooking the flooded slate quarry and the surrounding islands. The wonderful weather we had throughout our week-long stay meant we were out and about every day, but I think even if the weather had been less glorious we would have had plenty to do kicking back at the house. And get Tesco to deliver your food - our two deliveries meant that we wasted hardly any time shopping for food leaving us to make the most of what this beautiful part of Scotland has to offer. I hope that some day we will return as one week wasn't enough to do it justice.
    Mrs Smith - July 2014
The house offered everything that one could imagine for an extended faimily holiday covering 3 generations set against the backdrop of Loch Awe.Even though we were blessed with good weather it wouldn't have mattered as there was something to do regardless. The setting of the house is something to behold. Would have no hesitation in recommending this property.
    Mr Chapman - June 2014
We enjoyed an active and also relaxing week at the house which was undoubtedly the star of our stay. There was enough space within the house for all ages to mingle and yet allow space for separate activities when required . The garden gave enough space for the children to run around and the addition of the boat house meant we could enjoy access to the loch. We also enjoyed outings to sea world, Cruachan, the Loch Awe Smokery and took the ferry from Oban to Mull where we explored Duart Castle. The best day for the four year olds was spent paddling in the loch at Kilburn Castle and making mud pies as well as toasting marshmallows on an open fire by the boathouse (while beating off the midgies!) A very special holiday which I hope the young will remember.
    Mrs Duffus - May 2014
