Description

Tucked away just off the Shore Road, the historical house of Arandel is set in a wonderfully tranquil location yet is very close to the beach, shops and restaurants as well as all of the wide range of activities that Brodick has to offer.

Formerly the Manse of the local church, this house has been recently renovated to an exceptionally high standard offering very comfortable accommodation for up to 12 people, and would particularly suit large families or groups.  It's modern and open plan kitchen diner lends itself to entertaining, catering to the guest's every need and gives the holidaymaker the option of either dining at home in style or perhaps choosing to enjoy a meal out at one of the many fine dining restaurants in Brodick before enjoying one of the sunsets on the beach."

The large lawn at the front of the house offers an enclosed safe place to for children to play and families with very young children will be able to make use of the specially designed enclosed back garden, set on artificial grass and complete with its own toddler play area.

Visitors will be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities, especially as the house is just a short walk from the beach, swimming pools, tennis courts, golf club and bowling green.  In addition to this, the nearby activity centre offers even more, with everything from hill walking to archery and sailing, kayaking and mountain biking. For those looking for a more relaxing holiday, the numerous beaches offer the perfect hideaway or there is plenty to explore in Brodick itself, including the Castle with its gardens as well as a diverse selection of speciality shops and galleries nearby.  

Guests to this spacious family home can also look forward to sampling the fresh bread, cakes and delicious picnics available from the local bakery situated just a short stroll from the house.

    Spacious, well maintained and well positioned. Clean and well equipped. This was a great house to be in with lots of young kids. Handy to have a Co-op, a park and a little beach at the end of the road and we made the most of the playcentre and the lovely swimming pool at the luxurious Auchrannie Resort a 2 minute drive/10 minute walk away. Thank you for a lovely week.

    Eight of us including two children stayed for a week. The property is a great size and could have easily taken another four. The location is excellent, close to the shops, the beach and within walking distance of the castle and gardens. We did feel that the property is starting to need a bit of TLC especially the boiler. That aside, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it. For good family meals with entertainment thrown in, we recommend Fiddlers - just five minutes away.

    Arandel is a lovely property full of character but also has all the modern conveniences expected of a well equipped holiday home. It is spacious and has a good number of bathrooms for a house which can accommodate so many. Although we were a party of adults, it was clear that it would easily meet the needs of those with children as it thoughtfully provided a room full of toys, games and DVDs for youngsters as well as a safe and secure outdoor play area. It was also very conveniently within walking distance of many of the shops and beach in Brodick. The gift of wine and chocolates was a lovely welcoming touch. Thank you for a lovely holiday!

    Superb facilities, huge rooms and lovely location. We were only 8 so a shade lost in the huge house, 12 would fit comfortably unlike most rentals where the max number would be sardine like. Definitely superior accommodation, I aim to revisit as there are still some hills to climb and this is the ideal location to do it from. Many thanks to the owners, you even laid on good weather for us!

    We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious rooms for all, the safe and private gardens, the imaginatively equipped playroom and the very sociable dining space. Top marks for a well equipped kitchen (had great fun with the ice-maker!) and also for the Arran monopoly game, the children enjoyed spotting the place names on days out. Had a great time climbing Goat Fell, even our 6 year old made it! Taking the boat to Holy Isle with another climb, the views are breathtaking, visited the new intriguing play structure and cafe in Brodick Castle gardens, cycling to Lochranza, swimming at Auchrannie pool and playing family football and rounders on Ormidale recreation field, so conveniently close. Three of us even had our picture published in the Arran Banner as we took advantage of a family silk-painting artist-led session at the Art exhibition in Lochranza village hall! Thank you for our wonderful holiday house. Just one little request could we have a small table in the kitchen area to provide extra workspace for our shared cooking prep? See you again soon.

    I booked this property for my wife's 50th. This was also my sister-in-law's birthday so we needed a place to accommodate 10 of us. We could not have wished for a better place to have this get-together. Arandel provided generous and very comfortable space for us all. We dined at Fiddlers bistro on the Saturday night where we were all made very welcome and enjoyed the food and music very much indeed. We are already planning our return to Arandel.

    Every age catered for in the house didn't want for anything and when we had an issue with a toilet caretaker was very helpful and friendly also lots of local info about Arran to look through for places to visit. Upstairs bedrooms very luxurious lots of toys kitchen equipment and indeed supplies also a nice welcome present. We absolutely loved it and are considering returning next year.

    We were three generations (ages 9 to 68) here for a fortnight - some experienced Arran visitors, others here for the first time. The house was great for us : walking distance from the ferry, right next to shops, Post Office, Fiddlers, library.... Far enough from the neighbours to make music in the evening without disturbing anyone. Well-situated for travelling anywhere on the island. Lots of books & games for inevitable rainy hours. Great dining room easily accommodates 12 for dinner. Floor of kitchen / dining room gives space to leave wet boots and change into slippers (the rest of the house is fitted carpets....) and we managed to dry everything out OK overnight. Only one small gripe : kitchen knives and peelers were pretty blunt and we could have done with a big casserole dish / frying pan .... Had a problem with the heating on arrival : but the very friendly and helpful agents arranged for heating engineer to fix it first thing the next day (Sunday)

    Lovely house,great location. Unfortunately house was rather dusty/dirty in places and no heating in main upstairs bathroom.Only 1 of the keys worked in the back door lock. Large house but no teapot supplied, had to go out and buy our own.

    Very nice, well-maintained large family house in a very convenient location in Brodick. We had a nice time here with our party of 5 adults and 6 children. The house was very clean, well-equipped. There was a large garden front and rear. Only thing we felt is that there could have been more than two bathrooms for such a large house, even a separate downstairs wc would be good. It's been well and tastefully decorated with quality furnishings, except bizarrely the bedsheets, which were a cheap polyester. All in all, a lovely stay. We would return.

    A lovely, well situated house to spend a week in Arran. Great space for the kids and only a stone's throw away from the Brodick Restaurant for a great quality family meal. A short walk to Auchrannie with its swimming and spa facilities was useful.

    Booked Arandel for Easter weekend with all the family, 10 adults and 2 dogs, and it did not disappoint! House was very well equipped with lots of living space for everyone. A couple of the older ones mentioned it would have been nice if one or two of the bedrooms had en-suites, but as we were only there for two nights, it was not a big problem. Great location in Brodick, spent time walking, visiting swimming pool at Auchrannie and had great bar lunch in The Douglas, both short walks away! Would definitely rebook!

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
