    Ardechive reviews
Ardechive cottage was a great find. We had planned to walk on the mountains around Glen Dessary for a few days, and Loch Arkaig seemed the ideal base. The cottage was warm and welcoming on blustery chilly spring days, and we were very comfortable. Everything worked well, and the beds were comfortable after long days on the hills. It was great to enjoy some luxury in a fairly remote location: apart from golden eagles and ptarmigan we were very lucky to spot an osprey diving into the loch and emerging with a fish as we were driving along early one morning. It was a great stay, thank you.
    Mr Davis - April 2018
We had a brilliant week at Ardechive. The house location was great, peaceful and beautiful surroundings. It was perfect for walking the dogs. The house had everything we needed, it was clean, well equipped and good furnishings we very much hope to visit again. Oh! Mustn't forget to mention the wildlife truelly amazing !
    Miss Evans - July 2017
We flew into Invetness late in the evening after a serious delay from Luton. We picked up a brand new large car and were on our way. It was pouring with rain, visibility mixed. The postcode for Ardechive was incorrect. It directed us to a property four miles away from the holiday home. The road was pitch black with heavy rain and as you are aware very narrow We drove on thinking we would see a sign. The house did have its lights on, but no sign outside. Very very difficult indeed. The directions stopped after giving us road numbers. We had two children and eighty five year old and three adults. We landed at 9.30 and didn't get into the house until 1.30 am. If the directions had been clearer we would have been in there by 11.30pm. The house is on the whole good, but the sofas and chairs have stains on them, which I worried about in case you thought we had done them. The wood burner and wood was a real treat, we all loved the cosines The kitchen needed to have more equipment, tongs, oven mitts, a large frying pan and a new tall bin. I washed it out and all the water came out because it had rusted away. We enjoyed our time there but to start the holiday as we did was horrid, the children were upset. A small thing like clear directions would have made it so much better.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your review. All feedback either positive or negative is much appreciated as this will enable us to see how we can improve on our service. We are sorry to hear you had problems during your trip but we can confirm that the post code for the Cottage is as is stated on all of our websites and our guests have always been able to rely on this and no issues have previously been reported. As we are sure you are aware the Cottage is located in a remote part of the Highlands and for most this is one of its attractions. In view of your problems it may be worth us advising any future guests to familiarise themselves with the area before setting off as we do not want them to have a similar experience to that you have encountered.Thank you for drawing our attention to the various items of furniture/equipment needing attention. These issues will be addressed. We are pleased to hear your initial problems did not affect your overall enjoyment of your trip to what is a truly wonderful part of the Scottish Highlands."
    Mrs Campbell - August 2016
An excellent cottage in a brilliant location. It was extremely clean and comfortable. The location oozes peace and tranquility allowing you to relax and enjoy your holiday. We would definitely return.
    Mrs Willis - May 2016
Super views, super nature,a good place to do other excursions. So we went f.e to Inverness,we climbed to the Ben Nevis,we did walkings in Kinlochleven,Glenfinnan.......
    Mr Feyt - July 2015
Ardechive is a fantastic cottage in a splendid location. It is a long drive to the nearest shop, so stock up on arrival and enjoy the peace! Great for lochside walks, and hills behind. Good trips to Nevis Range for skiing, Achnacarry for Commando and Cameron Museums. Cycling along caledonian canal.
    Mr Mason - March 2015
Cottage was lovely. Exceptionally clean, tidy, comfortable, warm and quiet - car every few hours if that! Stayed the week and loved every minute of it. Location is perfect if you want to get away from it all...walks all around the loch and beyond with activities and things to see and so if you are fed up walking! We spent relaxing evenings by the log burner. TV for rainy evenings was big and new and a selection of DVDs had been left for us along with games and a huge pile of magazines and books...loads to choose from. The facilities at the cottage were excellent - fluffy towels, cotton sheets, tea, coffee, candles, first aid loads of kitchen bits and bobs....they even have a drying room in the garden for wet dogs and clothes and boots..the owners have definitely considered their guests and the extra touches were lovely. Everything worked perfectly and you could almost think that you were one of the first people to stay there. We loved it and would recommend it to our friends and family...not only for the quality of accommodation but the location is perfect. We took out two poodles with us and considering the place was dog friendly we could not find one dog hair or any doggy smells. The only negative that we could find was the Midge which the cottage can not do anything about...going in June we found the midge were out and about...we covered up with Smidge which worked a treat but they still found the odd bit unprotected skin! If you want a truly magical experience then take the day out and go to the very end of Loch! Pretty amazing....the road is about 25 miles or so but the jouney to the end of it is incredible....believe it or not you can even get a cup of tea at the end! We also went to the end of the Loch Archaig a few times where there are some great walks. We saw deer, Pine martin, Heron, trout and eagles so I think it was worth the odd blister! We were spoilt for choice and could have easily spent a week exploring the Loch let alone the area. This place is 10*** we loved it! Alison Davies and Nigel Clarkson
    Mr Clarkson - June 2014
Fantastic, very comfortable cottage of a very high standard. Location is 20/25 minutes from the main road on single track roads so ideal for anyone seeking peace and quiet.
    Mr Wilson - March 2014
This is our second visit to Ardechive and most certainly will not be the last. The cottage is warm, comfortable and extremely well equipped. The drive there is spectacular, through forests, past lochs, surrounded by natural beauty, the cottage sits in a clearing with views down to Loch Arkaig. The drive to the end of the loch is well worth it. This area must be one of the best places in Scotland to see red deer, wild boar, eagles and ospreys. The pheasants visit the garden daily. It's the great escape, isolated yet close to the town of Spean Bridge. Russell's Restaurant in the town is a must. Fort William is a 30 minute drive and a meal at the Ben Nevis Inn should not be missed. If you are looking for peace and relaxation, Ardechive is the place.
    Mrs Phillips-laird - December 2013
Superb cottage decorated to an exceptionally high standard throughout. The cottage is really well equipped and has everything you could possibly need including a drying room, which was really useful. It really was a home from home. Lots of little extras such a first aid kit and mossi spray which with a family was really helpful. Also log burner made the cottage really cosy. The cottage is wonderfully remote and had breath taking views and walks every where you look. Really safe for the kids who loved exploring. We took our 3 children aged 5, 12 and 13 who loved it. And yes we banned the PS3 being brought along which made for a really brilliant holiday. There is a phone but very crackly and emergency use only. There is internet connection but not sufficient for down loads just surfing and emailing. The caretaker met us on arrival and was so welcoming and a nice touch with a bottle of spring water. I would book this cottage again with and without the kids (given half a chance). As good as all of the reviews you will read. Superb.
    Mrs Willoughby - August 2013
This cottage is absolutely beautiful and set just a few yards from loch arkaig (which our dog loved). There's plenty do including visiting Fort William and climbing/bike rides in the Ben Nevis mountain range. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wished we had booked another week! Hopefully we'll be back next year.
    Mrs Moorcroft - July 2013
A beautifully finished accommodation. Located adjacent loch Arcaig and centrally located for climbing Monroes at the end of the loch or towards Fort William. Surrounded by untouched forests of both deciduos and evergreen trees ensured a wild life paradive for those interested in birds and large or small mamals. The cottage provides WiFi which is great for emails, weather forecasts etc but not suitable for larger downloads. Although all the work is now finished we were a little unlucky in respect to the very minor road that runs past the cottage having new bridges installed for forestry activities which on occasions meant heavy plant movment impacting on the tranquility. Without dog proof fencing and with the continual grazing of deer right outside the house I wold suggest ones dog should be very well behaved, great temptations, my 2 springers loved it!!. This was a delightful stay and the cottage provided every possible comfort in the most delightful of locations. I would certainly return. As a side I climbed 12 monroes and at some stage on all the days I climbed it either snowed or blew a gale not bad for mid May!!
    Mr Richards - May 2013
loved the cottage ,well equiped cosy and welcoming . Loved the area lots to do , the deer and wild life around the cottage made the whole week magic. One down side was the road works going on form the monday to friday caused a few long waits on the single track to the cottage .Apart from that a lovely relaxing holiday.
    Mr Lloyd - February 2013
We had a wonderful week at Ardechive Cottage, it is a fabulous property, beautifully furnished with wonderful attention to detail and everything needed to relax in the stunning peaceful surroundings on the banks of Loch Arkaig. We had a week of blue skies and fantastic weather and we enjoyed the remoteness and beauty and being able to sit and watch the Deer only feet away from the cottage was perfect. We can't wait to come back to Ardechive Cottage, in fact we didn't want to leave at the end of our week!!
    Mrs Mellor - October 2012
The house was extremely well equipped for our stay and maintained to a very high standard. The fresh flowers, pint of milk and gorgeous shortbread biscuits were a lovely welcomed, homely touch!! We felt that the lack of mobile signal should be mentioned in the description however - this has been the first property we have rented so far with no signal however the wifi and landline should also be mentioned in the property details as these were very useful and a good alternative. The Loch view from the house enabled some excellent photography with many mirror images resulting from the lack of breeze and sunny weather we were blessed with. We had a superb break and climbed our first Munro which was an exhilarating experience.
    Mr Rands - June 2012
A beautiful cottage set just a stones throw from the banks of Loch Arkaig with a sumptuous interior. The classic interior spaces make you feel truly at home either baking in the kitchen or relaxing by the fire. All you have to do is look out the window and see rare birds, butterflies and the local deer feeding less than 50 feet away. With a wealth of activities in the surrounding towns, glens and mountains there is never a lack of things to do for all ages. We enjoyed an incredible 4 days there and are already looking forward to our next trip, highly recommended.
    Mr Adams - May 2012
Superb, well appointed cottage. Great setting, remote, loch side setting which is very peaceful. Everything we needed dn more. Owners have put a lot of time and thought into the dvlopment.
    Dr Edwards - October 2011
please be aware that Loch Arkaig can burst its bank and this is something that you should be prepared for i.e. provisions. The design and layout of the property have been given a lot of thought, and make this an ideal family property offering peace and quiet both inside and out.
    Mrs Vickers - September 2011
What a fantastic part of the world with the most amazing front garden. The pond is in fact a Loch. The cottage in fantastically furnished with everything you will need. The best cottage holiday we have had in Scotland and we have been holidaying there for 20 years now.
    Mr Tizzard - July 2011
A great find, furnished & equipped to the hieghtest of standards - probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in. Ideally suited for family multiple activities (waterborne, Nevis Range, Munros, local walks) and a tranquil recharge.
    Mr Willis - April 2011
