Description

Perhaps the most striking feature about Auchenhew House is the fantastic cliff top location and the glorious views across the sea to the Antrim coast, Mulls of Kintyre and Galloway. Inside, this beautiful traditional holiday house, built in 1887, takes advantage of those views with a large dining kitchen where French doors open on to the terrace and garden high above the sea.

Inside, the house is very well furnished and equipped making it a perfect spot for self catering family holidays. The large kitchen/dining room is spacious and bright, perfect for family gatherings at the end of the day. The garden has large lawns, patio area, BBQs and furniture – perfect for watching the sea and enjoying a meal outside in the warm weather.

To the rear of the house are two additional holiday cottages – both have their own entrances and access to the gardens and can be offered with Auchenhew house to create a very spacious holiday house for 16. This is a delightful house where you are sure of your privacy in the extensive garden and yet in a superb location less than a mile from the sandy Kildonan beach and the local hotel.

Arran is such a lovely island and an excellent holiday destination - go there and you will absorb the sense of what makes it special and Auchenhew is the ideal place to do it with its truly breathtaking sea views.

There are two further properties also available individually or together – Pladda and Ailsa.

Spacious, amazing views, just everything we could have wanted!
    Mrs Yates - December 2017
Lovely house with plenty of room for up to 10 people. The house took a while to warm up (winter stay with no previous guests) but was cosy once we got it warm. Safe place for children to run about in and handy having 2 living rooms. Only complaint was that there was no fuel for the fire...but we managed to get some the next day (let guests know to bring coal / wood) Plenty of towels and bedding provided.
    Mrs Wilkinson - February 2014
Had a great time staying in this large farmhouse with our 8 kids. The house is a great size with fab views and a lovely big kitchen great for family get togethers however the 2 other cottages are right on your doorstep and privacy was an issue. The gardens are not private as noted in the listing as all 3 house can use the beautiful large lawned area which is the main view from the house which meant constantly having the feeling that someone was watching you through the window and are not enclosed so our 2 year old could easily get onto the main road. Few problems with appliances that the wonderful caretaker sorted immediately for us. Gardens are used by all dogs staying which was an issue as our son is terrified of dogs and we continued finding dog poo on the grass after our kids had trod in it! House decor could do with updating. Some of these issues put into doubt the chance of us returning.
    Mrs Gibson - July 2013
We had a wonderful time at Auchenhew house - the views are fantastic and the kids loved the big garden (football pitch!) out the back. The accommodation is spacious and well-equipped. Our only complaints were that the decor is a little outdated and tired, and the storage heaters the same. It was cold when we first arrived but, to be fair, it was the week after Arran lost all electricity so that may be the reason. A couple of days in, after we'd whacked them all up to maximum we were fine. A few more logs for the wood burner would also have helped. If the owners could redecorate this would definitely be a 5-star property and as it was we were comfortable enough and loved the location - fantastic views and easy access to the whole of the island. Wonderful.
    Mrs Barnden - March 2013
We rented the house with its two attached cottages for a 'special' family holiday. The house was spacious, with wonderful views, with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. It was a shame that one of the ovens in the range cooker was not working, nor the tumble drier when we arrived, though the people responsible did their best to get these fixed. We had a splendid holiday!
