Badnabay Cottage near Scourie in Sutherland is a delightful self catering holiday cottage set in the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Highlands. This holiday accommodation sits in a wonderful location close to the shore and on the other side, a tumbling burn and the surrounding hills all lying within the North West Highland Geopark. The property provides comfortable accommodation and benefits from an open fire in the sitting room, delightful to return to after an active day outdoors.

There is an extensive variety of outdoor pursuits available in the area, particularly fishing. On Loch More and Loch Stack, fishing for brown trout, sea trout and salmon can be arranged as well as brown trout on estate hill lochs. Bird watching enthusiasts will be delighted by Handa Island located close to Scourie which is approximately 6 miles from this country cottage. There is also great opportunity for hill walking and mountain biking with a number of mountains located on the estate itself. Guests are, of course, asked to co-operate with the estate during the stalking period, commencing at the start of August. From Kinlochbervie, sea angling may also be possible and there are wonderful beaches in the vicinity of the holiday cottage just waiting to be explored.

    Badnabay Cottage reviews
Second time that I have been to Badnabay Cottage and I have booked again for two weeks next year. The estate staff can't do enough for you and they are just brilliant.
    Mr Taylor-reid - April 2019
Nice cottage in a fabulous location. Good food at Kylescu, Scourie and Kinlochbervie. Seafood restaurant at Tarbet looks nice too but not open till Easter. Great walks and bike rides nearby.
    Dr Berrington - April 2019
Absolute tremendous cottage and location for me. I have already rebooked and I am really looking forward to my next holiday early next year.
    Mr Taylor-reid - September 2018
We are a family of four adults and we had a fantastic stay in Badnabay Cottage. It is extremely comfortable, clean, cosy and very well furnished. The cottage is supplied with everything needed for a great holiday, very home from home. The central heating worked very very well and soon warmed the cottage in the morning and evening when we needed a bit of warmth. The shower over the bath was the best shower we have ever come across in a holiday cottage. The utility room is a bonus when we arrived back from a day's walking sometimes with wet coats and boots, (somewhere to leave them to dry off.) If I had any suggestions they would only be, maybe a hairdryer and a couple more trays for the oven as we cooked every evening and it was quite difficult to find enough to oven bake our food on. There is a lovely large flatscreen television (we did bring our own DVD recorder). Excellent Wifi for a remote area. A payphone is supplied as there is no mobile phone signal. The cottage is in an outstanding area for scenery, within the North Highland Geopark, which we found very interesting. and we enjoyed some late evening walks from the cottage. Outstanding paradise beaches to visit in the area, we thoroughly enjoyed the 4.5 mile walk to Sandwood Bay. Other walks were to the Bone Caves and the walk around Handa Island, (sad though that the Puffins had already flown). Cape Wrath is well worth the visit, such fun and the Golden Eagle Zip Wire near Durness is a must. A visit to the Secret Garden Tearoom (Assynt Aromas), The Rock Shop, Cocoa Mountain and the Craft Village is also worth the stop on your holiday touring. A warm welcome by everyone. We were very sad to leave such a peaceful and beautiful area and will be definately returning to North West Scotland. Thank you Badnabay Cottage you were great!
    Mr Smith - August 2018
    Lovely cottage in wonderful setting.
    Mr Dickinson - March 2018
A beautifully presented lodge situated in amazing location. The property was warm and cosy, very welcoming. Our dog was a bit confused by the red deer coming so close and wanted to chase the free range chickens It was the perfect end to our holiday
Mr And Mrs Collins - October 2017
The cottage was lovely & suited us perfectly with loads of space. The kitchen & utility facilities are excellent and just what you need for a Highland holiday with plenty of freezer space to stock your favourite foods. The parking is off the road & secure. Went on some fabulous walks all within easy hour or so drive - Scourie Bay & Headland, Sandwood bay, Smoo Cave & headland, Faraid Head, plus several walks around Durness & Lochinver. Petrol station in Scourie gave excellent fishing advice & sold licences plus flies et al. The area offers great trout & sea fishing opportunities. We'll definitely be coming back to the cottage & the highlands as we still have lots more we want to explore.
Mr And Mrs Newton - July 2017
Badnabay is glorious in its isolation - with great neighbours as well! Arkle, Foinaven and Ben Stack are on the doorstep in this simply enchanting corner of the world. House is clean, well kept with everything you need for a comfortable stay, dog friendly - bring your own dvd player if you want to watch them. If you are interested in WiFi, which I can't imagine why you would be coming up here, it works pretty well for somewhere so remote. Red deer, pine martens and all sorts running around in the pretty garden with the constant sound of the burn running alongside is lovely. It's a five-mille drive to the shop at Scourie, the pub/hotel there is good and Handa Island reserve is nearer. An excellent base for exploring Caithness and Sutherland - approximately two hours in the car from Inverness, one hour from Ullapool which is where the supermarket is, so stock up! Gorgeous location, great facilities, we shall certainly be coming back.
    Mr Lennon - July 2017
What a wonderful place! Badnabay cottage is in the middle of nowhere, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Highlands. Deer, Golden Eagles and Barn Owls are your nearest neighbours (as well as the head keeper of the estate and a lovely lady next door). The cottage is well appointed with a phenomenonal shower - perfect for refreshing after a day on the hill, and a warm fire in the living room in front of which one must read, drink whisky and play cards. We will be back!
    Mr Evans - December 2016
We had a great couple of days here. The cottage had everything we needed. The location was great and the scenery roundabout was breathtaking! We would definitely return. Also, my son is a wheelchair user so although it's not classed as an accessible cottage due to one big step at the utility room, the rest of the house was on one level.
    Mrs Ritchie - November 2016
Good sized bedrooms, kitchen ok, generally quite well equipped, one or two lights not working. Good ramp to back door for disabled access but bath side to high to allow access to shower. Plenty warm enough with central heating, comfortable furniture in sitting room but no coffee table to put drinks on so had to use ironing board. Great views of Arkle , Foinavon and Ben Stack from the windows. Good location for plenty of hill walks and close to stunning coastline.
    Mr Shepherd - October 2016
TRANSLATION: We only put 4 stars because of the midges! Otherwise this rental is perfect for 5. We were surprised not to be welcomed and to have to collect the key in a small safe near the door but everything went well, we do not have this habit in France. The area is magical, fantastic landscapes, hinds went down the hill at night, children were delighted and we saw dolphins on the road to Ulapool. We recommend visiting the island of Handa if you like birds and the walk to Sandwood bay maybe a little bit long with young children (14km go / retout) but frankly we arrive at the end on a Beach paradise !!!!
    Mr Benoit - August 2016
Comfortable and well equipped . clean and well maintained. we got what we expected and were impressed that the broadband worked as well as it did in such an isolated location.
    Mr King - August 2016
If you are looking for a beautiful break away from it all, Badnabay is perfect.
    Ms John - May 2016
A delightful cottage with excellent facilities and beautifully presented.
    Mr Jackson - June 2014
The bathroom basin is far too small to be practical, especially for a man trying to shave! Two of the good restaurant have closed this year, but still a lovely area
    Mrs Godwin - June 2014
    An excellent place to stay
    Mrs Gough - May 2014
All the facilities needed for a walking/outdoor holiday ; a most friendly neighbour, who also looks after the cottage with the able support of the Reay Estate office .
    Mr Jones - April 2012
The cottage was comfortable and reasonably well equipped. The views were fantastic on clear days.
Mr And Mrs Kelly - August 2010
