This wonderful 18th century family home has beautiful views from every side, and a sense of timeless peace looking across the rolling fields and hills of Dumfries and Galloway. The peace and beauty makes it hard to believe that this lovely self-catering holiday house is so perfectly placed to enjoy all this area has to offer, with the attractive town of Castle Douglas and the fishing port of Kirkcudbright within easy driving distance and the beaches of the Solway Coast nearby. The area offers much to see and do, with golf, riding, fishing, historical sites, bird watching, sailing, walking and fantastic mountain bike trails all nearby.

Bellrigg is a wonderfully welcoming house, with bright spacious rooms and decorated to a very high standard. The bright sitting room is particularly attractive with its windows on 3 sides, antiques and even a Grand Piano as well as a welcoming open fire. Outside, with a burn running by, there is a hard tennis court and, if the weather is less kind, then take advantage of the Games room converted from the old hayloft and stables where you can play billiards, darts or table tennis. This is a friendly and welcoming holiday house with great charm and character that will make for a perfect relaxed but great quality holiday in the beautiful area of Dumfries and Galloway.

House - comfortable and functional with lots of space. Games room and tennis court were great additions for all weather entertainment. Kitchen never failed on us for group eating requirements. A little dated in the decorating department - perhaps just the bedrooms could be updated? Area - very rural and quiet. 30 mins to the heart of Galloway Forest and about the same to the coast to provide great walking and cycling. Castle Douglas 10 minutes in car for shopping. Places visited - Cally at Gatehouse of Fleet, cycled the old railway from Mossdale to Big Water of Fleet viaduct and back, cream of Galloway for the kids, red kite trail, galloway activity centre for water slide and climbing and a meal at Mr Pooks were all worthwhile.

The house was really wonderful. The advance arrangements were really easy with Linda and the directions were excellent and the house was easy to find. When we arrived the place was all warmed up and there was even a fire going. There was plenty of space for everyone and a huge stack of firewood to see us through the week and the house was really quiet. There was also lots to do in the area - we went to Threave Castle and nature reserve, pottered around Sandyhills beach, did a walk at Auchencairn, saw deer while off-road biking and even managed some star gazing in the dark sky park - it's a great area with loads to do - would definitely recommend it.

This house was everything we needed for a week long stay with ages ranging from 2-70+ There were 11 of us and he house was big enough to accomondate all of us and a dog. Rooms were spacious and comfortable, sitting room had enough seating for everyone as did the dining room and kitchen. The garden was a great size for the kids to play football and tennis (in the tennis court) etc and the barn/games room was an added bonus both kids and adults alike. The housekeeper was lovely and there to meet us when we arrived and was on hand should we need anything explaining throughout our stay. A very homely feeling house that we all thoroughly enjoyed and would look to bookin again should we choose that area again.

Our family was meeting up in the Dumfries/Galloway area of Scotland for a week. We chose Bellrigg for our home-base as it was centrally located and large enough for all of us to gather for a week. The home was perfect for our needs -- spacious, private, well-appointed and ... comfortable! If you are looking for sleek and stuffy this is not the place for you. Rather, we were able to connect with family and friends with a glass of sherry next to the fire place (yes, even in July's cooler evenings) and enjoy the lovely views and ambience. There are neighboring cows and wildlife which were fun to observe for us "city folk" from the US. The tennis court was great and the kitchen was tremendous -- well appointed with plenty of pans, dishes, cutlery, glassware, etc. Linda, our contact host, was very responsive to any and all questions we had. If you are looking for a comfortable country home that has it's own elegant and well-loved charm, then Bellrigg would be a perfect choice.

Bellrigg is an excellent house for our family get together. It's comfortable, warm and there's plenty to do within the area. At the house there is an excellent tennis court and barn with snooker table, table tennis table and darts. The grounds are safe for small children. Good shops, cafés and activity centres in and near Castle Douglas.
    Mrs Logie - April 2014
This was a charming house which welcomed us and we felt very at home there. Mrs Gordon made us feel very welcomed. The grounds and views were beautiful, the tennis court a great success and the games room provided an escape from the small children. There was plenty to do in the area, castles to visit, swimming pools, and adventure parks for the children. Designs Gallery in Castle Douglas is a great place to have a coffee or light lunch and browse round the gifts and pictures. Some of our party went to the Laurie Arms, Haugh of Urr and had a very good meal with excellent service. Broughton House in Kirkcudbright is a delightful National Trust property with art works by Hornel one of the Glasgow Boys and a charming garden.
    Mrs Logie - April 2013
We loved the comfortable house- it was very homely and well equipped. Lovely bedrooms. The tennis courts and games room helped to make the holiday- good for teens and adults with excess energy. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen reading, painting and hanging out. House is a good base for activties- we enjoyed mountian biking, rock climbing, fishing, running, walking, visiting art exhibitions and book shops- something for everyone!
    Mrs Holland-smith - July 2012
Met expectations and therefore our needs for a family holiday - i.e. children, parents and grandchildren.Spacious, comfortable amnd Bellrigg felt like a lived-in family house. Mrs. Gordon was very helpful.

We had a lovely week in October at Bellrigg. We were a party of eight with an age range of 12-78. The older members found the house comfortable warm and very well appointed. The younger member loved the WiFi, ipod docks, games room and tennis court. The house is well located to be within easy reach of Castle Douglas, Kikcudbright, Kippford and many more places so sightseeing is easy. I strongly suspect that we will return. Only reason this is not a 5 star review is that some of the furnishings and bathrooms are a little dated. Not a major concern for us.
    Mr Stirling - October 2011
This was a superb property for a three generation reunion. It was well equipped and the added bonus of superb tennis court, billiard and games room was the icing on the cake. The actual house really did feel like home from home
    Mrs Lawrie - May 2011
We had an excellent time. Bellrigg is a fantastic place; it offers something for everyone. It is comfortable and a great location to unwind. Although it is deep in the countryside it is still close enough to all the usual requirements of a village close by.
    Mr Napper - April 2011
Our second stay at Bellrigg as a family, and every bit as good as the first. If you are seeking a quiet rural break, but with plenty to do both on the doorstep and also in the immediate area, then Bellrigg will be ideally suited. The tennis court and games room saw heavy use, but favourable weather saw us spend most of our time outdoors nearby - cycling at Kirroughtree and Ae forests, walking the coast path from Rockcliffe to Kippford, visiting Threave Gardens were all well received. We would undoubtedly return again for more of the same.
