Description

The large holiday house of Biallid is situated on the fringe of Newtonmore in Strathspey, an area renowned for its beauty. Tracing its roots back to the 15th Century, the property offers the best of old and new. This self catering holiday accommodation has been tastefully extended and refurbished to create a welcoming property to return to after a day out. There are open fires in two of the public rooms which further contribute to the cosy feel of this large house.

There are various rural pursuits on offer in the area surrounding this traditional lodge, such as shooting. Indeed, included in the rent price is 1.5 miles of trout fishing on a bank of the River Calder and 2.5 miles of trout and salmon fishing on a bank of the River Spey. Riding lessons can also be arranged at the neighbouring riding school. All in all, Biallid is an ideal holiday property in a spectacular area of Scotland for sporting enthusiasts or simply those who enjoy the great outdoors.

    Biallid House reviews
    The house is great for a family gathering. We had 14 staying .It has plenty space if you want to be on your own, or space where you can all sit around and play games. Kitchen a good size with plenty of pots pans etc. Bedrooms are clean and decent size but there is only two showers. The place is rather tired ,paint falling off walls , windows wont open,cracked plates in kithchen but it certainly is a place where you can feel relaxed and not be frightened about where you sit or where the dogs go. The view outside from the front is gorgeous. Great gardens(which needed a lawnmower). It was just a pity that you have no garden furniture to sit on. At the back of the house there are several other small cottages all occupied. You have a stables next door which is great for the kids to watch and unfortunately also a repair garage which means cars are coming and going all the time plus a bit of noise . You can walk from the house into town in 10 minutes and most attractions are only 30 minutes away by car. There are walks of varying difficulty from the house and fishing is available on the Spey which is 15 minutes walk. We were blessed with the weather and did not spend much time inside or had need to have heating on. If you are not bothered about luxuries and want a place to chill and have a good time ,try it.

    Enjoyed our holiday. Was the best location in the middle of Scotland highlands. There was coop nearby and fuel station. Lockness was just 1 hour drive. Ideal cottage for relaxing and exploring Scotland. Would love to go back.

    Our group of 13 adults and 4 children, all under 10, thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Biallid. The house is convienently located just outside Newtonmore which has a wealth of local cafes, pubs and supermarkets which were even open on New Year's Day. The Garden Cafe was especially good with freshly baked goodies and very friendly and attentive staff, we will be stopping there when passing in future. other nearby attractions include Kingussie, great shinty match on 1st January, Aviemore for some wet weather things to do, great local walks and more challenging hikes in the area if required. We also made use of the stables next door to Biallid for both some adult rides and first time walks for our youngsters. The house itself was great, nicely warm once we had the fires going and heating on, there had not been anyone in over christmas so it did take a couple of days to warm up but a plentiful supply of logs (all free) meant we could all sit very comfortably in the house. The extra space of having a second sitting room in the front of the house and back "snug" room meant our group could read, do jigsaws, chat, watch tv (tv a bit small for the room) without feeling cramped in any way. The kitchen was good with an AGA and electric hob, with a dining table that could easily seat our whole adult group which made the evening meal a real pleasure and not a squash. We did have a problem with one of the mattresses which has been quickly rectified, the heating system did need bleeding while we were there and the fridges I understand have now been replaced as they were a little old. We have booked to go back which I think says it all about this lovely family house.
