Recently modernised by its new owner; this gem of a holiday house on the shores of Loch Gairloch in one of the prettiest villages on the west coast. The cottage is simple and comfortable. A small garden overlooks the bay where you can enjoy a quiet drink and possibly catch sight of the inquisitive seals and otters.

Badachro is one of Scotland's prettiest villages with its scenic bay with moored yachts. It is also a marvellous place for children, big and small, to explore and there is everything from golf, fishing and boating to superb walking and some of the best beaches in Scotland nearby. Blacksmith's Cottage reviews
Well-equipped spacious cottage in tranquil setting. Didn't like the living room seating and the "garden" is not user-friendly, otherwise excellent.
    Mrs Bottomley - June 2019
The cottage was exactly what we were looking for. It was very comfortable and the bed and shower were fabulous. The views over the loch were superb and we could sit and watch the wildlife until late as the days were so long. The weather was not wonderful but we made the best of it and had the warm cottage to come back to when we soaked through! We had a brilliant walk up An Teallach which was the highlight of the holiday and would recommend the walk to anyone considering climbing some Munros.
    Ms Williams - June 2019
Lovely cosy cottage which was welcome as we didn’t have the best weather. It has everything you need and a problem with a tap was sorted quickly. We enjoyed two excellent meals at the inn.
    Mr Sapsford - May 2019
We enjoyed a very pleasant week at Blacksmith cottage in Badachro - we found the cottage very serviceable - clean and tidy - the location was ideal for us. The weather was tremendous and we enjoyed exploring the local area - the village has an excellent pub restaurant and we had three meal there - sitting on their decking looking at the boats on the loch was super. I played Gairloch golf club (which is a bit confusing) and went whale watching from the harbour. This was a super place to visit in Wester Ross.
    Mr Cox - May 2019
Contact was easy if there were any queries and quick responses from owner. Cottage was immaculately clean and everything provided. Ideal for 2 people or small family. Area was although fairly remote ...lots in the area to do, walks, pub only short walk away, boating facilities and nearby places of interest.
    Mrs Richardson - April 2019
The cottage is nicely located in a little village with views out over the water. The cottage has all you could want in it with regards to bedding, extra bedding for those cold Scottish nights, a full equipped kitchen and comfy sitting room with DVD's and books available. There is a lovely Inn in the village with really friendly locals. Stock up at the supermarket when you first get there as it's a 3 hour round trip but there is a corner store in the next village. A great cottage for a quiet get away from it all holiday. The owner of the cottage was really helpful during our stay as well.
    Miss Roberts - October 2018
Great cottage in a beautiful setting and just a few minutes from an excellent pub. The cottage is warm, comfortable and well-equipped, and you can watch otters from the window!
    Dr Goodenough - September 2018
Bright light and airy feeling cottage, overlooking Badachro Bay, with parking opposite. Going in the front door the staircase is in front of you with the kitchen diner to the right and sitting room to the left. Under the stairs was the " utility room " .The kitchen diner and the small half open plan passage linked together. The bed rooms were bright and airy with front windows and velux's in the roof. The bed in the master was one of the best beds we've had in a holiday cottage. We found that downstairs always felt cold even though the sun was often focusing through the windows - we had the heating on sometimes but it made the house stuffy and airless. We were out and about most days just going in any direction, there were places we'd been to before inc a bed n breakfast opposite the cottage about 20years ago We followed the road to the right to Torridon and followed the road ' to the end of the road" literally on a roller coaster single track road that we thought was " the road to nowhere " near the middle of the small village at the end of the road was a brilliant pub/ cafe/ retauraunt!! The pub is called " oyster catcher"in Gaelic. We were in luck and there were a couple of tables to choose from and enjoyed a gorgeous 2 course meal which being coeliac the food was all cooked as though " gluten free" A must is the drive via Shieldig to the road across the Applecross Peninsular - we found out that the road goes past the Applecross Pub and goes on for several miles which is very picturesque. We've been over Applecross several times Prior. A trip to Ullapool was scenic but we were disappointed in Ullapool since we'd last been 20+ years ago. We enjoyed the return trip using the road down to Garde from Ulapool. A drive which is a must is the road through Strath just turn left at the Heritage Museum and follow" you're nose" this single track road gives great views over the coast and across to the mountains on Sky and at some points The Apple Cross Penninsular - this road is not marked as no through road but you come to and end at Reed Point Lighthouse where there is a turning place to turn round. We saw an eagle flying low just out of Strath, a pinemarten ran across the road near the village in Badachro saw plenty of herons in the bay and seals near the Shieldig hotel in the bay. Many deer generally all over plus more eagles near Sheildig village near Torridon.
    Mr Stephenson - May 2018
The house itself was fine for what we wanted and the location is quiet with a lovely view. The property is right next to a road so you occasionally have to be careful of some vehicles that speed past, although this is not the property's fault! However on arrival we found that (1) it had not been properly cleaned, meaning that we had to spend time cleaning before we could properly move in (2) Some of the crockery was chipped and cracked and should be replaced (3) the microwave has a damaged lining so it should also be replaced. These issues were reported and we did receive an explanatory response, however we still feel that the issues should have been addressed before we arrived for our much-needed holiday.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your review. As was explained by personal email there was work done on the chimney in the week before this booking which unfortunately left the entire house covered in soot. In our efforts to ensure all the soot was removed before your stay a couple of other areas that would normally be checked on every changeover were overlooked. Your email was discussed with my housekeeper and the areas which you highlighted have now been dealt with. As I pointed out in my email to you, the visitor book contains many comments about how clean the house is and the high standard of the fittings, so this slight drop in our standards on this occasion was a temporary blip."
    Mr Allen - April 2018
This was a great cottage in a lovely location, the views from each window are amazing. Cottage is well looked after and very comfortable. A great place for our family to relax and enjoy the holidays.
    Mrs Gould - March 2018
Had a fantastic stay in Blacksmiths cottage. Warm, cosy and everything there that was needed for a fab new year !!!!
    Mr Centa - December 2017
Lovely place! Short walk to the local hostelry. Roaring log fire. Good and well equipped kitchen. Excellent amenities in nearby Gairloch.
    Mr Jenkinson - December 2017
Spent an enjoyable afternoon watching the seals in the bay from the cottage windows. Handy for the local inn. Cottage was clean and tidy. Good touring location.
    Mr Thomson - September 2017
We'd been to Gairloch many years ago, although never to Badachro, where Blacksmith's Cottage is located. The setting is beautiful looking out over the bay at Badachro, sheep wandering past a couple of times, and no street lights - a true get-away-from-it-all setting. That said the Badachro Inn, a five minute stroll along the road, has fantastic food and a great atmosphere. The outdoor seating/eating area looks directly on to the bay with the small boats moored, and Gairloch in the distance. We'd highly recommend this cottage and location - as long as you were looking to switch off and really relax. Redpoint Beach is further along the same road (actually at the end of the road) and is well worth the 15/20 minutes drive.
    Mr Byers - August 2017
Blacksmith's Cottage was a fantastic base for us during our holiday to Gairloch and Badachro. Everything you could want from a holiday cottage. Plenty of storage downstairs for coats and walking boots, fully equipped kitchen with a gorgeous solid wood table and comfortable (faux?) leather chairs. Used the wood-burning stove a couple of nights as it was quite chilly which made the living room so cosy and homely. Very comfortable beds and fantastic shower. To me the only thing lacking for me was a tumble dryer. With 2 adventurous children and a week of muddy adventures, I had to do a lot of laundry and found it very difficult to get clothes dry but they are so costly to run, so I understand why there isn't one there. Oh, and getting a Tesco delivery was a godsend given the lack of large supermarkets!
Mr And Mrs Christie - July 2017
A beautiful home from home with fabulous views over the loch that continually changes with the tides. Loads of wildlife to see locally, great seafood, stunning scenery and beaches all within walking/ driving distance.
    Mrs Johnson - June 2017
We had a fantastic time at this idyllic spot..... The cottage was maintained to a very high standard.. It was very clean and comfortable.... Particularly the beds... We were impressed with the blackout shutters and blinds as we were there at midsummer and certainly needed them.... There is no private garden and we did a wee bit of weeding in the outdoor space which does give beautiful views across the bay.. The wildlife performed admirably outside our windows, particularly the resident and roaming cattle....... And both sea and garden birds... The Badachro Inn was lovely and we recommend the wee shop latitude 57 craft centre for locally made pottery, artwork, gifts and scented wonders.... Unlike the National Trust shop at Inverewe gardens... looking a little bit jaded we thought.... The gardens however were a wonder and blissfully sunny....the walled garden was spectacular with many varieties of scented roses and herbs... We have already booked to return in 8 weeks...!!!!!!
    Ms Allan - June 2017
The Blacksmiths Cottage is situated in a lovely position on the banks of Loch Gairloch - idyllic. The cottage has every facility required for a relaxing break. Everything was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The walk in shower is just like we have at home. Our only problem was if you could call it that is that we did not like the spiral staircase as we live in a bungalow and are not now used to stairs! We also were not too happy parking the car in an area which we considered was a "passing place". I am sure it was quite safe but we would have preferred a better parking place. I would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage to my friends if they wish to have a "get away from it all" break. We would also recommend for a exceptionally good meal the Myrtle Bank Hotel in Gairloch. Very pleasant staff and would compliment the chef. We would also recommend a lovely cafe at Upper Loch Torridon. Again very pleasant staff and exceptional food.
Owners Response: "Thank you for leaving this positive review of the cottage and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Just two points for clarification: the staircase is not a spiral staircase, as can clearly be seen in the pictures. It is straight in the main, with a short 3-step bend at the top and bottom corners. Sorry to be pedantic about your description but I did not want this comment to discourage potential visitors who might not cope with a genuine spiral staircase. The parking space outside the cottage is clearly signposted as a parking place, and not as a passing place. It is designated parking for Blacksmith's Cottage and the cottage next door, and is in no way intended to be, or signposted as, a passing place. It is perfectly acceptable and safe to park there."
    Mrs Johnstone - June 2017

It is furnished with love and we have felt here very well .The view to the Bay was magnifithent .We have visit the Mountains and the lochs arroud Gailoch . It was very amazing hollydays
    Mr Formolo - May 2017
Blacksmith's Cottage was absolutely perfect. Cosy, comfortable and clean. Extremely well equipped and with views over the wonderful bay of Badachro; it's 5 minutes walk to Badachro Inn which nestles against the loch. Food is very good here, as is the whisky! The beds were extremely comfortable and a great shower! And the wifi worked well, even in the bedrooms. Can't recommend Blacksmith's Cottage highly enough.
    Mrs Brunning - May 2017
We loved this little cottage right by the sea in beautiful Wester Ross. We never tired of waking up each morning to the stunning view across Badachro Bat to Dry Island and watching the little fishing boat go out. Such stunning scenery everywhere in one of the most colourful autumns for years. The cottage was just right for us and a problem that we had with the fridge was sorted out quickly and efficiently - a new one was delivered and fitted as soon as practicable. It was generally well equipped with a few notable omissions. In the kitchen it would have been useful to have a bread bin and a tray and the lack of a shaver point in the bathroom was awkward too. We enjoyed visits in the village to the little craft shop Altitude 57 and Badachro Inn. However, we found the food better at the Old Inn in Gairloch. It's definitely worth driving on to the end of the road to Red Point. Two beautiful beaches here. On a wet day we drove to Ullapool -stunning drive even on a wet day. We loved the peat stove and found the cottage really cosy and warm. This is definitely somewhere we would book again and would recommend to others.
    Ms Burn - October 2016
I booked this break as an 80th Birthday present for my English Aunt. The weather was great and the view from the cottage was stunning. The property was spotlessly clean and well equipped with the exception of towels which was detailed in the website but unfortunately I did not read. The Badachro Inn came to or aid and provided us with towels for the duration of stay. A big thank you to them. We spent our time relaxing at the cottage and visited Inverewe Gardens, well worth a visit and stopped for lunch at the Perfumery Studio on Loch Ewe, an extremely pretty spot. Would not hesitate to recommend visiting the area and would definitely recommend staying in Badachro at the Blacksmiths Cottage. Remember and take Towels!!!
    Ms Main - October 2016
The cottage is nicely appointed and equipped, and very comfortable. The views across the bay are dramatic and ever changing with the tides and the weather.
    Ms Coy - September 2016
We had a great week staying in Blacksmith's Cottage, a real home from home. The cottage was well equipped to a high standard and was well maintained and clean. Badachro is a lovely little village and the Badachro Inn is welcoming, serving good beer and food.
    Mrs Swanborough - September 2016
Cottage very clean , comfortable and well equipped. Village and view from cottage stunning. Locals very friendly.Badachro Inn within walking distance, food excellent, very friendly staff to humans and dogs. Recommend the round trip hike to Fairy Lochs. Saw two golden eagles near Red Point. Would come again. Would have been rated higher but the garden let it down. The ground very stoney and the furniture very rusty. Wood at the back needs removed. At the moment it is not very child friendly. Would recommend it.
    Ms Hewitson - June 2016
Very tasteful - like our home. EVERYTHING had a high quality. I don't know ... should I give six stars to the shower ? To the rocking chair ? To the beds and linnen ?? It was a pleasure to look around inside and of course outside as well. We had not the best weather conditions but it didn't matter. We had nice wet walks and a sun-rain-hail-walk and enjoyed the tea afterwards, we enjoyed the shortbread, the peat-fire, our homecooked food and also the fine food of Badachro Inn.
    Mrs Redenz - May 2016
