Set within a working farm in rural Aberdeenshire, Brae Cottage is a cosy property that is ideal for your family getaway. Having been completely renovated to modern standards, the cottage is now a delightful retreat for all to enjoy. The open plan layout of the kitchen/diner/lounge provides a sociable space for the family to gather in. Cosy up with a glass of wine and enjoy the warmth of the beautiful open fire, which is sure to be exactly what you need after a busy day of exploring. The kitchen is well equipped and contains all of the modern appliances. Each of the bedrooms is bright and spacious, with comfortable beds and the added little luxury of TV’s in every one, so the kids won’t be fighting over the remote!

The conservatory to the side of the house is definitely one of the best features of Brae Cottage: sit back and relax whilst you take in the views of the surrounding hillside down into the village of Methlick. There is an unused road that runs past the cottage which takes you straight into the village, so make sure you take a stroll down here during your stay. The village is host to a hotel/pub that has a great lounge restaurant serving high quality, great value meals as well as a local supermarket for those who don't want to venture into the busier towns nearby.

Famous for its numerous castles, Aberdeenshire is the perfect location for a self catering holiday. Tolquhoun and Fyvie Castles are situated nearby, providing you with a great start to making your way around the Castle Trail. Forvie Sands Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to go for a walk, and make sure you stop off at Haddo House and Country Park for a bite to eat during your stay. Methlick is less than an hour’s drive away from the bustling city of Aberdeen, where there are an abundance of activities for both adults and children to enjoy, as well as plenty of shops and restaurants to visit.

    Brae Cottage reviews
The cottage is in a quiet idyllic rural setting away from any noise and traffic. The owners live close by and are really friendly and helpful. The cottage itself sleeps up to 6 comfortably and is the nicest cottage we have stayed in so far and cannot fault anything with our stay.
    Mr Markland - August 2018
Well equipped cottage with lots of extras in a great location off the beaten track. Hot tub only really for use in the summer as there isn't a roof or shelter. Owners quite close to the cottage good when you have an emergency, but can feel a bit uncomfortable sometimes.
Owners Response: "I'm glad you found the cottage well equipped and in a great location for your holiday. It's a pity you didn't like the al fresco hot tub- we really enjoy a crisp clear winter's evening in the tub, watching the moon and stars- we decided it would be a shame to cover it. I'm pleased we were able to assist with your emergency- we always aim to be supportive when required, without intruding on your privacy. Many thanks, your feedback is always of interest to us. Best wishes"
    Mrs Coppin - December 2017
We enjoyed our stay very much at Brae Cottage. The accommodation was very good and there was everything we could need. We were one of the first to use the hot tub and it was a lovely thing to do and with the company of the Highland Cow over the fence! Delightful we loved seeing her every day x hosts were very friendly and looked after us very well. The whole process from booking to our stay was excellent and an easy process. Highly recommend a stay at Brae Cottage.
Owners Response: "“It is really useful to have your feedback,I’m pleased you had a good stay with us and would recommend Brae Cottage to others. The hot tub has been definitely been a hit with our guests this year - and the highland cattle always manage to charm! Best wishes Sarah”"
    Mrs Webster - October 2017
This peaceful, relaxing cottage was perfect for our needs. It was cool enough one night to have a fire in the fireplace and when it was too rainy outside we had the lovely sunroom to relax in. It was well supplied for cooking meals in however we didn't attempt to do that. We ventured out most days and found Formartines a delightful stop for local cheeses, breads, etc. for our picnics. They make great coffee for the road! Not to exclude the very good pub in the town of Methlick.
Owners Response: ""Great to know the area and the cottage provided so well for your needs. This review is a joy to read- it's always good to know the places and activities our guests have enjoyed. Thank you for sharing your experience of Brae Cottage. Best wishes"
    Mr Enns - August 2017
The cottage was exactly as portrayed in the images. Lovely welcome by Sarah who showed us how to work the hot tub which we used every day. The views from the cottage are lovely with a short 15 minutes walk into the Village of Methlick. The kids loved having their own TV's in the bedrooms and the wifi worked very well. If you want a cottage to in a rural location this is ideal. The location is very central for that area of Scotland and can highly recommend Cruden Bay and Peterhead Prison. Sarah even lent us some beach towels for our day at the beach. The local store in Methlick is very convenient and you have supermarkets in Ellon and Inverurie. Didn't use the log fire although I can imagine in Winter it would be lovely. I would recommend this cottage and would certainly return in the future. Thank you Sarah for a very enjoyable week and giving us the opportunity to recharge our batteries
Owners Response: "Thankyou for taking the time to post this review. I am delighted you had such a great stay with us. It's really helpful to other travellers too in deciding where to trust their holiday plans. Particularly pleased you enjoyed the hot tub as it is our latest addition to the offering. Haste ye back! Regards"
    Mr Gray - July 2017
We have stayed many times in the Brae Cottage. It is well set up with three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, wood-burning fireplace, wonderful sun room. But the real attraction is the incredible view down over the Ythan Valley into and past Methlick. There are Highland Cows ("coos") the are in the nearby field. The hosts Sarah and Neil Purdie are most pleasant and accommodating. The high-speed internet works well. A very peaceful place to stay.
Owners Response: "We are very happy you have, once again, enjoyed your stay with us. We value your feedback and hope to see you back again soon. Sarah"
