Brewlands Lodge, holiday home of both US Presidents Bush, 90 minutes from Edinburgh’s world heritage sites, on a Highland Estate on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park with lochs and mountains yet with lots of golf courses nearby, is an elegant and welcoming, very special large Scottish holiday house set amongst 120 acres of beautiful gardens and grounds. It is available for a fully, partially or self-catered holiday to any level. It is ideal for family gatherings or group bookings and is often rented for corporate hospitality. The 8 bedrooms (6 bathrooms) sleep 16 guests in tremendous comfort. There are not only numerous activities and places to see both on and off the estate but because we try to do everything to make your holiday a happy one, we can provide a full concierge service.

This imposing house, on the site of a tranquil 13th Century monastic settlement, with a fabulous ancient garden, a revolving summerhouse, a hot tub and a tennis court, is the place to find peace and tranquility for your holiday in the Scottish Highlands, yet is only 35 minutes from fantastic cashmere, kilt and gourmet food shopping and 90 minutes from Edinburgh. Close to the Queen’s and Queen Mother’s Balmoral and Glamis Castles, there is outstanding wildlife viewing, fishing, clay pigeon and other shooting and lots of other activities, along with whisky distillery tours and artisan food producers. Championship golf courses such as St Andrews and Gleneagles are within easy reach.

Brewlands Lodge is beautifully furnished and comes with a Claridges trained housekeeper for 2 hours every day, enabling you to relax and enjoy being looked after. Our clients love the combination of great comfort, peace, the wealth of wildlife and wild flowers, the full concierge service and the huge variety of activities available both on and off the Estate. Why not play tennis or croquet followed by the hot tub and a massage while our chef makes you a delicious dinner from our exceptional local produce?

One of Brewlands Lodge’s great advantages is its central position within Scotland, enjoying the best of Highland scenery yet with 14 golf courses (including St Andrews), a 2 star Michelin restaurant, fantastic shopping, the Queen’s Highland home and some of Scotland’s best distilleries within 75 minutes drive and the World Heritage Site of Edinburgh, with its world renowned Edinburgh International Festival, the National Galleries of Scotland and other fascinating sights, within 90 minutes.

In spring, the lengthening days are filled with birdsong. Thousands of daffodils are followed by native bluebells, wild violets and hillsides covered with foxgloves. Cast your line for the spring run of salmon. In May and June the rhododendrons are in full bloom and we experience glorious lingering twilights when it is perfectly possible to read a newspaper at 11 pm. These long days of sun are ideal conditions for the locally grown strawberries and raspberries. Summer turns the heather hills purple; get up at dawn to stalk or let us arrange a picnic complete with tartan rugs overlooking “Pol Gorm” (in Gaelic “the water which reflects the sky”). During the autumn and winter, our shooting is at its very best. In January and February, the most extensive skiing in Scotland is available in the mountains nearby.

Brewlands Lodge is beautifully furnished and comes with housekeeping, enabling you to relax and enjoy being looked after. The little extras of fluffy towels, electric blankets, extra long beds, power showers and floor to ceiling heated towel rails show the level of attention to personal comfort. This is one of the finest large holiday houses in Scotland where you could spend an idyllic time. With so many things to do on the Estate, many people don’t leave it at all during their holiday!

Drawing room with open fire, tartan library, dining room, large and well equipped kitchen, utility/laundry room, cloakroom with WC. Door to games room and hot tub changing room and drying room.

First floor:

Master bedroom king size with en-suite bathroom comprising power shower and separate bath. Second king size bedroom with en-suite bathroom comprising power shower and separate bath, 2 twin/zip link bedrooms (en-suite), 2 double bedroom, bathroom.

Second floor:

1 twin/zip link bedrooms (en-suite), 1 twin.

Please note:

  • A separate two bedroom en-suite cottage can be taken with the main lodge by arrangement and extra charge.
  • 2 hours of domestic help can be provided 6 days per week.
  • Tennis court is available for use for free by arrangement.
  • We provide: bathrobes, soap, tea towels, oven gloves, cling film, apron, foil, bin bags, loo rolls, washing up liquid and essential cleaning materials and other helpful touches to start your holiday off.
  • Landline telephone and gas useage is calculated by meter reading.
  • Private hot tub is available by arrangement.
  • Two well behaved dog permitted at £25 – sorry, absolutely no dogs are allowed in the house.
  • The house is rented out year round. Rental periods are Friday to Friday; arrival 4 pm and departure at 10 am.
  • Short breaks are welcome. As this property has its own short break rules/rents please check short break rents with the Cottages and Castles sales team by calling 01738 451 610.
  • The house may be taken self-catered, partially or fully catered. We can supply extra staff as required. This service is provided by the owner by arrangement and extra charge.
  • Good Housekeeping Deposit - £500. This is payable on arrival to the owner and will be released within 14 days subject to any claim.

    Booked this lovely holiday home for 11 female school friends to celebrate our 60th year. So glad we made Brewlands lodge our choice for the occasion. We had lots of fun and laughter and enjoyed Simon’s excellent catering for 2 evenings - very good value. The hot tub was well used and we had 2 ‘outings’, one evening to the Angus Hotel in Blairgowrie (30 mins) where we enjoyed a Michael Buble tribute night and the other to a Gin tasting at Persie Distillery (15 mins). Simon arranged a local minibus company for both! A very enjoyable weekend was had by all.

    The house is lovely however needs to be updated. The showers did not work properly in all rooms and the furniture in the living rooms is extremely worn and uncomfortable. Should all be replaced. However, Simon was fantastic. He cooked 4 dinners for us and 7 breakfasts. The food was delicious, he was charming and helpful, he made the week for us.

    Well a bit bigger than my actual home but our party of 10 adults and 5 children just slotted into the house as if was an old friend. Very comfortable,spacious, well appointed and equipped with wellies for the inevitable damp day (or more). Upon arrival the children were rampaging safely throughout exploring the various levels and staircases( 3-10 year olds).Other than corn on the cob holders ( which maybe we didn't find) there was everything we needed. The unknown quantity was the 'house keeper'. Simon popped in every day and our original idea of contracting out 2 evening meals to him stretched very quickly to 4 . We all thought they were excellent with first rate ingredients and great value.We actually only catered ourselves for one evening, with the local hostelry, Glenisla Hotel satisfying our other requirements. Simon also organised together with Craig the game keeper, estate related activities. As for recreation our party indulged themselves with cycling on hired bikes( quiet roads and interesting scenery), golfers( 4 golf mornings), Walkers, shoppers,kids horse riding, fly fishing, novice clay pigeon shooting,pheasant feeding, running, site seeing( Glamis and Blair castle about 40 minutes away; Balmoral say 50 minutes.) and all in just 7 days and variable weather. I could ramble on but suffice it to say with everything totalled ( house/gas/estate events/ Simon's cooking and Scottish entertainment ) ,with a full house this was great value
