Description

This lovely old Georgian house is a particularly fine example of a Scottish manse at a time when the local Minister was a person of great importance in the community. The rooms are gracious with many beautiful original features from fireplaces and shutters to cornicing and panelling, it has a very special feel. Beautifully renovated with fine walnut floors and some unusual but stylish features. The house is both welcoming and extremely comfortable with underfloor heating throughout the whole ground floor. It is perfect for a large family or group of friends who enjoy attractive surroundings.

The kitchen is charming with its big friendly table, beautiful copper worktops and an Aga. The owner has thoughtfully added an electric Aga module with gas range. Guest can avail themselves of the bright kitchen for meals or for occasions use the more formal dining room. There are two large sitting rooms with comfy seating, a mix of antiques and pleasing artwork. A dog grate in the drawing room and a wood burning stove in the sitting room are the icing on this cake.

A traditional feel has been created in the bedrooms using handsome antique and vintage pieces, in addition to lovely linens thus creating a welcoming refuge at the end of your day. The bathrooms retain the same character, with claw foot cast iron baths in both bathrooms where a long soak can be enjoyed. There is a second floor to this house – slightly more modern in appearance with large Velux windows allowing you to see the beautiful views. This floor alongside the masters bedroom has its own ensuite shower room.

Outside there is a magnificent walled garden where vegetables and fruit thrive and children and dogs can enjoy themselves in safety. To the front there is a large lawned area with the river just beyond where you can fish for trout (a guide can be arranged). There is garden furniture, a BBQ and plenty of outside storage (by arrangement) for sporting groups of all kinds.

This is a quiet and beautiful part of Scotland, very rural and best for those who want some time and space to themselves away from a busy life. The area has a national park, fishing, golf, water sports, bird watching, riding and walking, and much more. The recent TV programme “The Forest" was filmed in this lovely area. The local village is a few minutes walk away where there is a small village shop for basics and be sure to try the one night a week pop up bistro!

    Cairnsmore House reviews
    The house and grounds are beautiful, our family made full use of the large kitchen and utility room. The dining room and front lounge (with piano) were lovely but not entirely user friendly. We were keen to recycle and attempted to follow the very specific instructions but were unable to completely as the outside bins were full on arrival. We had a lovely weekend and would recommend Cairnsmore house to others.
