This carefully designed, wheelchair accessible holiday home is set in an elevated position on Skye, where it enjoys breath-taking views out across the water.

Located close to the most southerly point of the Isle of Skye, this charming cottage sleeps six guests across three rooms. There are walks straight from the doorstep, and with a wood burner in the lounge/diner, and TV, DVD, and Wi-Fi to keep you entertained, the property is perfect for experiencing the peace and tranquility of a rural retreat to the south of Skye.

The ground floor is reached via three steps up to the front door, or ramp access to the back door. Inside, the spacious triple-aspect lounge/diner is the heart of the cottage, with a wood burner to warm your evenings and patio doors at one end for increased natural light and hillside views. Prepare dinner in the well-equipped and homely kitchen – which includes a small breakfast table perfect for light bites and quick snacks – and sit down together at the dining table. When it’s time to call it a night, snuggle down in one of the bright and colourful bedrooms. The first of these, a double, is on the ground floor, along with a bathroom with walk-in shower and bath.

Up the wooden staircase are the remaining two bedrooms, both of which have sloping ceilings as they are built into the roof space. Skylight windows on the landing, in the bedrooms, and in the shower room make the first floor a bright and welcoming space with lovely views, where you can be sure of a quiet night’s sleep.

The front of the property features a raised decked area straight from the front door. There is a range of seating, and it’s an idyllic spot for al fresco brunch or evening drinks looking out to sea. Immediately around the house it is gravelled, and as well as a grassy space there is a shallow stream that runs through the garden, so do make sure young children are supervised.

This starkly beautiful area of Scotland, with its sparse population and few settlements, makes for wonderful walking. Just down the road from the property, less than a mile away, is the Aird Old Church Gallery. After admiring the art, follow the trail until you reach a tiny harbour, and from there you can continue on to the lighthouse for breathtaking sea views at The Point of Sleat. Another popular walk is to join a trail at Kinloch Forest (14 miles) which takes you along an old drovers' road to an abandoned village. Also great for a stroll is Rubha Shleite (2 miles), a beautiful sandy beach in a sheltered bay where you can settle for the afternoon with a picnic, and further afield the dramatic ruins of Dunscaith Castle (13.5 miles) perched above the sea. Along the coast you'll find quaint villages, including Ardvasar (3.5 miles) and Armadale (4 miles), where you can stock up on supplies from the local shop, and sit down for a cup of tea and a piece of cake in a cafe. Armadale also has its fair share of visitor attractions. At the end of the pier is the Isle of Skye Leather company, which sells handmade items and creates bespoke orders, and if you fancy going back in time and travelling in style, there are regular carriage rides leaving from the village. Armadale Castle, Gardens and Museum (5 miles) has 40 acres to explore, as well as exhibitions on the history of the Isles, and two gift shops.

The cottage is in a fantastic location with breathtaking views of the rough bounds of Knoydart. The property was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for self-catering. The wood burner was great also and we had uninterrupted access to the internet. The online information about the holiday home says that it is dog friendly and that dogs are allowed to stay in the house, hence the main reason for me booking the house. I was saddened and somewhat annoyed to see a notice in the top step of the stairs reading NO DOGS. Not exactly dog friendly one might rightly surmise. The fact that dogs are only Read moreallowed in part of the property should be clearly stated in the online information. Otherwise a lovely holiday property in a great location. Hide
