Craigbank is happily situated in a small cul-de-sac near the village of Lamlash on the island of Arran, making it an ideal holiday home for families and couples alike as all the amenities are close by. With both a front and back garden on a riverside location, Craigbank can offer relaxed evenings after busy days exploring this beautiful island. On most days the back garden has many 'special' visitors; an array of birds and red squirrels, just enchanting. Lamlash has a wide range of activities and with a good hotel, pubs and shops, as well as an excellent beach for beach combing, it is a great base for a holiday. Take a trip to the Holy Isle across the bay, which is a Buddhist retreat, or enjoy a game of golf at the very good local course - all without leaving the village.

Craigbank is a very attractive, modern home with a comfortable interior offering the facilities required for a relaxing self catering holiday in Scotland. It is very well equipped and provides a clean, fresh and contemporary interior. The ground floor consists of a cosy lounge with dining area and a fully fitted kitchen making it ideal for your self catering holiday in Arran. There is also a double bedroom (this bedroom has bunks with a double bed on the bottom and a single bed on the top)  and a large bathroom with bath/shower on the ground floor, making this holiday home ideal for two couples. Hidden upstairs in the loft is the grand bedroom, boasting a king size bed and a sky-lit ceiling which allows plenty of light, making this room feel very bright and airy.

We had no problems with the property at all. The oven seemed to work perfectly well as did all the kitchen equipment. There were a couple of cold days and nights but the heaters worked well and kept us warm. So no issues with the house at all just a couple of suggestions neither of which are complaints. Firstly whilst there are actually enough beds to sleep 5 in my view whilst the property is ideal for 2 if there were 4 or more adults it would be a bit of a squash. Maybe something on these lines could be made clear in the literature. Secondly it would add to the health and safety aspects if there were a rubber bath mat - but myself and my wife are both in our 70's so perhaps it's an age thing. All in all a very pleasant property clean and tidy and obviously well looked after. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and whilst we managed a few decent walks(The object of the holiday) it was a bit disappointing - but no reflection on the property obviously.

    Lovely peaceful setting, friendly locals.
    Miss Duncanson - June 2019
Craigbank was very nice but a bit ‘fussy’ too many teddies and ornaments dotted about the cottage, there seemed to be something on every surface and no space on the worktops in the kitchen. The garden was a delight with a lovely sun trap patio. The heating took a bit of working out and the oven was a nightmare, the dials just couldn’t be read so we had no idea what temperature we were using. There was a washing machine but nothing to wash with (tablets/liquid) there was plenty of other cleaning materials, but hey ho we were on holiday! The cottage is in a very good position and we enjoyed the visits from the red squirrel in the mornings.
    Mr Easen - September 2018
Nice little house, close to all amenities. Owners obviously take great pride in showing it off, but it’s so full of all sorts of ornamental things like artificial flowers, teddy bears and pots of pot pourri that it is hard to find space to put your own things down on any surfaces. Some more practical touches such as somewhere to hang clothes in the bathroom or adding the much requested bedroom blind would be more beneficial to guests. Some homely touches are very welcome but sometimes less is more, as it would allow the house to breathe and make it seem more spacious. This is more of a suggestion than a criticism as I would recommend the house to others as somewhere comfortable to stay.
    Mrs Johnston - August 2018
Lovely stay at this cottage, owners met us there and explained what we needed to know, only two downsides which I’ve noticed on previous feedback has been mentioned numerous times. The skylight in the top bedroom needs a blind or something, daylight at 5am when you’re on holiday is not welcome. The dining table, what a palaver getting it out if you need to use it when you can’t sit in the garden because it’s raining, you literally have to move furniture around to get near it, if some of the furniture was removed permanently from the living room the table could stay out, I’m sure people staying at the property would not miss sideboards and nests of tables etc and would prefer to be able to sit at a table with no hassle. Beds really comfy, shower spot on, plenty of utensils in kitchen, all in all a great stay!
    Mrs Thorne - August 2018
Craigbank was very comfortable and clean with everything guests would require for a stay. The outdoor space is great with lots of seating which was useful when we had other family members visiting. The master bedroom is a great space and one could sit there to read in comfort. Lamlash is a great place for a holiday, especially for children. We spent a lot of time crab fishing from the pier. Cordon beach which is very nearby gets the evening sun and is a lovely place for a stroll.
    Mrs Moyes - July 2018
Lovely property in Lamlash with everything you need to get away from day to day life. Very comfortable and deceptively spacious. Walkable to local shops, pubs, restaurants and sea front. Tucked away in a small cul-de-sac with friendly locals. Ideal garden for kids (that are safe near running stream and small drop) to explore nature on the doorstep, and a peaceful place to relax after a hard day in the hills.
    Mr Angus - May 2018
Lovely cottage with everything we required included. Great base for exploring Arran. Lovely riverside setting and a visit from red squirrel and Henry the Heron every day was a joy. Good meals at PHT and Bay Hotel. Also enjoyed an Indian takeaway from next to Police station. Bakery products from Wooleys next door hard to resist.Bus services meant we could walk to Brodick or Whiting Bay and get the bus back. Would definitely recommend.
    Mrs Greenhorn - May 2018
We liked Craigbank very much. Nice house, lovely master bedroom and a nice garden. It took a little while before we understood how to cook. The house is nicely decorated and there are a lot of things in the house that make you feel at home and that help you around on Arran. Lamlash is a nice village, supermarket is near (10 min walk). And Arran is beautiful. We had a lovely week. Thanks Carol and thanks Arran!
    Mrs Reker - April 2018
A cosy and comfortable house with everything we needed near shops, hotels and local walks. The red squirrel in the garden was a treat too. Thanks to owner for her good communication.
    Mrs Simpson - November 2017
The location of property was great, with shops, restaurants, bakery, parks & beach all close by. The property was ok but we expected a slightly larger house and of slightly higher standard after reading description and seeing photos online. For example in the photos it shows a table out and set but when we arrived it's clear there isn't really space for a table although a fold down table and chairs is available. The website also suggested there is an enclosed garden which strictly speaking is true but the garden isn't safe for young children with the burn open at the back with quite a high drop down into it. It was clear there was some miscomunication between owner and cottages and castles as when I spoke to the owner she made it very clear she would rather meet occupiers of her house around 3ish but our ferry didn't arrive until after 4 as the cottages and castles email said we couldn't get into property until after 4pm. The owner also arrived at the house unannounced at 8.20am on leaving day and although was very polite and told us not to rush we felt we needed to leave as soon as possible as she was sitting in garden waiting. While talking to owner on phone before we arrived she had agreed to leave us the ladder for top bunk and details of bin days. Neither of these things were there when we arrived and the top bunk had no duvet or pillow. I also had to wash all of the towels and dish towels as they smelled dank from presumably sitting in washing machine too long. The oven needs replaced as is stated in visitor book over and over again. In the end we had a great holiday as the weather was great and we were outside most of the time. The table and chairs outside were great and that's where we ate most of our meals. Overall great location but not as child friendly or as nice as it looks on website.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at Craigbank, we value all feedback regardless of whether this be criticism or genuine critique. With regards to the first point relating to the size of the property, Craigbank would be described as medium sized semi-detached home. As per the description on Cottages and Castles, the house has a double bedroom downstairs & a far larger bedroom on the first floor featuring a king size bed & a sofa. The lounge/dining area as it is so described on Craigbank’s page is of a comfortable size. The photographs showing the set table positions demonstrate what can be achieved if desired by guests, but the table is folded away for new arrivals to allow for more space. With regards to the ‘standard’ of the house, I can confirm Craigbank was given a full spring clean at the beginning of this year & IS as shown in the photographs on Cottages and Castles. In response to the comments specifically relating to the garden, & this is an important point, children should always be supervised by a responsible adult where water is nearby. However we have many, mostly families, frequent Craigbank with returning customers therein, who rave about the garden & the river at the rear. The garden is enclosed with a gate & a very stiff lock which most adults would struggle with. In relation to the early arrival on leaving day, I would like to state that a such a scenario is NOT the norm. Unfortunately the owner had no communication from the guest prior to arrival & had to contact Cottages & Castles for their details to discuss entry. At this time the guest could not confirm the leaving day/time for return of the keys but advised they would let the owner know. This did not happen & there was no response to two phone calls & messages left with the guest. The owner was unfortunately left with no alternative but to arrive early to facilitate the return of the keys for the next guest arriving later that day. The ladder for the bunkbeds were placed in the cupboard, as it was not thought this was required. The house is advertised for 4 & it was assumed the small children would sleep in the double part of the bed. The guest had advised that they would be bringing a carrycot for the 3rd & youngest child but this did not happen & could have been catered for had the owner been made aware. Information on bin collection was provided to the guest. With regards to the linen which is provided I can confirm that this is always washed, checked & checked again to make sure it smells fresh, as we pride ourselves on these issues. That is why we will triple check this from now on. In response to the comment on the oven this was recently professionally cleaned & is in perfect working order. There is an issue with regard to the numbers displayed for the heat setting, however instructions have been provided & we are looking into remedial action to avoid any confusion, so we take this point on board. We are sorry to hear that you experienced some issues during your stay at Craigbank however we believe that with better communication these could have been avoided. With regards to what we can do better we certainly will, but conversely our numerous 5 star reviews both on this site & the glowing feedback within our visitors book speak volumes for all Craigbank has to offer our guests."
    Mrs Mcneill - July 2017
We found the Cottage to be the ideal base for all activities.
    Mr Spence - June 2017
The cottage is ideal as a base to explore Arran. We particularly liked the boardwalk walk which takes you all the way from Lamlash to Whiting Bay.
    Mr Cameron - May 2017
Met personally by the owners which was a nice touch. Well appointed and clearly a lot of attention to detail throughout. Kids loved playing in the river at the back garden and meeting the 'pet' heron every day! Drift Inn was spot on for food and good for kids.
    Dr Irons - April 2015
One bathroom with no other toilet is a wee drawback. feeding the friendly heron was fun. Good food in Glenisle Hotel but would not rush back to Lamlash Bay. Short walk to bakers and only a bit further to the minimart.
    Dr Doull - June 2014
Great and relaxing holiday at Craigbank once again. That is the second visit we have made to the house. Handy for all ammenities including the wee pub at the Lamlash Hotel!
    Mr Brady - August 2013
