In view of it's proximity to the water, Dail Na Mara is considered unsuitable for children under 12.

Dail Na Mara is sure to captivate anyone lucky enough to stay in this fabulous seaside retreat. From the moment you step inside you will be drawn to the astounding sea view from the large windows and, thanks to the cleverly designed open plan living area, you will always be able to enjoy this thrilling west coast setting with passing boats and fabulous wildlife.

For over a century, Kilbowie House has proudly stood by Oban’s shoreline keeping watch over the ever-changing moods of the sea. This impressive red stone Scottish Baronial mansion has been skilfully converted into stylish contemporary apartments while managing to retain many of its original period features. Dail Na Mara, meaning The Sea Meadow, enjoys the most enviable position on the raised ground floor looking directly over the water with breath-taking views to the island of Kerrera. A truly romantic and peaceful setting.

This luxury holiday home has been designed and furnished to the highest standard with every detail thoughtfully put together. The open plan living room with its high ceiling, beautiful decorative cornicing and rich oak floor is a perfect holiday space. The gleaming white state-of-the art kitchen will delight cooks while the large, comfy seating around the ornate Victorian fireplace and grand mantlepiece is perfect for relaxing in. The highlight of this wonderfully sociable room must be the dining area in the corner turret giving panoramic westerly views across the Sound of Kerrera and Oban Bay - what a fabulous setting for memorable dinners while watching the sun set or for enjoying holiday board-games.

The two exceptional double bedrooms, made up with fine linen and soft pillows, are sure to give a good night's sleep. The main bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower and double basins while the second bedroom with access to shower room with wc, is built on the site of the former orangery, has the joy of floor to ceiling picture windows, so you can gaze out to sea while in bed. French doors lead out to a small, private terraced garden with seating allowing you to make the most of this magical waterfront location, and steps follow down to the communal garden shielded by a castellated stone sea wall running along the water’s edge.

Dail Na Mara is also perfect for those who enjoy a bit of town life with excellent restaurants, shops and local attractions all within half an hour’s walking distance. During the summer Oban comes alive with a host of festivals and ceilidhs, attracting bagpipers, highland dancers, traditional musicians and singers from all over the world. There are daily boat trips to the surrounding islands, where seals, porpoise and dolphins are often spotted. Oban is also known as the “Gateway to the Isles” with ferries to Mull and the inner herbridean islands. A passenger ferry from the nearby jetty will take you over to the small car-free island of Kerrera where you can walk the island circuit with its own ruined castle and summer-time tearoom.

All on one level: Large open-plan living space consisting of kitchen, sitting area with open fire and turreted dining area overlooking sea. Master kingsize bedroom with dressing area & ensuite shower room (rain shower, WC & his/hers WHB). Kingsize “orangery” bedroom with floor to ceiling windows & patio doors leading private garden. Shower room, separate WC & WHB.

Outside: Small private garden with seating. Private parking bay.

    Dail Na Mara reviews
Stunning Location. Stunning house! I cannot recommend Dail na Mara enough. Upscale apartment with all the amenities, beautifully decorated with awesome views! The weather was hot and sunny during our stay and we were outside every day. The garden is small and with only the steps or a bench to sit on, it would have been nice to have a couple of loungers to relax in but other than that everything was perfect1 Looking forward to returning some day!
Owners Response: "Hello Aileen and thank you for your lovely review! It sounds as if the weather was kind to you: sun loungers required in Oban in April??? Fantastic!!! This is a good idea: it's just storage that's the problem - I'll get "on the case" and have them in place for your next visit. Haste ye back!! In the meantime all good wishes to you both, Sandra"
    Mrs Griffin - April 2019
Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Views were stunning. Cottage very cozy & comfortable. Well equipped. Comfortable beds, best nights sleep we had when away from home. No hesitation to recommend.
Owners Response: "Thank you Mrs Armstrong for your kind remarks. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and found Dail na Mara to be comfortable and cosy!"
    Mrs Armstrong - March 2019
Stunning apartment with beautiful views, Oban is a lovely town surrounded by outstanding countryside and enjoyed some great drives out. Will definitely be back.
Owners Response: "Mr Walker, I'm delighted that you enjoyed your visit to Dail na mara and beyond! Argyll is indeed a lovely county! Many thanks indeed for your review and complimentary remarks and "haste ye back"!! Best wishes, Sandra"
    Mr Walker - September 2018
Apartment was very luxurious. Decor and furnishings were excellent. Situation and views were stunning. Only niggle was poor kitchen equipment. Poor selection of pans and cooking pots/dishes and only large pan was not compatible with induction hob. Glasses and mugs were mis-matched and kitchen utensil selection was very limited. A major part of our holiday is cooking and the preparation of special meals. This was made more difficult because of the kitchen equipment available. Other than that, we had a great stay and would certainly return
Owners Response: "Hello Mr Fraser and many thanks for taking the time to review your stay. I'm happy to learn that you found the apartment to be such a luxurious holiday spot. Regarding the kitchen, I have already purchased additional cookware which, coincidentally, is to be delivered this weekend! Your feedback is much appreciated and I will also now review and supplement the utensils. "Mismatched mugs": guilty as charged - that's my style!! I am pleased that you enjoyed your holiday and look forward very much to welcoming you back to Dail na mara. In the meantime, best regards"
    Mr Fraser - September 2018
Lovely location with fantastic views - sea views from every window and great breakfast nook to watch the world and sea traffic go by.
Owners Response: "Thank you Mr Smith - I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Dail na mara and took some time for a bit of "serious relaxation" looking out on the Sound of Kerrera and Bonnie Oban Bay!!"
    Mr Smith - July 2018
The apartment is beautifully appointed with stunning views across to the island of Kerrera. Our favourite bit was the breakfast/ dining area in the turret section. The best view we have ever had with our breakfast. We chose to sleep in the smaller of the two bedrooms so that we could pull back the curtains in the morning for the view. We both felt that this was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed and have already booked up for next year. The owner was very helpful and the bottle of wine we found on arrival was very welcome after a long train journey. The foot ferry to Kerrera is only a mile down the road and well worth a day trip if you don’t mind the two mile walk to the delightful tea room. Also took the car ferry to Mull which is beautiful, and also had a day on the Slate islands which we had never heard of but were fascinating. Eating out in Oban is excellent if you like seafood, but the flat is well equipped if you want to eat in.
Owners Response: "Many thanks indeed for your kind and complimentary remarks! You were our first guests in Dail na mara and I'm so pleased to learn that you found everything to be in order. Delighted to see that you have booked up again for next year: Haste Ye Back!! All the best"
