Sitting peacefully in woodland above the Crinan Canal, Dunamuck Cottage has a magical secluded position in one of Scotland’s most historical landscapes.  Surrounded by glorious scenery at the end of a private track, this charming stone-built holiday cottage offers the chance to enjoy Argyll at its most tranquil and beautiful.

Inside the spacious, double height open plan living room is bright and airy with a cosy wood burning stove and French doors to a decked balcony overlooking a small loch with views across to the village of Cairnbaan.  This makes a lovely setting for evening drinks or alfresco dining after a busy day exploring this wonderful part of Scotland.  The two comfortable twin bedrooms make this an excellent self-catering house for all ages.

A steep path leads from the cottage down to the loch which was once the site of a 19th century slate quarry – slates still remain amongst the grass.  The impressive view from the heather clad hill opposite follows the canal towards the sea and the stone ruins from the worker’s crofts can still be discovered.  Wildlife abounds in this hidden natural landscape with every chance of spotting roe deer, red squirrels, pine marten and many varieties of birds.

Famous for its stunning scenery and dramatic history this area of Argyll offers visitors a great variety of activities and days out.  The surrounding area has numerous hill and forest walks, mountain biking, wildlife and fishing as well as loch cruises, wonderful gardens and ruined castles.  The Crinan Canal has been described as Britain’s most beautiful shortcut and its towpath is perfect for walks and cycling and happy days can be spent on the nearby sandy beach.  Explore the natural beauty of the area with its many birds and local wildlife such as otters, seals, owls, beavers and small red deer.

Visit the amazing prehistoric remains in Kilmartin Glen or the harbour town of Oban where you can catch a ferry to Mull, Iona and the Inner Hebrides.  Travel south to the Mull of Kintyre and enjoy the many deserted sandy beaches or visit the island of Islay, Jura or Gigha.

Charter a boat from Crinan Harbour and set off for a day’s fishing, wildlife watching, island hopping or experience the famous Gulf of Corrievreckan with its whirlpools and standing waves.  You have every chance of spotting eagles, dolphins or whales.

Also available and adjacent is Slate Cottage, which sleeps up to 3 guests.

Large entrance porch, hallway, 3 steps down to open plan living room/kitchen, dining & sitting area with wood-burning stove & doors onto decked balcony overlooking loch. Bathroom with bath, over the bath shower & whb, separate wc & whb. 3 steps up to two twin bedrooms

    Dunamuck Bothy reviews
We have recently returned from a fantastic holiday in Argyll based at Dunamuck Bothy. The property was well located for exploring the local area and beyond - being just over half an hour away from several ferry ports for visiting some of the nearby islands. Inverary Castle was one of our favourite days out and we were very lucky to see the beavers at Knapdale Forest. We also enjoyed our early evening walks from the cottage: exploring the lake, forest and the prehistoric cup and ring site on our doorstep! The accommodation was well laid out and very comfortable. My only complaint was the lack the basic cooking utensils. We do cook when we're away but were perplexed that there was no potato peeler, cheese grater or whisk and the tin opener didn't work - very frustrating!

The cottage was clean, comfortable & surroundings peaceful. However did feel some things could be better as on arrival , we had made purchases of supplies in the village but had to dispose of a couple of frozen items as no ice box or freezer . There was no bedside lamp in one of the bedrooms, one towel for a week rather sparse. No welcome pack , no info on heating, or on machines apart from the cooker instruction stuck on a wall but markings on the hob worn away . Sparse supply of crockery, just 4 settings which meant either dishes in a less than full dishwasher or hand wash despite dishwasher. Road up to the cottage needs repair. Despite this we enjoyed our stay as used the address as a base to travel around the west coast &. Managed to visit some of the islands getting to see lots of wildlife, the puffins, dolphins, red deer & squirrels to name a few. If more attention to detail could be an idealist place to stay especially with the glorious weather we were lucky enough to have during our stay
