East Camghouran is a traditional whitewashed Highland shepherds cottage which has been lovingly recently restored and refurbished, yet retains its original charm.

The accommodation on the ground floor comprises a charming sitting room with open fire linked through to a garden room with patio door and lovely views , a living /dining room with multi- fuel stove, a snug bunk room , newly fitted kitchen and a utility/boot room.

The first floor with coomb ceilings and new Velux windows comprises a double bedroom with king size bed, a twin bedroom and newly fitted bathroom with shower over.

With beautiful wood finishes including hand made doors, together with open fire, multi-fuel stove and storage heaters, this family owned cottage provides a cosy and inviting base from which to explore Highland Perthshire and "Outlander" country.

Visit the adjoining remnant ancient Caledonian Forest at Black Wood of Rannoch, purchase a permit to fish Loch Rannoch or other local lochs, enjoy woodland or hill walks, climb Schiehallion "the Fairy Mountain", cycle round Loch Rannoch, catch a train to Fort William and beyond to the famous West Highland Line from the historic and remote Rannoch Station. Enjoy wonderful stargazing in our "dark sky".

Situated on a working farm, East Camghouran is only 8 miles along the beautiful Loch Rannoch South Shore road from the village of Kinloch Rannoch, with local facilities including shop, café, hotel/pub, doctors surgery and a lovely scenic hill drive over the Schiehallion Road and the famous General Wade's bridge to the pretty town of Aberfeldy on the banks of the River Tay. Here are many amenities including the newly refurbished 1930's cinema "The Birks", a golf club, shopping, The Watermill café and bookshop, restaurants, additional cafés, hotels and pubs, distillery and tourist office.

    We spent a week in this cottage and we were not disappointed. The interior is very well maintained and comfy. When we arrived the heating was on and wood was set by the fireplace. The cottage has several rooms which is excellent for families. The house has no mobile or internet connection which was perfect. We simply enjoyed the magnificent views from the house. Am tempted to book again. Sublime get away from it all.

    Well equipped, though pity water quality as it is even if warning was given. Good views from conservatory. Unusual nowadays not to supply linen and towels as part of service. Biggest bugbear (though little can be done about it other than a be-aware notice) was that the cottage is not designed for someone 6'3" tall - after a week ducking to get under every inside door except one, and showering with knees bent by 3", I felt rather like the Hunchback of Notre Dame!
    Owners Response: "We are sorry to hear of these concerns but hope that otherwise they enjoyed our “ little “ cottage as much as most of our visitors , many of whom are regulars. The water supply comes from the hills of Highland Perthshire and , while it is filtered and treated , is best not used as drinking water as we make clear . This is not uncommon. East Camghouran is a very old shepherd’s cottage and thus the ceiling heights at first floor are typical of many such , but arguably that is part of it’s charm - perhaps not for very tall people. We do on occasion supply linen on request to overseas visitors , but we do make it clear that linen is not normally supplied and this is simply a matter of practicality as regards our housekeeper in such a remote location."

    Fabulous cottage in a wonderful location. Good to get away from technology and real fires keep it cozy. Clean and comfortable. Local cafes either side, providing tasty treats though the shop at Loch Rannoch is expensive so shop before you go!

    A beautifully situated well appointed hideaway. Perfect for an escape from it all. The cottage is well equipped and clean. The fires keep it warm in the evenings and the views from the terrace are simply stunning. Worth coming back to again and again.

    The cottage is an 8 mile drive along the lake from the nearest village - Kinloch Rannoch, which has a very small grocery store. There is a supermarket in Pitlochry, which is a 1 hour drive away. Surrounded by mountains and forests, it is great for hiking. When we went there, it was winter, and the ground was covered in snow. Stunning. There is a conservatory with views across the fields. There are two fire places, which give the cottage a cosy feel. The cottage is spacious and well presented. The owner, Tony, is very friendly. Highly recommended.

    East Camghouran is a lovely cottage set in an idyllic location. The views are spectacular, the peacefulness fabulous. Saw plenty of wildlife. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable. Only observation is that it states it is a double bed, but it appears to be a king size, as the sheet I brought with me didn't fit on the mattress without a fight, so it would be better to make that clear in the particulars.

    We loved our stay- the cottage was beautiful and all the rooms were comfortable and furnished in true Scottish style. Great to have a BBQ too! Views of the lake are spectacular and there are great walks around. Good value for money and highly recommend.

    A beautiful cottage set in a beautiful location. The cottage had everything we needed from a Washing Machine to some Board Games. You cottage makes you feel you are the only one for miles because its so peaceful and tranquill. Highly recommended for a nice quiet getaway with the option of some lovely scenic walks around a stunning location.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
