The second renovation project from the owners of Tangle Tower, Evelix is an old schoolhouse that has been given a new lease of life as a luxurious holiday home. Located in the village Muir of Ord, which is just 13 miles from the Highland capital of Inverness, the property sits by the road with a good acre of beautiful wild garden within the grounds. The school house has been sympathetically restored to retain the character this building once had, with feature pieces including a gorgeous antique double bed and an old wooden school desk. The main living area is open plan, with sage green walls, oak floors and a high ceiling. The dining table is octagonal in shape (another antique!) and comfortably seats 4. There is also the added bonus of a woodburning stove in this room, so cosy up and enjoy a night in front of the fire with your favourite tipple in hand. The master bedroom on the ground floor has been tastefully decorated and furnished to tie in with the rest of the house, and off this room is a modern, ensuite shower room with quirky tartan floor tiles. The bedroom upstairs feels almost regal with royal blues and the antique double bed. Both bedrooms have feature ‘art deco’ fireplaces which add to the charm of this house. Downstairs, the family bathroom is extremely spacious and contains a deep purple freestanding bath as the focal point of the room, as well as a separate shower cubicle. As is the theme throughout the property, there are little finishing touches of items from the past, and in here there is a vintage washboard hanging on the wall. Outside, there is a small patio which is perfect for warm summer evenings, and an unfenced burn that runs through the enclosed garden, so children and pets must be supervised at all times.

The property is located right on the edge of Muir of Ord, and all local amenities are within walking distance (the pub is just a 5 minute walk!). Evelix is a fantastic base from which to explore the Highlands – Inverness, the Black Isle and Achnasheen are all just a short drive away from the property, so there are plenty of places to go during your stay. A visit to Loch Ness should definitely be on the cards too, as well as a day trip further North exploring the likes of Dornoch with its gift shops, golf course and sandy beach.

You can also watch our vlog which shows Evelix in all of its glory over on our Youtube channel.

We were looking for a self-catering cottage west of Inverness and this gem showed up in our search. Beautifully restored, very well equipped, very comfortable. It had everything we could have asked for. Great location because you can easily get to Inverness and the north and to Skye in a day trip.
    Mr Evans - May 2019
Evelix is a beautiful property in a great location. The house is very nicely decorated with nice touches. Wished we could of stayed longer. The cake was delicious and it was lovely to have the essentials already waiting for our arrival. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.
    Mrs Treen - May 2019
Stunning cottage in the most wonderful part of Scotland. Fantastic walking & golfing just perfect for our holiday! Even on our only rainy we were able to walk to the local station and have a day in Inverness!
    Mrs Porter - March 2019
A really lovely place to stay. A great base to visit wonderful places. The house was cosy, romantic and a fantastic base. Visited the mustard seed in Inverness, bad girls bakery and deli on the square, all recommended by cherry which were fantastic. Gorgeous walks. It’s hill had fantastic views. Rosemarkie was breathtaking.
    Mrs Whitehouse - October 2018
Cottage was excellent- very clean and well appointed. Delightfully refurbished. Gardens are great for older kids, as back on to a small woodland area with plenty of fruit trees. Welcome cake and supplies were much appreciated Location is great for getting to all the main places of interest, such as Inverness, Dornoch, Strathpeffer, Beauly, Tain, Nairn. Cromarty
    Mrs Jeffrey - October 2018
Evelix was very nice and decorated to a high standard but would like to suggest a more softer lighting when watching the tv and change the angle of the mirror for exiting the property through the gate. The best breakfast of the few days was at the Muir Hub. The best dinner and service was at the Priory in Beauly. We also visited some nice shops in the area but as we are not shoppers as such we preferred the days we travelled around the area.
    Mrs Clarke - October 2018
We had an amazing stay, Evelix was our perfect home for the week... we did plenty of travelling , coming home to Evelix added class and comfort to our break, we loved our stay.
    Miss Seddon - September 2018
We loved our stay at Evelix and the garden and woods were perfect for the dogs. Rosemarkie beach is beautiful, especially early morning. We didn't do too much exploring as the weather was hot and sunny so we relaxed outside the house to just make the most of it all. It was exactly what we needed.
    Mrs Owens - July 2018
Beautiful property and lovely nice touches such as cake and fresh flowers on arrival
    Mrs Dengler - July 2018
Lovely cottage which is well maintained with everything you require for your stay. Nice touches around the cottage referring to its previous role as a school. Lovely location and Muir if Ord is a nice area in close proximity to Inverness and surrounding areas for any tours, days out or shopping.
    Mr Macdonald - July 2018
This is a beautiful property in an ideal position for exploring the lovely surrounding area. Lots of beautiful beaches, great cycling and lovely walks. The property has been well renovated and there are a lot of nice extras included e.g. homemade cake on arrival! The only reason I haven’t given it 5 stars is that the lack of a freezer of any sort is a real omission as we were out every day and wanting to take a picnic but there was no facility to refreeze ice blocks for this. The only other negative was the lack of a bedside table and any kind of bedside light in the main bedroom and there was nowhere to plug in the thoughtfully provided hairdryer beside a mirror. In every other respect the property is definitely 5 star.
    Mrs Stephen - June 2018
We loved the accommodation and every little thought being taken care of. Comfort and creative design high on the agenda. The area is close to Inverness to research your family tree. We went to Nairn beach and enjoyed a long walk there. Quaint shops and fishermans cottages. Another day we went to Channery point near Rosmarkie and saw 2 pods of dolphins. Remember your camera! Wish we had brought our bicycles as it is a great area for cycling, with many paths. We explored Reelig Glen and one of the oldest trees. Beauly has a fantastic delicatessen and cafe combined. What a gem of a small town. The Black Isle is worth a visit and Evelix too.
    Mr Currie - May 2018
We stayed at Evelix for a few days over Easter and absolutely loved it. The house has been lovingly restored and it was a pleasure to stay in. A cosy peaceful place to relax with nice walks on your doorstep. It was very well equipped and the bedrooms were very comfortable. We loved the décor and kept noticing new things in the house each day! The bathroom/bath is amazing! We explored The Black Isle where there are many nice places to visit and Evelix really did act as the perfect base.
