Hawkshaw provides all the elegance and grace we would expect from a listed Georgian property. Built in the 1830s, this charming self-catering holiday house retains many period features, such as seen in the formal dining room, complemented by the well equipped hand-made oak kitchen. Guests will enjoy the exquisite garden with its well-maintained borders of flowers and shrubs, its lawns, and adding to its charm, a Victorian summerhouse and a spring.

Situated in the centre of Crieff, this holiday accommodation is ideally placed for touring Perthshire and further afield in Scotland. Or alternatively enjoy this beautiful house, browse through the owner’s book collection, enjoy the views across to the Starthearn Hills and simply relax.

For larger parties, up to 12, you can also rent Merlin Cottage, which is next door.

When both cottages are rented together guests can go between the two via an inter connecting door.

    Hawkshaw reviews
    Hawkshaw is a big well equipped house with, an equally big & beautiful garden c/w tree swing, table tennis, footie goals etc which was all great for the kids. The house itself has loads of space, lovely decor, and is very cosy (once our first night heating issue was resolved) & it is certainly a little bit quirky. Willie the contact (& owners father) – was very helpful, knowledgeable and great to have around if needed. he was always available on the end of the phone & very response especially over the heating glitch on first night. Having other neighbours (note the garden is shared) was great and we hardly heard them (apart from when the kids chatted through the locked adjoining door!!!) & all the kids played so well together in the garden. This setup was initially a slight concern (on booking), but turned out not to be an issue. There is loads to do locally – the Macrosty Park is within a few mins walk, Lady Mary Walk (Crieff) & The Hermitage (Dunkeld) – are both lovely walks, the Falls of Dochart (Killin), Perth (for shopping, swimming, cinema etc), Kenmore (kids park etc), Comrie Croft (lovely café) & Auchingarroch Wildlife Park…to name just a ‘few’ things. There are plenty of places to eat nearby – we tried the Central chippy, New China Chinese, Plan B & the Tower pub (twice!) – all good. And Reids Bistro in Perth was great for lunch. There are very few negatives for the property - we had an issue with the heating on the first night (& it was very cold) but it seemed to resolve itself the following morning before the local plumber appeared (great service from Willie even though it was the Easter weekend). We had some difficulty in finding common terrestrial channels on the TV (rather random numbering/system). The twin room opposite the bathroom, would benefit from a seat, possibly beside the window. The twin beds in that room seemed a bit narrow to us, so maybe more suitable for kids, than elderly grandparents as was the case for us?? The kitchen was a bit dark, although one light was out which we forgot to report as faulty, so that would likely help fix that issue quite easily. These are minor grumbles and more a few suggestions to improve things a little. Quite a number of eating places seem to close locally on a Tuesday night??? and we struggled to get a table that night, so maybe best to plan ahead and book if out on a Tuesday. Disappointingly the Crieff Visitors Centre main attraction (glass factory demo) was closed the week we visited (not really advertised too well until there as far as we could see). Overall it's a fabulous property and one that we would highly recommend in a great location/area.

    I am tempted to give "Hawkshaw" 5 stars. It is a beautiful house which is very well appointed. Situated within easy walking distance of Crieff with all its shops and eating places it has so much to offer visitors to this beautiful part of the country. One or two more "occasional" lamps in the public rooms would further enhance the property. A window in the central bedroom wasn't fully closed and I am not tall or strong enough to have risked wrestling with - but we had dry, mild weather so it didn't much matter. I hope to return to the house in 2018 - at least once!

    Great location, easy walk to shops, nice view from house which was very comfortable too. The Quaich restaurant is great, lovely food and very friendly staff. MacRosty park is just along the road and fab whether for children or just for a walk. Would recommend Hawkshaw.

    The house was in one word Fantastic! Very well looked after and super cosy. Everything we needed was there including good weather and amazing views from the bedrooms in particular. Willy who was at this point looking after the Fantastic garden gave my parents advise and directions to one of the most beautiful drives through the highlands ever!

    Hawkshaw is a lovely comfortable and well equipped house in a great location with peaceful surroundings. My family and I had a very enjoyable stay and everyone was kept entertained with everything the house had to offer inside and out. The caretaker Willie was very friendly and helpful and special thanks to his grandson and friend for taking the time to play football with my nephews, who enjoyed the company.

    We felt very comfortable in this house, due to the house, garden, the Gentle landlord. There are nice hikes, a beautiful garden to visit. In Crieff you can go to restaurants, teahouses, and visiting Edinburgh and Glasgow is worth the effort.

    We rented this house and Merlin next door for a large family gathering. The house was fully equipped and a joy to stay in with plenty of space and a lovely dining room. Outside the beautiful gardens provided more seating and came with a BBQ. I fully recommend this house and Merlin next door.

    The house was a home from home, with everything thought of eg washing up liquid, clingfilm, sandwich bags. The gorgeous weather meant we were able to take advantage of the beautiful gardens. The caretaker Willie was on hand and gave us plenty of advice regarding places to visit. Crieff itself has everything you need and the town centre is just a few minutes walk away, including a well-stocked Co-op. Highlight of the town centre shops for me and my daughter was Crystal Universe - a tiny shop selling all manner of crystals, tarot cards and joss-sticks. Glamis Castle, Stirling and Perth are all within an hour's drive, with Loch Lomond Edinburgh and Glasgow just a little further afield. I'd recommend this house without reservation and would definitely book again.

    This property was furnished and equipped to a very high standard. Ideal for large groups when hired with Merlin cottage. Spacious garden with table tennis,football goals and pond was ideal for children. Close to playpark and town centre. would highly recommend.

    Hawkshaw was ideally located to explore Perthshire and the local area around Crieff. Wwe were well looked after by Willie and the house provided all the facilities we required for an enjoyable holiday.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
