Situated near Fochabers in Moray, Heatherlea is a traditional stone built cottage by the mouth of the River Spey. Sleeping 3 plus 1, this cottage is the perfect retreat for a small family who are looking to explore everything Moray has to offer.

Completely renovated from scratch in 2013, Heatherlea has been thoughtfully upgraded with the holiday maker in mind. The cottage is pleasant and welcoming, and is well equipped with everything you will need during your stay. The beautiful slate floor combined with original stone feature walls adds to the traditional feel of this cottage. The wood burning stoves in both the lounge and master bedroom are a charming feature of Heatherlea, making your stay here cosier than you could ever imagine! The fully equipped kitchen is bright and contains all of the modern appliances, and makes the best use of the unusual layout of the original structural walls.

The snug contains a sofa bed, which can be used as additional sleeping area if required, in the dining area. The single bedroom also contains a pull out bed, meaning that the cottage can sleep an additional two people if needs be. Outside, the cottage boasts a large garden with a picnic table, which is an excellent addition for those warm sunny days, as well as for when you fancy doing some al fresco dining in the evening. Overall, this is a delightful little cottage in Moray Speyside that you are sure to enjoy.

Garmouth is a traditional ship building village, located 4 miles from Fochabers. Fochabers is home to the well known Baxters brand, with a fantastic visitor centre and restaurant. The cottage itself is located at the edge of the Spey Bay nature reserve, and Moray is known as 'the dolphin coast', making it the perfect place to see nature in all of its glory. The Scottish Dolphin Centre is a great place to visit, and wildlife such as ospreys, seals and otters are often spotted near the river. Keen walkers and mountain bikers will enjoy the numerous trails in the area, and Gordon Castle with its walled gardens is another fantastic place to enjoy during your stay. For those who enjoy whisky, Heatherlea is situated at the edge of The Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, so explore the distilleries and sample some of these fine drams for yourself. Inverness and Aberdeen are both an hour and a half's drive away from the cottage, so both cities are easily accessible with an abundance of activities for you to enjoy in each.

    Heatherlea Cottage reviews
We stayed at Heatherlea Cottage for a week at the end of August - two adults and two children. We were met by the owner who lives next door who was most welcoming and in particular had left a very generous welcome pack including biscuits, cereals and wine. Heatherlea Cottage is a traditional croft style cottage, single storey with the rooms all in one line. It has been thoroughly modernized throughout and has a particularly smart bathroom shared between the two bedrooms. It retains a very cosy feel - the wood-burning stove in the sitting room was particularly welcome on cooler evenings. The cottage is ideally suited to a couple or small family and is convenient for a number of coastal walks and local attractions. Highly recommended.
    Mr Thomas - August 2017
