Killunaig Church House is set in the most fabulous position overlooking the shores of Loch Scridain with Ben More, Mull’s highest mountain, as a backdrop. Dating from the mid-19th Century, this delightful former Free Church of Scotland has been transformed into a most welcoming and comfortable self-catering holiday house for up to 10 people.

This much-loved Scottish family holiday home is filled with charm and lots of character and the traditional country-living style furnishings add to its homely appeal. The original floor to ceiling arched windows and large glass doorways flood the house with light and offer spectacular views across the dramatic and ever-changing landscape of mountains and sea.

The downstairs open plan living area makes Killunaig Church House a wonderfully sociable self-catering house where friends and family can come together and enjoy relaxed evenings after fun-filled days out and about enjoying all this magical island has to offer. A well-equipped kitchen and large dining table are at one end, while cosy seating set around a wood-burning stove is at the other end. An open wooden staircase leads to the five comfortable bedrooms all of which enjoy glorious views.

The large garden is a lovely spot for sitting out and marvelling at the heavenly scenery and a short stroll down the private drive will take you to the edge of the beautiful and historic Loch Scridain where you can enjoy magnificent views along the Ross of Mull, dreamy sunsets, many lovely walks and amazing wildlife. White tailed Sea Eagles are often spotted overhead as well as Osprey and Oyster Catchers. You may even catch a glimpse of an Otter.

Located a few miles west of the of the small village of Pennyghael on the Ross of Mull, Killunaig Church House is perfected placed for visiting the beautiful Island of Iona and its historic Abbey as well as Staffa and the Treshnish islands. This area has some of the best white sandy beaches on Mull and there are many scenic walks to be discovered. Loch Scridain is ideal for canoeing – boats can be launched from a sheltered shore beneath the house.

    Killunaig Church House reviews
    A great place to get away from it all. Deceptively large, comfortably sleeps 8 but easily sleeps 10. Fabulous views over the Loch. Supplies are a bit of a drive away but we had done a large shop in Oban which has an Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and an M & S. We drove round and saw most of the sights. Highlights were visits to Iona, shopping in Tobermory, Loch Buie and oysters & Guinness on Ulva. Also boat trips to see the wildlife especially the Puffins and porpoises. We also saw and photographed a Sea Eagle twice which made the holiday. We visited Tiroran House Hotel coffee shop, Mull Weavers, The stone circle, Moy castle, Duart Castle and saw so much wildlife including otters, eagles, highland cattle and a variety of other birds including Divers, Guillemots and Oyster Catchers. We were very lucky with the weather which was perfect. No TV reception which was fine but a larger modern TV to watch DVD’s on if the weather is bad would be a good improvement. Another highlight was the fresh fish we bought when we came back from Iona at Fionnphort which made a delicious supper back at Church House. If you want to get away from it all, this property has a real rustic charm.

    The Church House is a lovely place to stay. We were there 3 nights with our 4 kids and had a wonderful time. Thanks to the binocular available for our use in the house we could see the otter in the sea just in front of us in the sea. The place is very quiet as it is 200 metres away from the road. It is a perfect place from which you can go to Iona. We would recommend it especially as it is perfectly equipped, clean and comfortable.

    Holiday Protection Scheme

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
