The Strath Oykel is a wide, green and fertile valley dominating the landscape in this wild but very beautiful part of the Northern Highlands. The famous salmon fishing River Oykel rises in the mountains near Ullapool on the west and drains into the North Sea via the Kyle of Sutherland on the east and is a field away from the house. Langwell Lodge occupies a commanding position and has been totally renovated to provide all the facilities you need for your holiday whilst maintaining the original features, charm and character. A series of halls and staircases guides you through to all parts of the house and a cleverly designed adjoining annex can be used as part of the main accommodation or blocked off for smaller parties.

On the ground floor, accommodation comprises a large traditional dining kitchen leading to a living room with cosy wood burning stove and TV. There is a also a reasonable size scullery with kitchen appliances, American style fridge freezer and worktops. The spacious lounge with open fire and sofas, has large north and east facing windows giving extensive views of the gardens around. There is a games room which can also be used as a further dining room with billiard/dining table seating up to 12. Access can be made to the new 'self contained' wing accessed from the ground floor either by its own front door or through a secret bookcase in the dining/games room. This has another kitchen, dining and living area, twin bedroom with en-suite shower room and a further twin bedroom and bathroom. This accommodation offers independence and privacy for those not wishing to spend much time in the main house. The first floor can be accessed from stairs off the main hall or by a secret bookcase door in the annex contained in the second twin room. All bedrooms are charming and equipped with fine quality beds, furniture and white bed linen. There is a spacious king size room with north and east facing windows overlooking the gardens, making it very bright and airy, which has an en-suite bathroom. There is a double room, two twin rooms and two bathrooms.

Langwell Lodge is situated on a working farm at the end of the farm track adjacent to the farm steading which contains animals and machinery that would be expected from an active farm. Access road is also a farm track and not a tarmac road. The lodge has a large walled private garden and many areas round the house for children to explore and play. There are many walks from the house and a wide range of things to do within a short car drive away.

    Langwell Lodge reviews
This is a magnificent spacious property, with plenty of room for a large group to stay comfortably. You do need to bring all of your food, as the local shop in Rosehall is currently closed, but the hotel in Rosehall does good meals. There are plenty of good walks along the river and up into the hills, and access to the West Coast is easy, including the NW Scotland Geopark. Don’t miss Knockan Crag, and the delightful tearoom at Elphin. We had a brilliant extended family holiday, and thoroughly recommend this property.

Access was a bit of a problem - quite a long drive along an unsurfaced road not mentioned (i think) in the promotional material and which would have put a few minutes on to each day's activities were in not possible to walk to the other side of the river and to park in the car park there. Kitchen well appointed and aga good. Comfortable. Two camp beds (one of which i slept on) not previously mentioned. Good weather for the week. A fair drive out to the west to do some walking but i was aware of this beforehand
Owners Response: "Owner Reply: Thank you so much for your comments particularly about access to the property. As the property is set on a working farm a farm track is generally expected. Many people have stayed in the lodge and as with all Highland tracks, as long as care is taken it is perfectly manageable. We shall ask for the description to be re-visited to ensure that this is included. Very kind regards for a lovely Summer. Cottages & Castles Reply: We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Langwell but sorry to hear that the farm track caused you difficulties. We do in fact state quite clearly that this is a farm track; “Langwell Lodge is situated on a working farm at the end of the farm track adjacent to the farm steading which contains animals and machinery that would be expected from an active farm. Access road also farm track and not a tarmac road” and certainly our local Representative had no problem accessing the house in her own saloon car when she visited the house. Previous tenants and the owners had also managed to drive the track without any problems. However, we appreciate the feedback and will ensure that the existing text on the type of road is also mentioned in the Travel directions issued following booking."
