Description

Perched on the edge of the River Laxford and aptly named Laxford House, this property enjoys truly wonderful views to the west across one of Scotland’s most stunning coastlines.

The house itself is both spacious and well equipped. This self catering holiday accommodation is excellent with six bedrooms, three bathrooms and a separate WC, the property sleeps a maximum of ten. The large kitchen has a Rayburn and an electric cooker which makes catering easier and the two sitting rooms, each with an open fire, means there is plenty of room to sit and relax. The lovely dining room is great for dinner parties and the sun lounge looks out over the river, an ideal place for drinks. The garden area is securely fenced, so safe for children, and the river tumbles along the bottom. Sensational views.

The location alone is hard to beat; coupled with all the fantastic activities close by, this is without a doubt a unique and wonderful holiday location.

    Laxford House reviews
Great place to stay Only problem needs another fridge WiFi if possible Dog hairs on blankets in conservatory
    Mr Cannon - May 2019
Laxford House was spacious, comfortable, and very well equipped, with nice big beds and a wonderful view down the river towards the sea from several rooms. The sun-room was an especially good spot to watch the light fade over the water of an evening. As we had our dog with us, the enclosed garden was very useful, with the added attraction of access to the river, and pleasant walks upstream and downstream nearby. We love this area for its wildness and remoteness and enjoyed revisiting beautiful Sandwood Bay (eight-miles return on foot) and walking along the beach at Balnakiel and through the dunes there to Faraid Head. I also made a return visit to Handa Island with its thousands of breeding birds on the Great Stack, and had the best view of puffins yet! We have eaten at the Kylesku Hotel many times over the years and seen some big changes, but it is still a great place to have lunch or supper, right on the water.
    Mr King - April 2019
Excellent, very comfortable house in lovely setting.
    Mr Macvinish - August 2018
This year we had most of our family join us including our daughter and family from WISCONSIN and our great grand son aged 4 months . All facilities are A1 , we ate in most days and dine out at our favourite restaurant- at Kylesku pier , most variants of fish dishes . There are several wonderful beeches , good walking , close by and Durness is well worth a visit , the house offers excellent nature viewing from the conservatory, deer , many types of birds and seals when the tide is up . Improved mobile phone reception at the house and around is needed plus WIFI in the house !
    Mr Jackson - June 2018
The house is superb and offers spacious accommodation for ten people. All of the bedrooms are excellent, with comfortable beds, high quality bedding, and ample drawer and hanging space for clothing. The lounge and the dining room are well furnished and easily large enough for ten. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped, and there's lots of shelving in two 'sculleries' for storing a week's supply of food. Having a garage is a real bonus for storing bicycles and other bulky outdoor equipment. The immediate location, right beside the River Laxford, with views out to Loch Laxford is perfect, while the surrounding area offers a huge variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. All in all, it is impossible to fault the house, especially as the rental charges are more reasonable than some other properties of this size. We would, however, make two suggestions. One is that it would be helpful if there was a manual with information about the house, such as the workings of any equipment that might need explanation, which days the refuse bins are to be put out for collection, (or an indication that the estate staff will do this , if that is the case), and more detail about about the possibilities for fishing on the estate. The second is that a larger tea pot would make afternoon tea easier for a party of ten! These are in no way criticisms, and we would thoroughly recommend the house to any group.
    Dr Carter - April 2018
Been there with family on a few occasions. Some modernisations have been made but the main drawback is no Wifi and this is essential for younger family members especially as mobile reception very poor. For example we had a big struggle trying to obtain exam results which was stressful. Otherwise we love this house - dishwasher plumbing problems and VERY hot kitchen caused by Rayburn temperature were tackled by helpful pleasant estate staff member quickly but dishwasher problem not fixed (was usable) Some thinner duvets for summer temperatures would help or replacement blanket for use with duvet cover
    Mrs Coote - August 2017
Absolutely brilliant. Great facilities, only flaw is no wi-fi. Great walking area, fabulous beaches, amazing wildlife for watchers and photographers. The Scourie hotel was the best place to eat, it was also the closest. Good service and langoustines.
    Mr Bailey - May 2017
a second visit to Laxford House and even better with the improved kitchen than we remembered. Everything we could need is there; beds are comfortable, bedding and towels good quality and I really covet those curtains. its an excellent property, safe for children and pets and with two river walks on the doorstep and lovely views not sure what more anyone could ask. The standard of housekeeping exceeds that of many self catering properties. Added to that staff at Castles and Cottages are always helpful, informed and so easy to deal with it makes booking a pleasure. although there are just two of us, don't overlook this choice for a small group - the house is large and spacious but manages to be cosy and welcoming at the same time, so not only for large groups. we love it.
Argyll Voluntary Action - November 2016
    Very homely warm and comfortable
    Mr Skelly - December 2015
    Good cottage for us
    Mr Sinclair - July 2015
Despite the wet and windy weather all our family including our youngest daughter and family from Wisconsin all enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of wildlife was seen including three deer walking through the garden into the river one night , lack of mobile phone and WIFI would have been a help.
    Mr Jackson - May 2015
Comfortable, warm and spacious. Enjoyed the house enormously (as well as the break itself). Would recommend - perfect getaway with walks from the door and views. Good quality furnishings, comfy beds (a rare find), and absolutely clean. Only thing couldnt get to work was wifi access.
Argyll Voluntary Action - October 2013
Laxford House was a perfect warm and conmfortable base for our group of hillwalkers, surrounded by hills to climb, and not much else! Obviously if you are coming here you are looking for somewhere remote, so there's not much to say about local attractions: what is there is is what's around you! The house itself is nice and modern, if a touch bland in terms of decor. Can't fault the facilities in anyway, all clean and fucntioning, with plenty of pots and pans, comfy beds and two sitting rooms. Great views from the conservatory to Loch Laxford, why not take a quick dip in the Loch when you get back from a walk in the hills?
    Mr Lewis - June 2012
Accommodation was of a high standard and good value for money. One of the single bedrooms even had its own small sitting room. Good location for walking and fishing. There was no mobile signal in the house but good at the nearby bridge.
