    Lilybank Cottage reviews
We have stayed at Lilybank before and We enjoyed it as much as ever Long Walks, nights at the fireplace and incredibly peaceful HIGHLY RECOMMEND
    Ms Macarthur - March 2019
What a wonderful home from home. Totally isolated with a beautiful walk down to the beach. Peace and quiet galore. The cottage is very well equipped and comfortable with plenty of space. Loved the conservatory - ideal for watching the wildlife! The log fire was great and plenty of logs but think the fire may need a wee overhaul (the front grate is very unstable). We had no issues with the water (or the bottled water). Plenty to do and see in the surrounding areas including the lovely marina at Portavade. We loved our stay at the cottage and are just working out when we can return - it was exactly what the doctor ordered! P and M.
    Ms Doyle - February 2019
The location of the cottage was superb and the walk down to the private beach was stunning. We were left a lovely packet of biscuits as a welcome. There was a lovely range of equipment including a slow cooker and lots of nice glasses and crockery too which was fab. There wasn’t a decent size chopping board which proved challenging. The cottage is laid out beautifully with lots of quirky and interesting items to look at. The fire was a challenge to get going but once lit provided a lovley feature. The beds were really comfortable. The conservatory was beautiful and the views from the back of the cottage were stunning including the sunsets. If you can stay up late enough the stars and shooting stars are abundant. The Oystercatcher pub down the road at Otter Ferry is always amazing. My only issue with the cottage was that there were an Abundance of cobwebs in the conservatory and above / behind most of the doors. This did not spoil our holiday in any way. There was also a significant water leak from the kitchen ceiling when it rained which we mentioned to the property Manager.

Lilybank is in a fabulously secluded location. Come here if you want peace, quiet and stunning views. It’s a great size, far more spacious than it’s cute appearance would suggest. It’s secluded and so has no mains water, instead is supplied from its own reservoir up in a hill - whilst this sounds romantic, the water is brown and cannot be drunk or used in food preparation. It’s also low pressure so the electric shower is almost useless and the second bathroom only has a bath with shower attachment - the water heater works great but you’ll get one bath out of it - not ideal if there are a few of you and perhaps a few kids. The cottage is warm and cosy, I was dubious about electric storage heaters but they worked great, not so sure how they’ll cope in the coldest of winter though. The open stove in the lounge looks wonderful but needs some work, was falling apart and the supplied fire guard was inadequate for this size and shape of stove. Sofa and chairs in the lounge are a bit tired so no getting too cosy and comfy on a dark evening. BT Internet is present but is all but useless as the connection drops every minute or two and when working is barely fast enough to load the most basic web pages - seclusion is great but with no phone signal to speak of it helps to able to search for places to go or google maps. Shame. All in all, I’d still recommend Lilybank - the outside space and view of Loch Fyne are beautiful!
    Mr Riley - October 2018
Great place to relax and enjoy the silence, our whole family really enjoy the cottage and Scotland overall.
    Mr Hakanen - July 2017
A group of friends stayed here for a weekend and we picked a lovely place - the cottage may be old in its structure but has all the amenities needed for a short stay. There is a fully equipped kitchen, showers (hot water is a little temperamental!) and comfy beds. There is also a fire pit outside if you want to brave the midges. You can walk down to the shoreline but we found it really boggy in places, must have been a fair bit of rain before we came. You can also drive down to it along a bumpy rough track if you wish. The water, as stated, isn't the purest but, once boiled, is perfectly fine to drink. The cottage offers plenty peace and quiet and you won't disturb anyone if the fireside chatter is in full steam.
    Mr Mcshane - June 2017
Perfect. Nothing negative about this property. Absolute peace and tranquillity. Beautiful scenery. The house is warm, cosy and well equipped.
    Mrs Beattie - April 2017
Had a great time at this lovely cottage which is situated in a lovely secluded location - great for some peace and quiet. The cottage is very comfortable and spotlessly clean with lots of knick-knacks throughout which adds to the character. Was great to have a bathroom and a shower room with toilet. The water was sometimes a bit dodgy but was no great problem. Lovely open fire with plenty logs. There is great inside and outside space and lovely walks in the surrounding area. A couch and a couple of comfy chairs in the conservatory would be a great addition. Loved it so much that we have booked to go back twice next year
    Ms Mcquilkie - August 2016
Lily bank Cottage was lovely, great space for 6 people without feeling like living on top of each other. Furnished really well with lots of little extras and felt like a home rather than a holiday stay. Sun room/dining room could do with additional chairs but we just used ones from kitchen. Bath is small but great to have two bathrooms and one with shower. Garden is amazing, great outdoor space and safe for kids to run around and explore. The log fire was a great attraction, we loved sitting in front of it most evenings and kids enjoyed toasting marshmallows.....the kids even enjoyed setting the fire every morning!! The surrounding area has lots of beautiful coasts and plenty of exploring opportunities. We didn't have the best weather but still had a brilliant holiday.
    Ms Ledger - August 2016
Comfortable, well appointed cottage in a very secluded location down a two gated farm track. The beds were extremely comfortable with lovely duvets and linen but unfortunately there were not enough usable dining chairs in the conservatory. There was a good comfortable garden table and chairs and a fire pit in the garden with plenty of available fuel. There are plenty of good pubs/restaurants in the area. As a result of the period of fine weather, the cottage's water supply had all but run dry, which meant we had to use the supplied bottled drinking water and large water carriers for flushing the lavatories and for washing up. This was very inconvenient but the owners/manager tried to deal with it as best they could and promptly returned a proportion of our rent in compensation. In summary, this is a lovely cottage in a wonderful area and well worth a visit.
    Mrs Smith - June 2016
Really enjoyed our stay at this lovely rural cottage. Facilities included everything we possibly needed. Had lovely weather so got plenty of use from the garden and the breezy conditions meant that we were not bothered by any midges! Used the range every night (for the enjoyment not because we needed the heat). Only downside was that fact that the tap water can't be used without boiling it first, we didn't find this to be a major problem but it would have been nice to know in advance rather than on arrival. Had a lovely meal at the Kames Hotel and Duncans Stores also in Kames was very convenient. Would book this cottage again.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your review, your feedback is important. My apologies for not letting you know beforehand, it has been our normal procedure to do so while we follow these temporary precautionary measures. It has been an oversight on my part. It is lovely to hear you enjoyed your stay and I look forward to welcoming you back to Lilybank"
    Mrs Mullen - August 2014
A lovely wee cottage in beautiful, secluded surroundings. Comfy beds and kitchen with all the things you need. Warm and cosy with great fireplace. A great get-a-way and the first cottage we have stayed in where a lovely homemade cake was waiting for us. For our family of 6, including 2 teenagers, we could have done with a slightly bigger couch or another comfy chair (only a 2 seater and 2 armchairs in sitting room). A couch in the conservatory would be a great addition for another room to sit and relax in as it is warm with lovely views. Unfortunetly there was a bit of a problem with the private water supply and although this was rectified quickly it did reoccur towards the end of the week. Back to the positives, the grounds are great for children and dogs, loads of room to explore and the burn to paddle in. Lots of wildlife right on the doorstep and although lovely and remote still easy accessable by road and ferry and only a short drive to the village shop.
    Mrs Donaldson - April 2014
The cottage feels like home from the moment you arrive. Very comfy and welcoming. Our dog had the best time in the huge garden chasing the resident pheasants (never got near to catching one) and we were all sad to leave.
    Miss Bamber - October 2013
Lovely cottage inside and out, in a beautiful and peaceful location. Ideal for a quiet and relaxing holiday. Several places of interest to explore locally, plus a choice of eateries. The nearby ferry to Tarbert gives easy access to further exploration, if the fancy takes you. The water in the cottage is not suitable for drinking so take your own bottled supply. Even with this minor inconvenience, this is still a superb cottage in a wonderful location.
