Description

Little Gannochy, once the Factor's office for Gannochy Estate, is a delightful cottage in an idyllic setting a few seconds walk to the banks of the North Esk. A bright spacious sitting room with open fire has double doors leading through to the dining room, which in turn leads to the large fully equipped kitchen. An additional cosy TV room is ideal for children or adults needing a spot of down time, whilst a fabulous sun room is perfect for those chillier days and leads out to the patio area and the garden beyond. An office, rod room and laundry room provides the necessary space to keep up with everyday life, whilst upstairs the three comfortable bedrooms can all be twin or super-king double rooms and two have an en-suite shower rooms and the third has a private bathroom.

Outside is the most exquisite two acre walled garden complete with summerhouse, pond, extensive lawns and glorious herbaceous borders and shrubs. Completely secluded, guests can stroll up and down paths edged with box hedges, sit and enjoy the sun and bird song, have a game of tennis or literally take time to stop and smell the roses.

This area of Scotland is an ideal place for a perfect holiday and is less than 2 hours from all of Scotland's major airports. Located at the foot of the Angus Glens, with the North Esk River on the door step, and with the rugged Angus coast line less than a half hour drive, there are many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. For those with an interest in nature and wild life, there is the Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, which provides the perfect habitat for many migrant and resident species, or guests can head to the hills and tackle some of the ten nearby Munros and catch a glimpse of deer or grouse. Golfers can not only play the wonderful Edzell course but can choose from many picturesque and challenging courses including the world famous championship course at Carnoustie which is only a 45 minute drive. The central location of Edzell makes it a perfect touring base with the Castle Trail of Aberdeenshire, the Cairngorm National park and the pretty fishing towns of Angus and Kincardineshire all within easy reach.

    Little Gannochy reviews
    The cottage is gorgeous, as is the surrounding area. Very comfortable. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is that there are some basic things that would have made life easier. Oven gloves in the kitchen and a properly enclosed back garden for the dog would have made it 5 star. That aside, we’ve been twice now and will likely be back.

    Lovely house with great beds and lovely towels but let down by several key things The house was not clean the window sills and corners had dead flies and cobwebs. The còkerwas filthy the grill pan full of fat from previous cooking, the cooker I go was covered in grease and with dead flies. I have photos! Wi-Fi only reaches two rooms. Two toilet seats don't fit and are loose - a health and safety issue No dish cloths or pot scrubber so unable to clean. Lovely bedroom and ensuite bathroom without any mirror only a tiny free standing Ikea 6 inch mirror ?! No drawer space in one bedroom and very limited in others No info on rubbish and recycling. I would ask anyone renting out properties to stay in it and find out how frustrating it is! I left a note in the house outlining all this but I guess I had paid my money and no-one was interested as I had no contact.
    Owners Response: "Thank you for your review and we are certainly sad that you did find some issues. We always encourage guests to contact us during their stay if something is concerning them. Regarding the grill pan and cooker this must have been an oversight . We are not aware of problems with the wifi but will check it. The toilet seats are now fixed. The dish cloths etc are all in the drawer next to the sink. One of the ensuites does have a small mirror but will look into replacing it. One bedroom has a wall of wardrobes and a chest of drawers , another has a wardrobe with a large drawer in the base and the third has a wardrobe only with additional storage in the night stands . The trash and recycling bins are labelled but the weather must have faded them - they have now been remarked. Once again thank you and without comments no improvements can be made but please in future do feel free to contact us at the time. Thank you"

    Hose was excellent in beautiful peaceful setting. Garden was great for the dog. Edzell is a lovely village with friendly people. The North Esk gorge across the road provides easy and enchanting walks. If we come back to this area we will want to stay in Little Gannochy again!

    Charmingly furnished cottage with most comfortable of beds - and the lovely sound of river gushing by right outside front door. Even though we went in feb and garden still in its winter rest - it was idyllic to sit and read in the warmth of summer house. Enjoyed walk along river to rocks of solitude , as well as only half hour drive to walks beside Loch Lee .We will surely be back!

    The location was amazing on the River Esk; this was only a 2 minute walk from the front of the house. The river was teaming with salmon and the woods were full of red squirrels. The house itself has three good size bedrooms. My only comment would be some more drawers and blackout curtains please. The gardens were superb with a summer house which my wife and I spent a considerable amount of time sipping JD and coke whilst reading books; it was a great place to relax and enjoy the multitude of birds circling the garden. I rented the property to provide a location from which we could explore Angus and have sufficient space from my son to study for his GCSEs. The Study was ideal as was the internet access for this. Overall we had a fantastic stay and would definitely book again.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
