As you drive off the main road and gently meander through the breathtaking glen towards Loch Avich, time melts away and those blissful childhood holiday memories return. You will not be disappointed, as nestled amongst this beautiful 3,200 acre Argyll estate, lies Lochavich House, the perfect self-catering holiday house and a much loved family home, with its mesmerising views over Loch Avich and to the mountains beyond.

Lochavich House is a warm, comfortably spacious Victorian Lodge with a traditional feel, maintaining many of its original features and provides the perfect place for large parties or family gatherings. The light, elegant drawing room, with its welcoming log fire, enjoys spectacular views across Loch Avich and is the perfect refuge for relaxing, playing games or for good old fashioned conversation. The informal family kitchen, with its four oven AGA provides ample space to prepare dinner and is conveniently situated next door to the large formal dining room. The charming dining room creates the perfect atmosphere to while away the night, enjoying a fine dinner and a good bottle of wine. However, the pièce de résistance must be the games room with its full-sized billiards table and table tennis offering hours of entertainment for all ages.

Adjacent to the house is a delightful, cosy cottage. This has been recently renovated and provides an additional five beds, bringing the total house capacity to 17.

    We have hired a few big houses from Cottages and Castles over the years and this one is up there as one of the best. The view from the house of Loch Avich was simply stunning. The house itself is really comfortable for a big group with everything you need. The location is remote (we like that!) so no mobile and internet access but that meant that the young ones were not stuck to their phones the whole week and the house does at least have a land line so you are not completely cut off. There are loads of walks in the immediate area or a relatively short drive will take you to all sorts of attractions like Oban, Kilmartin Glen and the Slate Islands. Mrs McPhee, the housekeeper is a gem - very welcoming and super helpful. We hope to be able to book this house again in the future.

    We thoroughly enjoyed a weekend at Loch Avich House. The housekeeper was friendly and helpful, and the house was comfortable and pleasant. We had a great time cycling around the loch, and sea kayaking from the Isle of Seil.

    Very lovely, cosy, old family house, as if you are there upon invitation of the family. We had a wonderful stay in a very well equipped and lovely house, with big fire places and big stoves, all you expect from a Scottish house lying in a such a beautiful spot. We had a warm welcome by the lady taking care of the house when the family is away. If we are allowed to come back, we will definitely do so!

    Holiday Protection Scheme

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
