With an outstanding coastal location and direct access to a lovely sandy beach, Lunna Voe offers the perfect place for a relaxing holiday or short break. There is plenty of wildlife to watch on the beach, including a bevy of resident swans, numerous types of sea birds and the occasional visiting seal or otter. The shallow bay is also excellent for paddling and beachcombing.

Lunna Voe is a traditional Arran cottage, full of character and charm with country style furnishings and simple decor. The living room is welcoming and cosy with a good selection of books and a woodburning stove.

Outside there is a large mature garden with interesting plants and trickling streams and a family-sized picnic table for alfresco dining.

There is a very pleasant walk along the coast or along a country path to King's Cross Point, where you can sit on the rocks and contemplate the Holy Isle, a centre for world peace with a closed Buddhist retreat for women (the men's retreat in high up on the Ross Road near Lamlash). It is also a great place for a picnic and for watching the boat activity.

The self catering holiday cottage is located on the outskirts of the village but it's an easy stroll to the cafes and restaurants and other village amenities. There is also a golf course that welcomes visitors and a putting green. In the summer months, the village hall provides entertainment for all the family with ceilidhs, local bands and a weekly craft market. At the south end of the village you will find an art gallery and sculpture garden. There are many good walks nearby, including a forest walk to the spectacular Glenashdale Falls and Giant's Graves.

    Lunna Voe reviews
We had a brilliant holiday based at Lunna Voe. So close to lovely beach and the ideal facilities in whiting bay. We left our family kayaks on beach and bikes in garden and used them loads as well as doing all the usual Arran walks. Great walk to kings cross nearby and this year we managed ferry to holy isle for a great walk to be recommend. The house is cosy and we used the log fire a lot which was easy to light. The only problem we had was intermittent hot and cold shower which we didn’t ‘report’ as it was ok and bath was relaxing. The accommodation is not as fresh or new as other places we’ve stayed on Arran but it has a great cosy holiday feel with enough room for our family of five to relax. We’d all definately want to go back.

We had a wonderful stay at Lunna Voe. The beach location is fantastic, our 4 young daughters absolutely loved the beautiful beach. A nice short walk to a lovely park and playing field and not far to walk to the local amenities. Whiting Bay has some lovely cafes, Coast was wonderful and we dined at Eden Lodge one evening and the food was fantastic. The walk up to Glenashdale Falls & Giants Graves is well worth it, my 8 & 7 year olds loved it. The cottage itself is lovely, cosy and traditional, literally a stone's throwaway to the beach. There was enough of space for the 6 of us. The garden could do with a little TLC as it is a wonderful space. Everybody found the beds nice and comfortable and the cottage provides a good quality travel cot and high chair which we used all week. The washer & dryer is located in the downstairs bedroom cupboard, which took a little finding! We would love to stay again, Lunna Voe is a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful Isle of Arran.

We had an awesome three night stay at Luna Voe. Loved the quirkiness of the cottage and it more than catered for our needs. We ate breakfast everyday outside at the picnic table and every night we had a bbq [brought our own] across the road on the verge enjoying the sea view, Gannets diving for fish, the Swans elegantly enjoying a swim. The only negative, but this is not a make or break, was the power of the stream of water that came out. We will DEFINITELY go back to Luna Voe to finish off exploring the Isle of Arran.
    Mr Henderson - May 2019
The house is in a beautiful location and the beach front is yards away . We did have a week of 30 degrees sunshine and kids swam everyday in sea The beach has no seaweed and goes on for ever. Great supply of hot water , nice dishes etc house was clean and homely. We also ran into whiting bay every day on the road then ran back along beach right to the house . We didn’t eat in whiting bay but the wee shop / garage is a lovely store and great coffee . The only thing I would say is that the photos of the house made it look much bigger , it really is very snug and our son frequently got his shoulders stuck in between walls going up stairs Hysterical to watch ! The child’s bedroom defo is only for a toddler , my daughter was going to sleep in there but she would have knocked her head on sloping ceiling sitting up in middle of night so she ended up in upstairs twin bedroom with her brother which was fine . If you do visit in bad weather bring some dvd’s For kids as there is no WiFi/ phone signal , you can sometimes get phone signal at bottom of beach .. my husband had some work calls knee deep into water which by far is most pleasant way to deal with work looking out that view . Whiting bay is a good base location as it only takes 10 minutes or so to get back to Lamlash / Brodick and in the opposite direction to Kildonan Where the food is amazing at Kildonan hotel you can take the dogs inside to eat and good hot homade food, watching the world cup on the big tv . The house defo is questionable about sleeping 5 and I would say it is over priced due to the size of it and the age of some of decor /facilities But really other than size and relative pricing I did like the house and the neighbours whose house is directly in front of cottage were just amazing and so helpful and friendly , meeting Lulu and family made our holiday .

I don't understand why rental properties almost without exception are missing at least one sink plug! Or why there is usually a collection of old (coffee percolator and jelly moulds - I think) or broken (in this case scissors) kitchen utensils. Why keep a pile of lids when the pans themselves are missing, or unused table lamps cluttering up the cupboard with the cleaning stuff? I appreciate it's a cottage, therefore rooms are small, but better lighting in the dining area would help to overcome the very gloomy atmosphere in that room, unlike the ornaments throughout that only serve to accentuate the lack of space - I'm thinking particularly of the plethora of jugs on ledges and worst of all, the antlers! However, the Manager was courteous and helpful, the cleaner cheerful and friendly - the cottage clean and perfectly situated for a family to enjoy the beach and nearby playground. The local shop had an amazing stock of delicious food ingredients.
Owners Response: "Thank you for taking the time to review Lunna Voe. All feedback is greatly appreciated as we like to make sure our clients return. Please accept our apologies for the missing sink plug, this has been replaced. I will be asking our housekeeper to carry out a check on the pans so thank you for drawing this to our attention. The unused lamps are kept in the housekeepers cupboard and stored away as we may use them at a later date. I have been advised the issue re the lighting in the dining room was easily resolved. We try to furnish the cottage in keeping with the local area, and do take on board your comments. I am pleased your found our Manager courteous and helpful, I will ensure your kind comments are relayed back. We look forward to you staying at Lunna Voe again"
    Mrs Macjannette - June 2018
Great location - wonderful holiday Agent very helpful on phone thanks. Only thing that does need looking at I think - I am familiar with woodburners but was totally unable to keep this one alight..... not sure why.... does not seem to draw.
    Dr Penney - September 2017
Lunna Voe is very close to the beach and was a perfect location for our family of 6, comprising a family of 5 (including baby) and Grandma. The boys were able to mess about on the beach and ride their scooters down the drive and the track at the end of the drive. There is a play area very close and the playing fields are the landing place for the helicopter which fascinated the children and the adults as well! The house is quite snug and it is well furnished. The kitchen was good and everything worked. There was a lot of furniture, some of which we felt was not particularly useful, and we thought that the space would have been better but that is personal choice. We loved the garden and the boys enjoyed playing in it. All in all we had a great time.
    Mrs Tilby - August 2017
The property Lunna Voe was in an ideal location and we very much enjoyed our stay. The ability to step out of the house onto the beach was fabulous. The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. As always there are a few issues that are worth feeding back, none of which ruined the visit but are all intended to be taken constructively. Overall, the property was very comfortable if a little bit tired. It is a nice cottage which seems to be lacking a little bit of care and attention. Property was extremely dusty - we were all on anti-histamines to survive the week! On arrival we had superb heating but no hot water - this issue was rectified after several calls to the helpful assistance numbers. Shower poor quality and only operated at a comfortable temperature on a very weak pressure. We took baths. The starter pack was not very helpful. There was little local information and the pages about the property itself were incomplete with pages clearly missing. Crockery in the kitchen was rather eccentric in balance - dozens of huge impractical plates and a slight shortage of smaller plates. Non-stick pans were very tired indeed, bordering on the unhealthy to use (non-stick frying pans need to be replaced urgently as the current ones are not safe, since the surface is heavily degraded). Kitchen bin and kitchen plastic sink bowl both poor quality and broken. Dining area would benefit from a standing light - rather dark in there in winter.
Owners Response: "Thank you for taking the time to review Lunna Voe. All feedback is greatly appreciated as we like to make sure our client’s are happy. I am very sorry that you found the Cottage lacking in areas. You mentioned the furniture being old. I am not sure what constitutes old, as it has all been replaced in the past three years. It is not modern in design as that would not be in keeping with the overall look and feel of the cottage. With regard to the dust, hot water and starter pack. I have forwarded all of this to my Housekeeper who is ensuring that all of these are rectified. I am unsure as to why the shower was poor quality we normally receive very positive feedback as to the strength of the shower. This is the first season that we have rented the cottage in the off peak season so we are grateful for your feedback with regard to lighting. With regard to the crockery in the kitchen being rather eccentric. It was all purchased last year as complete sets from Ikea and was purchased as it was in keeping with our fisherman’s cottage. The pans are being replaced as I write. I hope this puts your mind at rest that we take all feedback constructively and are reactive. We look forward to you staying with us again."
    Mr Martin - February 2017
Cottage was very quaint and had beautiful views of the sea. Very clean when we arrived and the layout works well for a family. Generally, we had all the facilities we needed, although the dining area could do with another lamp and it would be useful to keep e.g. extra toilet roll somewhere, as we didn't manage to find this. Parking wasn't very easy with a large car, so worth mentioning that to future visitors! Overall, an enjoyable stay.
    Mrs Roberts - September 2016
This is our second holiday at Lunna Voe and we were equally impressed. The location so close to the beach makes it for us. A warm cosy cottage. We will definitely return.
    Mrs Timms - July 2016
Lunna Voe's location is excellent, on a very quiet track within a few yards of the beach. Whiting Bay is a charming village. The house is compact but has lots of character, and - importantly - comfy beds. We had a few issues with the level of cleaning / preparation e.g. the fridge had we think been switched off prior to our trip, meaning half our weekend with warm beer! But the housekeeper responded fast to our contact, which is always good. Overall, the house is a fine choice for - like us - a small family group.
    Ms Guthrie - April 2016
Lunna Voe is in a lovely location, across a quiet track from the beach on the outskirts of Whiting Bay. The cottage is cosy, characterful and well equipped.
    Mrs Adams - April 2016
We booked Lunna Voe for a short break in November, sadly storm Abigail cut our stay short. The few days that we spent on Arran were lovely despite the weather. The cottage was very well equipped, also it was lovely and warm with a real cosy feel especially with the log burner on, just right for stormy November nights. The proximity to the sea,for walks with the dog was such a treat. The best compliment I can think of is, we will defiantly go back to Arran and stay in Lunna Voe.
    Mrs Hastie - November 2015
We have just come back from a lovely week staying at Lunna Voe, Whiting Bay, Arran. We have stayed in a number of cottages on Arran and I can recommend this cosy cottage right on the beach. We arrived early and were allowed to put our shopping that needed to be in the fridge away and then wandered along the bay to the village to have coffee and cake, ended up in the village hall and chatted for ages.We ambled back ready to find the cottage clean and tidy and a welcome pack waiting for us. We have two dogs and they were in heaven to be able to take a few steps from the door and be on the beach or a walk, was wonderful. The cottage is compact but perfectly homely, warm and the beds so comfy it was hard to get up to enjoy the countryside and all it offered. The kitchen was well equipped and there was always plenty of hot water. We were luckyish with the weather but did have to batten down the hatches one afternoon and lit the log fire. Toastie toes and plenty to read made the afternoon go quickly. Plenty to do and see on the Island tho sadly not a pub in the village. There are plenty of good places to eat and the quiz in the Drift Inn, a must. I would go back anytime and hope everyone that stays after us enjoys it as much as us.
    Mr Lacey - May 2015
Stayed at Lunna Voe for a week in May. It's a great house, 3 bedrooms were more than adequate for myself, the wife and our 2 and a half year old. The kitchen is fully equipped (including dish washer, although no microwave) and the whole house is very comfortable. Location is right on the beach - which is great if you have little ones. The beach is mainly rocky, but with small patches of sand for all your sandcastling needs and there is a playpark five minutes walk away. Easy 10 minute drive into Brodick with the whole island being very accessible due to it's small size. We will definitely look at booking Lunna Voe again in the future.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your review. I take on board your valid point with regard to the microwave and will be installing one shortly. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Lunna Voe and very much look forward to seeing you again soon."
    Mr Todd - May 2015
Great location which was rather underplayed in the details. For us it would have been great to know that the property was only across a small track ( which leads to only 2 other properties) from the sea. We had to try and work this out from google earth, not knowing exactly which the house was! Property details state there is a washing machine - there are no instructions to use this which is very poor and rendered it useless for us for the week despite pressing every combination of buttons? Also there is a new heating system with again no instructions. All else good and we enjoyed our stay.
Owners Response: "Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at our property. I am so pleased that you liked location. I will ask Cottages and Castles to update the details with regard to mentioning the small track. With regards to the washing machine having instructions. In the three years of renting out the property this has never been deemed necessary as the machine is fairly straightforward. It has since transpired that there was a problem with the door switch so this may have been why it was not working for you. There is a file for guests in the property which gives telephone numbers of the housekeeper and handyman. Both of which would have been only too happy to help out with this situation. I apologise for the inconvenience. There are also instructions for the heating system (rather ridiculously a set of instructions for each heater despite them all being the same!) these can be found in the drawer in the sitting room. I have made sure that one has been put into the file as well. I hope this answers any queries you raised and hope to see you at Lunna Voe again."
    Mrs Spencer - August 2014
Very good position close to beach. Loved Whiting Bay - great for dog walks when the tide was out a bit. However the garden at Lunna Voe was not enclosed as expected which meant we had to always go out with the dog. Nice welcome pack in cottage, well furnished, lovely wood burning fire. Hoover did not work very well, did not suck dirt upwards. We like to keep the floors clean with the dog. There was a damp musty smell when you open the front door and we worked out that it came from the cupboard in the hall where the cleaning material was stored. Otherwise the cottage was lovely.
Owners Response: "Thank you for posting your review. Since this was posted I can confirm that the cottage has had a major overhaul as further investigations were needed with regard to the damp musty smell. This came about from the horrendous rain we suffered last winter and sadly the run-off from the garden was affecting the property. This has been rectified and I can assure you that there is no damp musty smell. The vacuum cleaner has also been replaced with a top of the range Dyson. We pride ourselves on offering our property at a very high standard and take on board and act accordingly where necessary with regard to any feedback that we receive."
    Mrs Robertson - June 2012
Great holiday, loved the location of the property and the Isle of Arran, would definitely  go back. The caretakers (Fiona and Peter) were very helpful and everywhere we went people were extremely friendly.   Loved the Coffee Pot in Whiting Bay!
    Mrs Potter - April 2012
