A solitary country cottage set on a hillside a mile outside Archiestown, the highest village in Morayshire. Lynes Cottage is surrounded by a hundred acres of its own farmland and enjoys glorious sweeping views across to Ben Rinnes and down the Spey Valley towards the river Spey and the Cairngorm National Park. Behind the cottage a small wood of ancient Scots Pine trees leads into the vast Elchies forest where the quiet tracks provide miles of easy walking and cycling. This bright and cosy cottage has recently been refurbished and provides an ideal base for a tranquil, relaxing holiday from which to enjoy the scenery and wildlife or equally to take advantage of the many active pursuits on offer in this lovely area.

A cosy sitting room with its wood burning stove is ideal for relaxed sociable evenings and the bright, spacious well equipped kitchen/diner is perfect for informal dining or enjoying the views over a leisurely breakfast. Upstairs the two bedrooms are light and airy with fresh decor and a further single bedroom downstairs, together with family bathroom, shower room and utility room makes this country cottage ideal for guests to enjoy a perfect holiday. Outside, surrounded only by woods and farmland, the views are endless. Guests can walk along a woodland path to Archiestown, a mile away, where they can enjoy a delicious meal and a pint or two or set off on bike or foot to explore the miles of woodland tracks to be enjoyed from the door.

This picturesque area of Moray is ideally placed for guests to see the variety of scenery that Scotland has to offer, from the beaches of the Moray Coast to the mighty river Spey and on to the high tops of the Cairngorm mountains. The beautiful sandy beaches and the picturesque fishing villages of the Moray Firth, only a short car journey away, offer opportunities to sail, windsurf, dolphin spot and take walks along sandy dunes or in pretty harbour towns. Heading inland are the mountains and moorland of the Cairngorm National Park with over 30 Munros to challenge the hill walker. The ski slopes of Aviemore (45 minute drive) and the Lecht (30 minute drive) offer between them over 50 km of exciting skiing in breathtaking surroundings.

In addition to the extensive forest walks and mountain bike tracks behind Lynes Cottage, the Speyside Way is close at hand and offers 65 miles of stunning scenery to walk through. Golfers will love the many excellent courses in the area including Ballindalloch, Elgin, Grantown on Spey and Speybay, whilst other guests may prefer the Malt Whisky Trail with the world famous Macallan and Cardhu Distilleries less than 5 miles from the house and just two of many in the Spey Valley which is renowned for its whisky making.

For those who enjoy Scottish history, a trip to Cawder Castle, romantically linked with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, or the National Trust of Scotland’s Brodie Castle is a must and locally there is Ballindalloch Castle, a magnificent 16th century castle. The historic Knockando Woolmill provides a chance to see one of a few surviving small scale woollen mills in the world.

The cottage is minutes from the River Spey, one of the best salmon and sea trout rivers in Scotland, and shooting and stalking can also be arranged locally.

    Lynes Cottage reviews
The stunning location was matched by a warm welcome, and a lovely cottage that lacked nothing except perhaps a freezer! We enjoyed the privacy and peace and quiet. The views are amazing.
    Mrs Greaves - May 2018
Wir kommen definitiv wieder TRANSLATION : This cottage is a wonderful place. It is very quiet, with a very good facilities. We enjoyed the time there very much. Within an hour you can see and discover much of the Scottish highlands. We were lucky enough to be able to visit both Thunder in the Glen and the Highland Games .... We will definitely be back
    Ms Borgwalst - August 2017
We had a wonderful stay at Lynes Cottage. It is magnificently situated, with a wonderful view on beautiful landscapes. No neighbours to worry about. Centrally located from the different whisky distilleries, the sea isn't far away neither but you wille off course need to take your car. We were very warmly welcomed by Carol, the householder. The kitchen of the cottage is a little bit outdated, but fits well in the rural charming aspect of its environment. We just missed one more chair for the outdour and a working can opener. We really enjoyed our stay at Lynes Cottage and thank you again.
    Mr Vanneste - July 2017
Comfortable, clean & well-equipped. Lots of outdoor activities - woodland walks & lovely beaches. Also castles and distilleries for wet days. Quiet roads, plenty of wildlife, would definitely revisit the area.
    Ms Wardlaw - July 2017
On a one week stay you can easily do completely different things every day - visiting distilleries, castles or mansion houses, doing river or seaside walks, a trip with a historic steam or diesel railway, visiting a stramash (every monday in Dufftown) and so on. The cottage itself is very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The kitchen is very well equipped. Although it is in a very quiet position you can reach Aberlour or Craigellachie with its famous hotel, Highlander Inn or (our special tip) Fiddichside Inn in ten minutes by car. We would never choose another cottage when in the Speyside area.
    Mr Meier - May 2017
Great cottage, ideal for getaway in stunning scenery. Plenty to do. We visited Cawdor Castle, Fort George, Findhorn Bay. Visited Speyside Cooperage. Lots of lovely towns and villages. The only criticism is that the fridge has a small freezer compartment and should be a combined fridge freezer given the length of stay. Otherwise perfectly clean and well presented with welcoming coffee and milk..! Dog friendly too and great open fire. Thank you
    Mr Henzell - July 2016
The cottage was both extremely clean and comfortable , housekeeper is very efficient . Beds were very comfortable plenty hot water , i was very impressed with the cottage and as per heading exceeded expectations
    Mr Duthie - May 2016
Very comfortable and beautifully located traditional cottage well placed for visiting this, to us, very well known and great area. From the cottage places like Elgin, Dufftown and Huntly are all worth visiting and enjoying the individual towns characters and interest. Regarding the cottage there are two minor irritations - the duvet was Tog 10.5 and far too hot (so we bought another lower Tog) and the TV was too small! Would definitely return - can we bring our dogs?
    Mr Milne - August 2015
    Very good place to stay
    Mr Garcia - August 2015
We chose Lynes Cottage because of its central location among a lot of distilleries. It is well equipped and feels very comfortable. We liked to shop at the butcher and at the SpeyLarder in Aberlour. The caretaker's closet needs to be cleaned out, lots of open food.
    Mr Malson - August 2014
