Description

If you are looking for a big, bright house that allows you to enjoy the best of the Cairngorms, then this is it. Lynwilg House is a bright and spacious Edwardian house with a welcoming feel and wonderful views. From the front of this big holiday house you can look right across to Cairngorm and the ski lifts, whilst behind the house you are at the start of the very popular Burma way that allows you to walk or cycle for miles. Aviemore and Coylumbridge are on your doorstep but you are perfectly positioned just off the A9 to enjoy peace and solitude as well as the views.

The main house is fresh and light and well furnished. It has the feel of a good quality family house and is a perfect oasis after a day in the country. The spacious sitting room has an open fire and lovely views across the mountains and the very pretty garden that surrounds the house. There is a pool room for the young and young at heart. The bedrooms on the first floor also benefit from wonderful landscapes, a fresh clean feel and plenty of bathrooms, with only the single bedroom not having an en-suite or its own bathroom.

This is a great holiday home – well priced for the quality and a pleasure to stay in.

    Lynwilg House reviews
    Lynwilg is a lovely house in a peaceful location. Accommodation is as described, with plenty of space for storage and for drying wet outdoor equipment. The large enclosed garden is great for children. Fabulous views of the Cairngorms from the house and garden. Aviemore is a short drive or cycle ride away. An excellent choice for a holiday with extended family or a group of friends.

    Our second visit to Lynwilg with children and grandchildren. We all love the house because it is so spacious and family friendly - the playroom with the pool Table, the log fire in the evenings, the garden for the kids and dogs, the Aga which cooks everything so beautifully, the proximity to so many activities - where do I stop! The Gin from the Kinrara Distillery next door is excellent and thank you for all the extra touches such as flowers and the table ready set for us for dinner!

    We stayed here as a family of 4 but the house is huge and could easily have accomodated more (6 bedrooms?). The gardens are really lovely, as was the weather when we stayed, and we enjoyed BBQs and picnics in the grounds. There are nice walks fom the door and there are tons of excellent things to do in Aviemore, which is a few minutes drive away. The kitchen is well appointed and everything in the house worked. The house is well though through, lots of nice details about how things are done. We would be very happy to stay there again. It would be ideal for 2 families sharing or if you have a large family. Few things to bear in mind. The house is near a busy road - in the front garden there is some road noise and to walk into Aviemore involves crossing it without there being a very safe place to do so. The furnishings downstairs are a little dated and we struggled to open some of the windows and doors. None of this was a big deal to us.

    great house in great location-just 5 minute drive from Aviemore but in the country.house good for our group-good variety of rooms, bathrooms and fridges!-excellent garden which was fenced-so good for dogs-and i suppose kids. the caretaker was really friendly and helpful, and the complementry bottle of gin was a lovely surprise-and enjoyed sitting in the garden on a sunny afternoon. We also enjoyed the variety of walks nearby which although close to aviemore-were quiet, but enjoyed being able to get a variety of takeaway in nearby Aviemore

    This accommodation was great for large groups, the house was so spacious even the outside was great for relaxing and enjoying the fresh air. Was close to main area of Aviemore and within easy reach of surrounding tourist areas.Would definitely book this house again, we were a party of eight adults & mixed ages and there was no problems as regards to private space and bathrooms

    Absolutely fantastic weekend stay at Lynwilg House. Nine of us (and two young children) came together for my mum's 70th birthday and we all had a brilliant time and loved our time at the house. The house is beautiful and extremely spacious with tons of room for all. The pictures really do not do the house or extensive gardens justice. The host, Lorna, could not have been more attentive and generous, and even assisted with birthday decorations before our arrival. She gave us an exceptional welcome, showed great attention to detail in all that she did for us, and could not have been more helpful before and during the weekend. The house itself was faultless; very clean and spacious, with plenty of character but also with the modern essentials such as Wi-Fi. The games room was also fun for a few evening games of pool. The location of the house is also first class, with several cracking walks from the front door, including the Burma Road. Aviemore is a 5 minute drive away as well, and the drive to the house is accessed directly from the A9 so is easy to find. To anyone thinking that the A9 traffic noise could be an issue...it's not at all. Inside the house, you cannot hear the road at all, and in the garden you hardly notice the tyre noise of passing vehicles. It's really not intrusive in the slightest, and we spent hours in the garden sledging and making snowmen! Overall, it really is the perfect location for a family get together. The log fire in the living room is the perfect way to spend an evening in while enjoying a few glasses of wine! Highly recommended, we will be going back.

    Our third stay at Lynwilg House and all 10 of our party really enjoyed the facilities. Great location for various walks and snow sports. If required it is a short taxi journey into Aviemore and costs about £8. Big thank you to Lorna for looking after us providing us with local knowledge about skiing locations and conditions.     Lynwilg House was a great setting for a special family holiday. Period accommodation with all the mod com's to make it extremely comfortable. Kids loved exploring the house and gardens. On the doorstep of Aviemore and the Cairngorm National Park so a wealth of activities to keep all the family entertained. We crammed in a lot on our 5 day stay, Fennicular Railway to mountain top, boating on Loch Morlich, Theme Park for kids and Wildlife Parks. The restraaunts are also family friendly. Would highly recommend.

    We hired the house in August for a family home holiday. We all loved it and grandchildren had a great time. The views from the house were amazing. We had a red squirrel come to feed on the hazelnuts which we hid in the tree and around the bushes.There is lots to do nearby and we went on an evening pine martin watch which was great. The house was so good that we have already booked it again for next year with the other half of the family.

    Well equiped kitchen with aga, spacy and light livingroom, beautiful and comfortable bedrooms. Fresh flowers awaiting us, very kind contact person. We had a great time there and also the children loved the house and the garden. Beautiful area. Aviemore as a village is not so special but practical because of the environment and the shops like Tesco nearby. We had a great time at Tomatin distillery, near Aviemore. Also the rendeer feeding at loch morlich was a great experience for the kids. We loved also of course the hiking in the cairngorms.

    This is a brilliant property in an excellent location. A lovely home with plenty of space and ideally located for activities in the surrounding area. Very clean and ideal for a large family or group. We were 9 adults and 4 kids. The gardens are very large and beautiful. We had an excellent time here and Lorna the manager was very helpful. I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.

    We stayed here as our base for touring the Highlands. The house is stunning and very spacious. Lorna was very gracious and thoughtful. There were fresh flowers, a welcome chocolate and biscuit box and shampoo & shower gel in the bathrooms (as well as soap for all the sinks). We are a family of 7 and everyone had space. The kitchen was very comfortable to work in with a real aga (as well as a regular oven) and a barstool area. We ate in the morning room off of the kitchen and for more formal meals had the dining room (with elegant glassware!). A fully dedicated laundry area was very appreciated. The large sitting room was a delight and the pool room was a big hit with the kids. There is a stunnning view from the house and an absolutely enormous garden (great for sports and football). The bedrooms are spacious and there are plenty of bathrooms. Well located for local shops in Aviemore and near nature walks and outdoor activities. Our stay at Lynwilg house made our holiday perfect.

    No place is perfect, but this one was close! It was a massive house for 2 families. Think it will do good for 3 families. Some of the rooms we did not use. It was clean, immaculate, wellfurnished and had most things we needed. The owner has a good taste in painting and drawings. The bathrooms and toilets were good, clean and functional with hot water 24/7.large garden to enjoy outside. Very well placed just off A9 in Aveimore, not far off Inverness.The manager Ms. Lorna Calder was extremely good, quick to respond, very helpful. She offered to come over to help us find the house when we couldn' t find it at midnight. She had put fresh flowers in at least 3 rooms. She even gave us an anniversary gift and offered to bring her own lamb for a photo. She showed us how to use aga! and even light the woodfire in the lounge. We would highly recommend this place.

    We rented this house for a 70th birthday celebration, it was ideal for a family group. Adults and children enjoyed the space the house afforded together with the large enclosed garden. The house was comfortable, warm and spotlessly clean. Fresh flowers in the living rooms and a very welcome fruit bowl. We visited a local restaurant 'la Taverna', ideal for families, Loch Morlich for bike rides and walks, Loch Insh for water sports and our favourite was Loch An Eilein for walking.

    Lynwilg was the ideal setting for a three generation family holiday. The house is very comfortable, warm and spacious with lots of room and a wonderful large enclosed garden, safe for children and dogs. The Aga was fantastic as was the log fire with all fuel provided. The greatest thing was the space so we were not tripping over each other. The house has a lovely atmosphere and Lorna, the manager was so helpful after we left some things behind. We will definitely be coming back and all our children and grandchildren have such happy memories of a wonderful week.

    Large property with spacious rooms. Well equipped and clean. There was a problem with flies in the large double bedroom. This was the only room with lots of sticky pads to catch flies, so I guess this has been a problem for a while and maybe needs to be looked into. Canoeing on Loch Morlich was a lovely experience.

    This was an ideal house for our large family group. Every bedroom was lovely and although three were not en-suite, there were two excellent bathrooms for them to share. The fabulous, large and enclosed garden was excellent for our dogs and for our games of cricket! It is ideally situated close to all the amenities in the Aviemore area and I would recommend it as an ideal holiday home.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
