    Pinegrove Cottage reviews
We enjoyed our stay in Pinegrove Cottage. It is well equipped and in a good location. Very quiet but only a 10 minute walk into Dunkeld with its range of shops and restaurants. Lots to do in the locality. We bought a book and enjoyed a coffee in the bookshop. Had a nice lunch in the Institute and a good pizza from the Inn. All within a two minute walk.
    Mr Buckley - June 2019
Great location for walks and visits around the area. Cottage was ideal, clean comfortable and homely. All the small things you need to take supplied by the owner. All you have to take are clothes and food. Would, and have recommended to friends.
    Mr Brown - May 2019
This has probably been our most favourite holiday location. Fantastic walks and views. Local shop nearby also great cafes with excellent coffee and cakes. Dunkeld only a short walk away. Only took us 15 mins. Lots of eating places which were dog friendly which was great. The cottage was perfect for us. Located in a lovely courtyard. Warm and cosy. Great kitchen with space to sit and eat, comfortable beds and the on suite was great. I really enjoyed the complementary bottle of local wine and the many stations on the tv was an asset when relaxing at night. The only suggestion I would make is to get new couches in the living room. As they were not that comfortable after a while.
    Mrs Smith - February 2019
Great little cottage with plenty of space with the two beds rooms. Close by to Perth and other local attractions. Would stay again.
    Mr Skinner - December 2018
A excellent cottage, which was warm and comfortable, located in a charming part of Perthshire, close to local amenities in a very interesting area. Walks immediately from the door either by the River Tay or if preferred on higher terrain, through some stunning scenery, especially when the Autumn colours abound. Dunkeld, is an interesting town, with a number of hotels/pubs all providing evening meals, the 'Perth Arms', being our favorite, also Dunkeld is the home of the Scotish folk/fidle music scene,
    Mr Gibbins - October 2018
A well placed, warm and cosy cottage. The colours of the trees in autumn is breath taking in this . So many beautiful walks from the door. Well equipted , very comfortable beds. The only reason I have given 3 stars is that the settee's were not comfortable. No support left in them, they had definately seen better days !
    Mrs Cawthra - October 2018
It was so relaxing to stay at this beautiful little place! A home away from home;) It was a vacation we will never forget! The Cottage was everything and more for us. We plan on coming back to Scotland and hope to have the opportunity to stay at Pinegrove Cottage again!! We rented a car and this central location was perfect for day trips to many attractions;) We enjoyed everything so much.
Mr And Mrs Smeaton - September 2018
A lovely cottage, quaint, well equipped and very clean. A great place from which to tour the local area as there was so much to do on our doorstep I.e. The Hermitage, Faskally, Pitlochry, Faskayy and the Loch of the Lowes. Birnam and Dunkeld were both picturesque - we enjoyed our evening walks by the river and across the bridge for a refreshing drink. We also enjoyed the local wildlife, the Ospreys, Woodpeckers and Red Squirrels to name a few. Denise was very helpful.
    Mrs Gordon - May 2018
We had a lovely week in Birnam. The cottage is very comfortable and extremely well-equipped. There are plenty of nice walks and loads of places to eat within walking distance. We had a lovely breakfast and great coffee at the Birnam Institute. Our meal at the Indian restaurant in Dunkeld, the Darjeeling, was very good as was the service. Fiddlers now get together at the Royal Hotel in Dunkeld and not the Taybank!
    Mrs Davidson - April 2018
Lovely cottage in perfect location. Well equipped clean and tidy. Requires new mattress in double room and the two lounge settee are desperately uncomfortable, as the padding has past its best. I would return of these problems were fixed.
Owners Response: "Thank you very much for the feedback. I am very sorry that you found the double bed and the sofas uncomfortable. This is our first report of this nature so we will go up this weekend and check things out."
    Ms Murray - March 2018
We found this cottage very cosy and well equipped. The beds were particularly comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The location is great. We had some lovely walks, and everyone we met was very friendly. We've given it four stars rather than five just because we thought it needs a little updating, but we had a lovely week and wouldn't hesitate to book this cottage again.
    Mr Murphy - February 2018
Pinegrove Cottage shares a courtyard location with other 19th century terraced homes. There is room for one car tucked outside and, if like us, you have a second vehicle this can be parked further away. The sitting room is cosy, with a gas-fired stove, and there were particularly welcoming touches by the owner – a bottle of local elderberry wine (delicious, we bought some more), biscuits and even a small decanter of whisky. The kitchen is well-equipped, the beds are comfortable, the en suite shower works well, there is a downstairs bathroom with WC and bath, and there are lots of local maps and guides to the area, plus a good selection of books, DVDs and music. There is nothing that we needed that was not provided (except perhaps the bedroom could do with a couple of chairs to dump clothes, plus a towel rail for the en suite). There is a local store for immediate needs, a second hand bookshop almost on the doorstep and an institute that stages interesting exhibitions and productions. Nearby Dunkeld exudes history, and further afield there is plenty to do – in our case a visit to Glenshee for snow sports, Dundee to see Scott’s ship Discovery (highly recommended), and a Parkrun in Perth (next to an interesting museum about the Black Watch regiment). The cottage is good a stepping off point to explore into the Highlands or enjoy Lowland walks and culture. A great place to visit. Thank you.
    Mr Flint - January 2018
A really great area with lots of fantastic walks. We really liked the cosy lounge and sunny courtyard. We had a lovely stay.
    Mrs Vincent - August 2017
The cottage was comfortable and well equipped . The surrounding area , Birnam and Dunkeld are both very picturesque. It was possible to go for walks from the cottage every day and explore the beautiful countryside. We received a very warm welcome at Dunkeld Golf Club and really enjoyed playing golf there. Watching the Ospreys fly over head as you play is fantastic. The fact that the station is a five minute walk from Pinegrove Cottage is great and we visited Stirling and Inverness on the train . The only slight issues were -No light bulb over the kitchen table and no colander , difficult to drain pasta .
    Mrs Hudson - July 2017
Loved the cottage and the area. We had a quiet and relaxing week. Perthshire is very beautiful birnam woods was my particular favourite.
    Mrs Henderson - July 2017
A lovely cottage in a secluded courtyard close to local amenities, with Dunkeld only a short walk away with plenty of shops and eating places. Dunkeld Smoked Salmon has the best we've ever tasted and is well worth a visit. My brother and I had our birthday meal at Dunkeld House Hotel, which has recently been refurbished. The service was excellent, the food outstanding, and the price very reasonable. A wonderful location right next to the river completed a perfect evening. Blair Castle and it's amazing gardens are close by, and The House of Bruar for a great shopping experience. There are many attractions within easy driving distance including Falkland Palace.
    Mr Crook - June 2017
All you could want in cottage, including a very welcome "welcome pack".
    Mr Webb - June 2017
The cottage had everything and, once the lights were on, was welcoming and comfortable. The neighbours were friendly. I'm not sure the iron worked or maybe that was just my incompetence. We enjoyed visiting castles, walking along the Tay and forestry commission tracks. The contrast between the fruit growing area and poly tunnels to the east and mountains to the west was interesting. Seeing an osprey on the nest with one chick hatched and two to go was a thrill (at Loch of Lawes).
    Mrs Haworth - May 2017
Lovely little cottage easy to find and with great walks right on your doorstep. Ideal if you have a small dog and enjoy walks and beautiful scenery. There are also plenty of nice places to eat within walking distance from the cottage. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definately recommend it to others.
    Mr Brew - April 2017
Pinegrove cottage is situated in a splendid area for a holiday. We really appreciated the little touches on arrival for our xmas holiday - like the welcoming local wine, and the fact that everything was ready for us. The riverside walks and forest walks were excellent and really made our holiday, while our meal in the Atholl Arms Hotel was a highlight. When the weather was wet or cold it was nice to stay in the cottage and make our own meals. The bedrooms were so cosy and we all had good nights sleep. Our 2 small dogs quickly adapted to life in the cottage. In the evenings we played dominoes or watched the tv, the gas fire was really handy on the colder evenings. We liked Dunkeld and Birnam firstly because of the lovely scenery and walking but also the warmth of local people.
    Mrs Bartle - December 2016
We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay at Pinegrove Cottage. This quaint little cottage was the perfect base for our explorations. The hiking paths, located within walking distance, are incredible. We were able to walk to many attractions in the area. The walks to Dunkeld and The Hermitage were so beautiful! It was also a great central location for our day trips by car to the Highland Folk Museum, the Cairngorms National Park, Culloden battlefield, and Fife. The cottage was cozy and comfortable and offered all the amenities. After a long day of hiking, it was a joy to return to Pinegrove and relax by the fireplace. It certainly was a great value for the rate we paid in mid-October. We hope to return to Scotland some day and we would definitely stay at Pinegrove again.
    Mrs Durost - October 2016
We very much enjoyed our week at Pinegrove Cottage which was very comfortable and catered for all our needs. It was in a quiet setting and very well placed to visit the local area. Sunny weather all week was an additional bonus! We particularly enjoyed the local forest and river walks, the working mill at Blair Atholl and mill with bookshop at Aberfeldy, and seeing the ospreys at Loch of the Lawes. We thought Dunkeld cathedral was in a particularly lovely setting by the river. We would recommend 'The Tayside Marina' restaurant by the Scottish Crannog Centre for lunch.
    Mrs Stuart - August 2016
Thoroughly enjoyed our week at Pinegrove. Cottage well situated and had all we needed. Denise very helpful and welcome pack much appreciated. Would definitely return.
    Mrs Jamieson - May 2016
Delightful and cosy cottage which was extremely welcoming in addition to the attentive personal service from the owner
    Mrs Stevenson - February 2016
    Very cosy cottage
    Mr Davies - October 2015
Extremely cosy cottage. Everything needed is provided for! The location is fairytale-like in the surroundings of 17th century buildings. Dunkeld is a stonesthrow away and gives you everything you''d need! Scotland and especially this part is just THE place to be to have a hide-out from the busy world we live in! Really a cottage to recommend and large enough for a 4 person family!
    Mr Gijsbers - April 2014
Very cosy, well equipped cottage in a quiet setting. Very central for exploring Perthshire and beyond. Lots of great tea shops -particularly enjoyed the Watermill in Blair Atholl and Spill the Beans in Dunkeld. Live traditional music on a Thursday at the Taybank in Dunkeld is fabulous. All in all a wonderful holiday in a stunning location.
    Miss Roberts - April 2014
We had a very enjoyable stay at Pinegrove. Excellent position and very easy to get to all areas of Perthshire and beyond.
    Mrs Gregory - September 2013
Spent a wonderful week in the beautiful cottage. The cottage is extremely well equipped, the owner has thought of everything. Wonderfully cosy and relaxing after spending a day walking or visiting some of the many local attractions. Pinegrove is ideally located to many visitor attractions and local Dunkeld is just wonderful with shops and restaurants. Must recommend Howie's Restaurant and the friendly taxi business in Dunkeld. People very friendly and cottage just gorgeous, hopefully will return. The Anthonys, September 2013.
    Mrs Anthony - September 2013
A beautiful place, with a lot of intentions, gifts for us. The great quality of linens in bedroom is important to say, because after a big walk in Highlands or near the river Tay, it's heaven !!! A real family house.
Mrs Pichol Jankovic - August 2013
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pinegrove Cottage. It is wonderfully well equipped and we were extremely happy while we were there.
    Mrs Holt - June 2013
Lovely stay at Pinegrove. Would book again. The area is so lovely and central. Will be back.
    Mrs Hurst - April 2013
Lovely place Lovely area Great hospitality
    Mr Taylor - March 2013
Very cosy comfortable cottage. Within walking distance of all that Birnam and Dunkeld had to offer. Surrounded by beautiful scenery with many and varied outdoor activities virtually on doorstep. Would definitely stay there again.
    Mr Stratford - February 2013
Pinegrove Cottage was delightful, very well equipped comfortable and warm. The surrounding area is beautiful, especially in Autumn with the leaves changing. There were so many walks to choose from. Dog loved it and so did our little 4 year old boy. On rainy days, there was the Birnam Institute - The Beattrix Potter Exhibition and in Dunkeld the Pottery painting was a real favourite. Soldiers Leap at Killicrankie was great as there was a fantastic childrens nature trail which my little boy found very exciting. Would definitely stay at Pinegrove Cottage again and recommend it to friends.
    Mr Murray - October 2012
Perfect location for a relaxing week of walking and cycling in Perthshire's forests. The cottage is only a 2 minute walk to the path running along the side of the River Tay, and only a 10 minute walk into Dunkeld. All mod cons available in the cottage, very comfortable beds. Adults, child and dog alike had a great week! Highly recommended!
    Mrs Lawie - September 2012
Top rated Cottage, you are given everything you needed and more. Right in the heart of the Highlands so you are able to see everything. Warm and friendly people. All the information that what given to us was great and helped us make our stay even better. Will be tell friends that this is a place to stay when visiting in Scotland.
    Mrs Guillen - August 2012
A lovely cottage in a great location, it has everything that you will need to enable you to enjoy a relaxing break, or to go sightseeing in the surrounding area. nice touches like a bottle of wine, a wee dram, all mod cons and a lovely quiet courtyard, i would definately recommend this cottage and will return again, it is also dog friendly, as is the Birnam Inn across the road. Thanks again for a lovely stay
    Mr Robertson - July 2012
Very much enjoyed our stay - our second visit. Cottage very clean and comfortable, everything we needed provided, with much appreciated extra treats like local wine and biscuits. It was nice to have a good supply of teas and coffees too. Lots to do in the area. We brought our bikes and had several good cycles, but lots of lovely walks too. Also very much enjoyed the river adventure activities based just a few miles away. For a quieter pastime we also made two visits to 'Going Pottie' and spent several happy and relaxing hours pottery painting.
    Mrs Mcphaden - June 2012
We thoroughly enjoyed our second holiday in Pinegrove Cottage. It is a lovely cosy cottage with all local amenities close at hand. We particularly enjoy walking and birdwatching, the area is superb for both.Hopefully we shall visit Dunkeld and Birnam again next year.
    Mrs Barlow - June 2012
We loved this cottage! It was the perfect size for us and our 3 and 4 year olds. It had everything we needed and some lovely treats when we arrived. The decor was lovely and the cottage had a cozy feel to it. The location was excellent and the kids loved the local walks. They have already asked to go back next year!
    Mrs Wright - June 2012
The cottage and area were fantastic. The cottage itself is of a very high standard with lots of provisions for guests. It was very comfortable and very well looked after (only reservation was cream carpets throughout when it allows a dog!!) Birnam and Dunkeld are 2 beautiful little places and we can't recommend highly enough the Birnam Inn, for those who enjoy freshly cooked Italian food and Howies Bistro which was possibly one of the best meals we had! The pork belly was fantastic and my other half would walk back from the Midlands for the lime cheesecake.... The information file in the cottage is priceless with so much to see and do. But the highest form of praise we can give is that we will go back and will probably take parents with us.
    Mr Smart - May 2012
Pinegrove Cottage is a cosy wee house and I felt right at home from the first moments of setting foot over the door. I found the cottage to be clean, beautifully presented and very comfortable. It was well equipped with towels, extra bedding (though this was not needed as the cottage was perfectly cosy), radios, CD player, TV and DVD, and had everything I could have asked for in the kitchen. Additional small touches made it home away from home... selection of games, CD's, movies and some great books. I was provided with a welcome pack, which included some yummy goodies and a bottle of locally produced wine, and a wee dram too! The owner also provided a wealth of information about the local area, including places to shop for groceries, to eat out, for take away, interesting places to visit, local walks... the list goes on. I was so pleased with this cottage and the thought and consideration that has gone into making it the perfect wee base from which to explore the local area and beyond. I travelled by myself and felt relaxed and comfortable throughout my stay. The local area was easily accessible and is beautiful. I explored only a fraction of what is there and would love to return at some point. The local shops, including tourist information are accessible on foot, and there are some lovely gift shops too. The train station is a few minutes’ walk away, and if you have a car there is a wealth of exciting things to do with in a short distance. I have to recommend Highland Fling Bungee... if you feel adventurous that is!
    Miss Craig - May 2012
Lovely cottage, owner had thought of everything from torches in the drawers next to the bed to washing powder should you need to use the washing machine. Excellent base for going out and about, the locals very welcoming and as our first holiday with our dog, it was perfect. My only concern was the cottage had cream carpets - tiles in hall, kitchen and bathroom so after a good days walking i was terrified a bit stray dirt would mark the carpet!
    Mrs Mitchell - March 2012
A lovely welcoming cottage and so handy for the village of Birnam, naturally, but also Dunkeld. Thoroughly relaxing, good facilities.
    Mr Fariclough - December 2011
I had a lovely stay at Pinegrove Cottage. The only comment I would make is that there was no washing powder for the washing machine, no dish cloth and no scourer. We had to go and buy our own. I would have given Pinegrove Cottage a Five star rating had it not been for this little but important oversight.
    Mrs Kanazaki - September 2011
Very comfortable cottage in good central location, lots to do in area within easy reach. Very clean, excellent kitchen facilities, lots of appreciated extras provided eg tea, coffee, local wine etc.
    Mrs Mcphaden - June 2011
Absolutely fantastic value for money, well equipped small cottage with more than a hint of charm and character. The 'concierge' of the neighbours, made us all laugh before we even got the key in the door, so we kind of knew then this was a hidden gem! We will definitely be back, thank you.
    Mrs Birrell - February 2011
