This traditional and delightful little cottage makes the perfect romantic retreat on the Isle of Arran. Within a stone’s throw from the beach this charming and unassuming property offers spectacular uninterrupted views towards the Kintyre Peninsula across the clear cool waters of the Kilbrannan Sound. This is the ideal getaway for couples who enjoy peace and tranquillity, of which the shores of Arran have an abundance.

Poppies lies at the North end of a small village and is an ideal base for those wishing to explore the island by foot or by bike: alternatively, simply sit in the garden with a glass of wine and watch one of the stunning sunset displays on this coast of the island. Ideally suited to a couple plus dog. You are not isolated as there are a couple of neighbouring villages nearby for necessary supplies or indeed a Distillery visit. Made from traditional stone, the accommodation is arranged over two floors and retains cottage-style features such as exposed beams, wooden doors and flooring throughout.

Complimented by neutral and light soft furnishings, it displays a lovely bright and open atmosphere inviting you to relax after a day exploring on the island. The main lounge/dining area has patio doors offering beautiful views of the Sound and leading onto the enclosed private garden, overlooking the Sound with far reaching views towards Kintyre. The bedroom with skylight utilises the whole of the first floor and is spacious with a crisp feel to it. Many a relaxing evening can be spent here soaking up island life, that you may never want to leave.

The island of Arran is only 20 miles in length and 10 miles wide, so being positioned here on the north-west coast of the island means you will be perfectly based to visit some of the best it has to offer. The north displays picturesque villages, deep valleys and forests full of thriving wildlife along with spectacular views of rugged, craggy mountains such as Goatfell. The south of the island has a more gentle landscape with softer rolling valleys, floral meadows and remains of prehistoric ruins.

The village of Lochranza (6.5 miles) is framed by its dramatic mountain backdrop and is classed as one of the most beautiful settings on the island. It is also the home of highly acclaimed and respected Arran's whisky Distillery. Here you can tour the distillery and sample a selection of its finest malts and whisky based liquers. Lochranza is also where you can catch the ferry to explore the other islands and waters around Arran.

Claonaig on the Kintyre Peninsula is a popular island hop for visitors and is a beautiful and scenic ferry ride across the Kilbrannan Sound. It's a small hamlet on the east coast of the Kintyre Peninsula and offers some lovely walking and views of the glorious Arran coastline.

perfect place to stay. Close to the beach and hiking trails with enough privacy to make it feel remote. The cottage is spacious and would allow 2 people comfortably to stay there.

The cottage is well equipped but petit. Being elderly we found the narrow stairs a challenge and being tall the low ceilings upstairs. There was a fault with the heating and we had to wrap up well indoors to keep warm. We had planned to use the nearby Lighthouse restaurant and were disappointed to discover it closed at the end of September. This meRead moreant that we were at least 15 miles from a place to eat. We also did not enjoy the best weather with a mixture of strong winds, heavy rain & low temps. Hide

Poppies is situated in a quiet location with outstanding views. It provides a super, cosy retreat that is perfect for two and has the comfiest bed we have ever had in a holiday property. Although Pirnmill is quite secluded there is a convenient village store and restaurant approximately 1 mile down the road.
