Shepherd's House, Cornescorn located in a remote location at the foot of Glenesk and surrounded by the glorious Angus countryside, has been recently refurbished to the highest standard. The sitting/dining room has been beautifully decorated, with wooden floors, sumptuous soft furnishings and together with a large flat screen TV mounted to the wall above the wood burning stove makes this the ideal room for relaxation or socialising, whilst French doors lead outside to the wonderful views of hills and farmland. The kitchen is well designed and equipped with stylish stainless steel, black and wood finishes, and is perfect for the most discerning cook. The master bedroom is bright and spacious, and benefits from an en-suite shower room which is modern and stylish. A further twin bedroom, again wonderfully comfortable, together with the separate family bathroom means this super cottage can provide flexible accommodation for a holiday party sleeping up to six guests with the use of the sofa bed in the sitting room. The self catering holiday cottage can also be used in conjunction with The Byre Cornescorn which can accommodate up to a further four guests.

Situated at the foot of the Angus Gles walkers will love the area, with walks ranging from gentle low level strolls to the more challenging Munros, ten in total including Dreish, Mayar and Mount Keen. Or head to the sea where beautiful sandy beaches and occasional outcrops of spectacular cliffs make the Angus coastline some of the most spectacular scenery along Scotland's eastern edge with the North Sea. For nature lovers there is the RSPB Nature reserve at Loch of Kinnordy where migrant species provide interest all year round from ospreys in the summer to Whooper swans in the winter, or visit the Montrose Basin where the Nature Reserve provides a perfect habitat for many species of bird. For golfers there are many top class courses in the area including the Championship course at Carnoustie and locally the wonderful Edzell course.

All on ground level:

Sitting/dining room with wood-burning stove, sofa bed and French doors, fully equipped kitchen, master bedroom with ziplink superking/twin bed and en-suite with shower, WC and WHB, twin bedroom, bathroom with shower over bath, WC and WHB.

Please Note:

  • The road up to the cottage is a farm track that is tarred, and can be rough in places. The road is suitable for normal cars (no 4x4 required).

    Shepherds House reviews
We had a fabulous time at the shepherds house. Went to some lovely beaches 20 minutes drive. Cottage very well equipped and well looked after. Owners very accommodating. Beautiful setting with walks from the cottage. Loads of wildlife. Castle Edzell well worth a visit. Panmure arms serves lovely food and very welcoming just a short drive down the hill. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you.
    Mrs Cheney - July 2019
We loved the location. We just wanted to get away from the "Rat race" the noise, the traffic, ice cream vans, dogs barking, seeing other peoples houses, being enclosed on a housing estate etc. What bliss it was to be free from all that for a week. Unfortunately, one week was not long enough. Being able to breath fresh, view the stunning scenery, listen to the birds and more was great. Its my Favourite place and want to return someday.
    Mr Mcmahon - July 2019
Had a relaxing stay close to the nature. Welcoming landlords. Really clean place & well furnished. To recommend.
    Ms Delande - July 2019
Thank you for being so accommodating with last minute bookings for such a lovely set of cottages.
    Dr Barker - September 2018
Yes a bit of a drive down a lane, but so worth it. The property is lovely, spaceous and fitted to a high quality. The owners are friendly as are the sheep and cows. I could get mobile phone signal and the wifi was useful too. We would like to return another year to enjoy tbe beautiful local walks once more. Thank you for a fabulous stay.
    Mrs Howles - August 2018
Beautiful, well appointed bungalow set in a working farm in lovely hilly countryside. Everything we needed was provided along with a useful welcome pack on arrival.
    Mr Januszek - July 2018
A lovely well equipped cottage, set in a stunning location, if you are looking to get away from it all this is the place for you. The house was a great base for walks and exploring the area. Be prepared for a trek to get to the cottage, the 'lane' has definitely suffered due to the weather.
    Mrs Lloyd - March 2018
Loved the area and found Shepherds House beautifully situated and really functional. The scones and jam on arrival were a beautiful surprise and a treat. Peter was very friendly and made us feel really was very friendly and made us feel at home even though this was a busy time for him. The Border Collies were great and to see them work was a treat. My nephew loved the short quad ride and found the sheep shearing very interesting. Walks on the property infinite and so calming and relaxing. We enjoyed every minute and found the time passed too quickly. In the area Edzell castle is worth a visit. The walk along the cliffs from Stonehaven (after the fish and chips at The Bay) to Dunottar Castle beautiful. Lunan Bay is georgeous. We will surely return to the beautiful area and to Shepherds House.
    Miss Bartholomé - August 2017
Unbelievable place up a mountain. If you can find it? You can watch kites and eagles flying around. The property is very high standard but beware you need a four x four to get up the last two miles!! It is mostly dirt track with numerous pot holes which cannot be avoided. If you are happy with that then this is a four star property. The local farmer and owner Pete is on hand every day with the sheep and cattle and is very willing to sort any problems and give information. The local area is picturesque and the architecture is Victorian. Nearby is Montrose with large Tesco etc. Esk and mountains at your feet. Walkers pardise. A complete isolation away from the world as there is no telephone reception but good Wifi.
    Mr Bird - July 2017
We had a wonderful week in this unique place. Beautiful walks up the hills and down to the river, visits to the distillery in Fettercairn, the castle in Edzell, the Glenesk Retreat, and the cathedral in Brechin. The house is very comfortable with stunning views. The remote location attracted us in the first place and it did not disappoint. The family is very friendly. We were invited to watch the sheep shearing and our son was given a ride on the quad with one of the farmers. These were real highlights for our children. We would love to come back.
Mr Van Lenteren - July 2017
Great location, by river and hills. Accommodation is first class and the owners could not be more helpful. We will definitely return again.
    Mr Baxter - August 2015
Shepherds Cottage deserves five star rating for accommodation alone, four star rating is because of poor road surface on private road to cottage. This said we shall certainly return and will recommend to family and friends.
