Summer Cottage is adjacent to Point House Cottage and forms the third side of a grassed courtyard at Point House, Kings Cross.

This is a recently refurbished and extended self catering holiday cottage and is set in 7 acres of secluded lawns and woodlands at Kings Cross point between the villages of Lamlash and Whiting Bay and 7 miles from the ferry terminal at Brodick.

Access is by private road and there are ample parking places and safe play areas for children.

A footpath leads from the cottage down to the shore where there are 2 sheltered bays (1 shingle and 1 shingle & sand) with rock pools. A large grassy area by the shore is ideal for ball games and there are several delightful walks in the locality. The views from the shore are spectacular, looking north to Lamlash and the Goat Fell mountain range and east to Holy Isle with its lighthouse.

This cottage is all on one level and has been designed for two adults and two children.

The cottage faces south and has been constructed with raised beamed ceilings to give a light and airy feel. The lounge/dining area is open plan with an integral conservatory which leads out onto a secluded patio with garden furniture.

The lounge has a cottage suite, flat screen TV with Freeview. The fitted kitchen is complete with electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher and microwave.

The master double bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with bath, toilet and wash hand basin.

A second small bedroom with bunks (suitable only for children) is adjacent to a shower room with toilet and wash hand basin.

The cottage was very comfortable and in a beautiful situation. Access to the local wild beach was a particular bonus and delight. We enjoyed everything we did on Arran and hope to return.
    Mr Calcutt - June 2019
Enjoyed a super holiday in Summer Cottage, despite access down a twisty narrow lane. The cottage had everything we needed, was quiet, light and airy with walking access down to the shore and joining the coastal footpath. Our hosts were very welcoming and helpful with advice on places to visit and eat on the island. We were fortunate enough to have perfect weather and the countryside looked absolutely lovely covered in bluebells and wild garlic. Brodick Castle was a good visit, with its beautiful grounds and vistas. Enjoyed hearing the cuckoo!
    Mr Kendrew - May 2019
Very friendly owners with good basic accommodation.
    Mr Merrifield - May 2019
We absolutely loved our stay at Summer Cottage. The location, the view, the beach... simply stunning. The cottage is superbly equipped and had everything we needed. Even a dishwasher :)! Hosts were also lovely and gave us great tips on what to see and do on beautiful Arran. We will definitely be back!
    Mr Wedekind - April 2019
Lovely cottage and an ideal location for exploring Arran. Less than 15 minutes drive from Brodick, Summer Cottage was well equipped, nice and cosy and comfortable. The very friendly owners were on-site to greet us and explain how everything worked in the property and did occasionally pop by to see that all was well. The large double bedroom had an en-suite bathroom and the large sitting area with conservatory was a pleasant space to be in - we even had a red squirrel run across the roof! Only slight criticism would be the second bedroom as our boys (aged 12 and 14) were a bit big for the bunk beds, but if you are coming with younger children or as a couple then Summer Cottage makes an ideal base for discovering the wonderful Isle of Arran.
    Mr Pressly - April 2019
Cottage lovely - very cosy, light, very well-equipped. A very short walk to the sea (overlooking Holy Island) and the coastal path. 30 mins walk along it to Whiting Bay. Nothing too much trouble for the owners next door and lots of helpful advice. We would definitely stay here again. We loved Arran, particularly seeing an otter very close, seals, Brodick castle (particularly the adventure playground and fairy trail), walking to the standing stones, Lamlash Coast centre (a must), mountain biking, heritage museum. We'll definitely go again.
    Mrs Elam - April 2019
We had a great time staying at summer cottage. The location was perfect, only 10 mins drive to Brodick, less to Whiting bay & Lamlash but felt a million miles away as was so peaceful and quiet. Beautiful views from beach at the bottom of the garden & a great place for kids to paddle in clear lovely water. The cottage itself was well accommodated, comfortable beds, good shower (as well as bath which was handy with kids). The conservatory got very hot but we enjoyed it by keeping the door to patio open. Definitely would love to come back. The family in the house adjoining have been coming in the sunmer for 30 years, which tells you how special the place is. Thanks for a lovely stay.
    Mrs Shields - July 2018
We had such a wonderful stay at Summer Cottage. The accommodation is comfortable and pretty, with a beautiful sun lounge. The outdoor space is gorgeous, and extremely well-maintained by Mrs Haddow. We were made so welcome and no attention was spared. Lots of helpful little extra touches in the cottage. Many thanks for a fantastic holiday.
    Ms Wilson - June 2018
This is a fantastic cottage. It is a couple minutes walk to a tranquil quiet beach with a view over to the Holy Isle. It is very well located being between Whiting Bay and Lamlash, but it is very easy to drive around the island to other places. You can walk from the cottage to Lamlash or Whiting Bay along the coast. The owners are there when you arrive to answer any questions and very helpful. The living area is very light and bright as has a conservatory attached. It is exceptionally quiet here, so well worth visiting if you are looking to escape the hustle of life!
    Mrs Taylor - May 2018
We loved summer cottage and have already booked for next year. The setting is beautiful and a short stroll downhill is a sand and shingle beach. There is also a nice private terrace with bbq outside which we made full use of. The cottage itself is lovely and is very clean. The owners Margaret and Bob who live onsite are also lovely and are a good source of local knowledge if required. We ate in Whiting bay a few times at Coast which was nice but a little pricey and the coffee pot is great for a lunch as the food is good quality and reasonably priced. We often walked in and back using the costal path which was nice. In whiting bay itself the coffee pot and bay view stores (which does a nice coffee) is useful to get wifi as the mobile signal is poor which didnt bother us but as long as our 16 year old had an hour or so on the wifi daily he was happy. There are so many lovely walks in the local area and I suggest getting a walking guide from the tourist info at brodick. We love Arran and this accomodation made our holiday just perfect. Looking forward to returning next year
    Mrs Hendrie - May 2018
We had a lovely time at summer cottage. The property was spotlessly clean, the owners friendly and helpful and the location wonderful with access to beach and coastal path at bottom of property. We had everything we needed in the property and enjoyed our stay on beautiful Arran very much indeed.
    Mrs Pye - October 2017
Lovely cottage in great setting just 10 minutes walk from beach and coastal path. Short drive to lamlash and whiting bay. Well equipped. Only downside was the bunk beds - our 4 and 6 year olds slept here but neither would sleep on top as the safety bar only came down just past pillow level. It's a relatively low bunk but we ended up with matress on floor for this reason. If replaced with bunk with safety bar we would definitely visit again.
    Mrs Mackay - September 2017
Lovely home from home in a great location.
    Ms Anderson - September 2017
Great location with direct beach access, immaculate, lovely light airy living area. Owners very helpful.
    Mrs Cowie - April 2017
Great base, super location. Facilities at the cottage were very good and the people around very helpful. Good value break, will book again.
    Mr Hall - July 2016
A great cottage in a nice location. Just the ideal size, in good condition and well equipped. Owners were friendly and helpful.
    Mr Stubbs - June 2016
Really enjoyed a week at Summer Cottage and the sunshine helped us get out on the bikes and tackle the circular route round the Ross Road with lunch at the Lagg Inn which was one of the many first class meals we enjoyed. Felicity's, Glenisle, Achrannie and Stag Pavilion are some of the fine dining locations with three in walking distance at Whiting Bay. Two weeks would have been better.
    Mr Todd - May 2016
A lovely cottage and garden, everything we needed.
    Mrs Burgess - July 2015
Great location 10 minutes from Brodick in between Lamlash and Whiting Bay. You do need to drive down quite a long country road to get to it so a car is a must if you have young kids. Driving up to the cottage was quite a disappointment. I don't know if it's just because there is a lot of work going on at the moment but there is an old caravan, an old sink and a lot of other rubbish lying around. I chose the location because i though there would be lots of space for my young child to run around but it would not have been safe to let him out there. However when we discovered the land at the front where there is a private garden with a beach this is absolutely beautiful and a great space for kids. The cottage itself is fine. Quite old fashioned but has everything you need. only complaint would be the chairs are quite old and uncomfortable, i would have liked a nice comfy couch for in front of the tv in the evening. Mrs Haddow was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. Just some small changes to make the living area more comfortable and to tidy up the garden area and make it more welcoming would make a big difference.
Owners Response: "Thank you for your review. Due to work being carried out on a new sun porch at the front of Point House we thought we were doing the guests a favour by suggesting they used our private pathway past our own house and down to the shore. This pathway goes over a rough piece of ground where we store firewood and burn leaves and branches and is not normally in use for our guests. The pathway also leads to what they call an "old" caravan and a green ceramic wash hand basin waiting to be planted up with flowers. Also the piece of ground adjacent to the back door of Summer Cottage is approximately 8 metres x 9 metres and surely large enough for a young child to run around in under supervision. We are glad you enjoyed your holiday giving it 4 stars overall."
    Mr Morgan - April 2015
9 and 8 year old children, rocky beach access with crystal clear water. Whiting bay and Lamlash on either side. Went to Majorca last year. Children want to go to Arran next year. Me too. Most relaxing holiday ever.
    Mr Mullan - July 2014
Excellent cottage (barn conversion?) for two. Fitted out and equipped to a high standard on the west side of a grassy courtyard surrounded by other rental accommodation and the owner's home. In a quiet rural location close to Whiting Bay and a short walk to the shore with great views of Holy Isle and back towards Lamlash. Although there is a second bedroom with bunk beds it would probably only be suitable for children of Primary School age as it is quite small. Our acid test of any accommodation is "Would we go back again ?" and in this case we most definitely would.
Mr And Mrs Kay - June 2014
The accommodation was homely, clean, bright and airy. The owners were friendly and helpful. The cottage is in a lovely spot with the shore line just a few minutes walk away. The views over to Lamlash and Holy Island are splendid. Great walk from cottage over to Whiting Bay up on the tops and along the beach. A great holiday and would definitely visit Arran again.
    Mrs Allen - August 2013
Lovely little barn conversion with conservatory, just not on 5 star with the following, kids room with bunk beds just a little small for two strapping nine year olds. Hot water on a timer in the kitchen suppose for electric charges, didnt dare change setting so no baths midday, but no multipoint boiler. Probably due to no mains gas being on the island. Accommodation was clean and to a high standard. Kitchen was very well equipped with dish washer, washing machine etc no dryer but use of a communal green. Summer cottage has a little patio with a table, chairs and a BBQ. Fantastic for kids in that we could leave them to roam the 4 acres at will in safety. No WiFi within locality, but a good range of terrestrial tv channels available. All in all would return tomorrow, and probably will next year......guess that says it all.
Owners Response: "Unfortunately we cannot make the kids room any larger.   I would like to note that the washing machine has a dryer incorporated and all the instruction manuals are in a folder in the cottage. Also it is very simple to adjust the water heater to run 24 hours and the instructions are on the time clock."
    Mrs Mackay - July 2012
A great wee cottage just a minutes walk down to two lovely quiet pebble bays with calm waters and gorgeous views. We spent almost every day there at some point with our children who loved it. The cottage itself was clean, bright and deceptively spacious although the second bedroom was pretty small with only a bedside table and the bunks really only suitable for young children but that was fine for us. Good to have two bathrooms and the hall for wet jackets/boots/bikes.The kitchen was well equipped and the living/dining room had plenty of space for all of us and access to a small patio with bbq which we used most days. The only thing i'd prefer would be a regular couch rather than the cane one. Kings Cross is just residential but there's a nice footpath to Whiting Bay, although a bit far there and and back for little legs. Whiting Bay itself is quiet which we like but has everything you need. There's a swing park, small putting green and notice board showing upcoming events in the village. Great walks in the forest too. We had lunch at Coast which was excellent and has an outside eating area and conservatory overlooking the beach. If you are looking for good value, peace and quiet and don't mind a wee walk or drive to the village, this cottage is ideal.
    Mrs Wallace - July 2012
We really liked the cottage, particularly the light open lounge area which has been beautifully converted. The cottage is located at the end of a track and so is really quiet and the Kings Cross peninsular area was great to explore with lovely views. The only down side was the small bedroom with bunk beds. The room would be suitable for young children, but was too small and uncomfortable for my partners twins of twelve. Apart from that we would thoroughly recommend it.
    Ms Wallis - April 2012
Well equiped, and maintained. It would be handy to have a few basic provisions in the kitchen, tomato sauce, sugar, jam, toilet roll, just things people leave that will keep. But a very enjoyable stay.
    Dr Cashley - March 2012
We have just returned from our week's stay in 'Summer Cottage' at Kings Cross Point. The cottage is at the very end of the road, down a private drive and is situated just 2 minutes walk from the beach via a private wooded path. The cottage is very homely, spacious and modern, with everything we needed to enjoy a comfortable stay (even down to the electric blanket on the bed!) We would definately stay here again. Thank you :)
    Miss Penrose - September 2011
The set-up was excellent for us - two grandparents + two young children, esp. the 2 bathrooms and room to play both inside and out. On sunny days the main room could get very hot. Would definitely consider using it again.
    Mr Gwynne - July 2011
This feedback is for Summer Cottage, Kings Cross, Isle of Arran. We stayed from 29th June till 4th July 2015. (not as per your email!!). We are grandparents and two grandchildren aged 8 and 11 and the cottage ( where we have stayed twice before) suits us admirably, especially the two bathrooms, one en-suite and one nearly so! . The area is quiet and the cottage has private access to the shore. The owners live on site and are very friendly, but don't bother you. The last bit of un-made-up road is a bit rough and, like anywhere else on Arran, you have to take suitable precautions against the midges!!
    Mr Gwynne
