If you are looking for somewhere a little out of the ordinary to stay, then take a look at the quirky Tangle Tower. The building - once known as 'The Watchtower' during the Victorian era - has been used as both an observation tower during the War and a Coastguard station, where boats were launched right out of what is now the kitchen straight into the sea. Located in South Kessock, on the shore of the Moray Firth at Inverness, the property has been lovingly renovated to a high standard with careful consideration being taken to preserve some of the original features. The names of those who have worked here in the past have been painted on to the walls in the stairway so that they can be remembered forevermore in this building that is rich with history. The kitchen and upstairs lounge area have beautiful large windows that allow you to take in the astonishing views of the Moray Firth and the Kessock Bridge. The lounge can be transformed into a bedroom with the sofa bed if you require a property that sleeps six in total.

Tangle Tower has a large enclosed garden that you are sure to spend most of your time in. Even the fencing around the property has been carefully selected to ensure that nothing spoils the sea views that make this property stand out from the rest. Dolphins can be spotted across the firth leaping out of the water, and seals often bathe in the sun just 50 yards or so from the perimeter fence in the garden; there is something magical about seeing these beautiful animals in their natural habitat, and it's even more special when you can see all of this from the comfort of an armchair. You can watch our fantastic video tour of Tangle Tower on our Youtube channel.

Tangle Tower is ideally placed for those who wish to leave the car at home and visit Inverness,on public transport. The property is just a 5 minute walk from local amenities and there is a bus stop right outside the Tower that can take you in to the city, which is just 2 miles away (making it easily walkable!). Inverness has many shops, restaurants and bars to explore, so you won't be short of places to visit during your holiday. There are also many historical castles and places of interest to see within Inverness and the surrounding area - of course, a trip to the Highlands is not complete without a hunt for Nessie at the infamous Loch Ness, which is a 20 minute drive away by car. Inverness is also home to Eden Court Theatre, The Ironworks music venue and a cinema, and many festivals and events take place in and around the city throughout the year. There is plenty to do in the Highland capital, so book Tangle Tower as your base for your Scottish holiday today!

If you are looking for somewhere that is pet friendly which is equally as stylish as this, please see this owners other property, Evelix, in nearby Muir of Ord, here.

    Tangle Tower reviews
Wunderbares Ferienhaus, liebevoll und mit dem Blick für das Detail renoviert. Hervorragende und hochwertige Ausstattung. Außergewöhnliche Lage mit unverbautem Blick auf das Wasser. Thank you very much for the delicious lemon cake :) TRANSLATION: Wonderful holiday home, lovingly renovated with the eye for detail. Excellent and high-quality equipment. Exceptional location with unobstructed views of the water.
    Mrs Kohler-knopp - August 2019
Tangle tower is an amazing property on the beach in Inverness, it had everything I wanted except dolphins and an elevator to the top floor. If you are looking for a city holiday with a coast feel then this is the place for you. Inverness is a short drive form the property, or you could just stay at home and admire the view. Panoramic views of the Moray firth from every floor with binoculars and telescopes as part of the rental. The property also has wi-fi. The only drawback with the property is the price, this week was a treat for me and my husband but I don't think our budget would allow us to return.
    Mr Airey - June 2019
Excellent and very comfortable accommodation, with everything done to a very high standard. A beautiful and very thoughtful conversion. We also loved the maritime theme which reflects the tower's former role. The views are beyond amazing - even better than anticipated. It was great to have the top floor room for an even better vantage point! If the weather had been better we would have taken full advantage of the terrace and garden. Cherry was very friendly and helpful. One of the best places we have stayed in.
    Mrs Mellor - September 2018
We spent a wonderful time at the Tangle Tower. We felt immediately at home . To wake up every morning with this view on the sea, perfect.
    Mrs Jaeggi - June 2018
A new area of Scotland for us to explore and we weren't short of things to do - Culloden, Cawdor, Cromarty, Dornoch, Glen Affric and the amazing bookstore in Inverness plus a good arts centre. This was just a start, there was plenty more. Tangle Tower was an ideal base, well designed, facing out on the Beauty and Moray Firths, the water literally lapping against our terrace at high tide. Generous parking and outside storage space. There were walks direct from the house along the coast line, through the nature reserve, across the Caledonian canal and to the friendly pub in a neighbouring village. The quality of furnishings was excellent, the top floor viewing room a real magnet. Our only suggestions for improvement were the provision of either a second bathroom [or at least a separate lavatory], hanging space for the first floor bedroom, and a better fridge design. Our link person was very responsive and matters were dealt with in a prompt and friendly fashion.
    Mrs Cotgrove - June 2018
What a wonderful place to stay! Superb views across the Beauly Firth - saw dolphins and otters from the house! Incredibly cozy and comfortable! Will definitely be back!
    Mrs Horne - October 2017
Stunning property and views, lovely welcome basket of goodies. Wildlife out of the window. Some fishing gear would be great for some. Lovely walks nearby. All that was missing was a cosy pub within walking distance. We didn't want to leave
    Mrs Simmons - September 2017
Felt we had a very relaxing stay and were truly refreshed after only five days.Warm and comfortable with amazing views of the firth.Read about Tangle Tower in the Scots Magazine
    Mrs Ferbrache - September 2017
Tangle Tower is a beautifully renovated property with a stunning view of the Kessock Bridge and we enjoyed sitting in the 'observation' lounge on the second floor watching the goings on and the bird life on the Moray Firth. We really appreciated the binoculars, scope, bird books and the local maps. We had everything we needed in the house for a comfortable week's stay and communication with the owner and the key pick-up process was smooth. It is about a 30 minute walk or a short drive to the centre of Inverness (there is also a bus stop close to the property) but we chose the location as a convenient base from which to tour the Highlands and in addition to the nearby Loch Ness area, we visited the Cairngorms, the Black Isle and even the West coast during our stay.
    Mrs Hagan - August 2017
A beautiful house, well equipped and Very homely. Amazing views of Kessock Bridge and the Beauly Firth from the windows. Watched Dolphins,Seals,Herons and Sea Otters from the watchtower. Having the large enclosed garden, patio and triple garage is a real bonus. Ideally situated for Inverness and touring the Highlands.
    Mr Ennis - August 2017
We really enjoyed our peaceful stay. The views are incredible. The furnishings first class. Little extras like binoculars and bird books were great too.
    Mrs Anderson - July 2017
The ambience of this unique property contributed 100% to our enjoyable stay - the house is very comfortably furnished with a relaxing colour scheme influenced by the wonderful views over the ever-changing water scene and totally fulfilled our expectations. Would have given 5* if there was another toilet but being a couple it suited us perfectly well. It is situated in a very quiet non-through road and very easy to get out of Inverness without going through the heavy city traffic. It is well placed for exploring Northern Scotland and we achieved our long awaited goal of visiting John O'Groats and Dunnet Head quite easily on a long day trip; the Western Highlands to Gairloch was a memorable experience besides exploring the easily accessible local areas of the Moray Firth and the Black Isle with their small harbour towns and villages.
    Mrs Redgrave - August 2016
Beautifully renovated house with lovely welcome pack provided. Located close to Inverness town centre and convenient to all major attractions. We were lucky to spot a dolphin swimming in the firth one morning, while we were sat at the kitchen table. Amazing dolphin and seal sightings at Chanonry Point too. All in all, a lovely stay, thank you.
    Mrs Baird - August 2016
This property has been refurbished to a very high standard with a stunning settling overlooking the 'firth'. Would definitely return to this property.
