This superb architect designed house is styled on the traditional Scottish long house which fits beautifully into the landscape of this unusual and dramatic glen. The internal feel is one of light and space, warmth and cosiness with white walls, solid wooden floors and ceramics giving a contemporary look. To the rear, the house is T shaped with a timber clad wing with large double height windows overlooking a slate patio which offers private and secluded outdoor living and dining space with extensive views of the glen. The hub of the house is open plan with fully fitted kitchen and dining area, with steps down to a full height vaulted living area with sofas and armchairs and wood burning stove. Built with a family in mind, this has become the heart and focal point of this stunning holiday home. The first floor is reached from the hall via stairs to a balcony with additional informal seating from which to admire the surrounding countryside. Sleeping accommodation is situated at either end of the house on both levels. The ground floor rooms have windows to the side and front with views of the glen, whilst the first floor rooms have Velux roof and glen facing windows. The master king size room upstairs and double room downstairs are both en-suite. There is a bathroom on the ground floor and an additional toilet upstairs.

Taobh an Uillt is built to a very high specification and has considered the environment during the process. It is extremely well insulated and efficiently heated, getting the heating and hot water from an air source heat pump. Whatever the time of year, whatever the weather, this house provides the perfect setting for a family holiday or group of friends.

    Taobh an Uillt reviews
We had a great stay here for 4 nights in June to celebrate a family birthday. The house was lovely, had a well equipped kitchen and wonderful garden space. The Faerie Glen is just 10 minutes walk away which was convenient. The only suggestion was perhaps to be provided with a few extra towels. We would recommend this place and hope to stay there again soon in the future!
    Dr Archibald - June 2019
We greatly enjoyed our stay at Taobh an Uillt. The cottage is beautiful, and the view is incredible. Several evenings we BBQed (Lamb, Salmon, Beef) products which we picked up in Portree. We were two couples, thus had lots of space to spread out. We would highly recommend this property.
    Ms Bourden - June 2019
The house was the perfect place to stay. It's not only located in a beautiful spot but it also offers all amentities we could hope for. Communication with the caretaker went well. we stayed for five days and enjoyed every single day! The location allows quick access to some of Skyes northern highlights, such as the Quiraing, The Old Man of Storr and - of course - the nearby Fairy Glen (best to be visited at night when the tourist crowds have fled). The house itself is outstanding in its design, e.g. the grand view from the living room. Another benefit is the layout with many bedrooms an attached bathrooms. A good thing to have when staying with many people! However, not everything is perfect about the place: there are many minor things in the house which could be improved/fixed: week door handles which almost seem to come off, doors scratching the wooden floor. The owner was very helpful when we asked for a new cafetière which was found broken upon our arrival. All in all it was a real pleasure staying in the house and enjoying the views & and we'd definitely come back for another visit. To be recommended!
    Mr Schlindwein - June 2019
The Taobh an Uillt House was absolutely lovely. There were six adults, and the three spacious and comfortable bedrooms were great. There were two bedrooms upstairs, sharing a full bathroom. Downstairs were two bathrooms, one was an ensuite with a shower, the other a full bathroom with a tub, off the hall. The living area and kitchen were spacious and so well stocked with everything we needed to cook meals. There was a dishwasher and a full laundry facility. The two story windows and the cathedral ceiling over this whole area were stunning. Magnificent views. It is right near the Fairy Glen, so a beautiful area to walk. It is in the countryside in a farming community, with lots of great views. The sheep were everywhere, and in May the lambs were bounding about. Nearby is the small town of Uig, and it has a nice restaurant on the outskirts, and in town a grocery and pottery shop, as well as shops for the locals' needs. The wharf is interesting and the ferry links you with the Hebrides, if you wish to go. We kicked back and relaxed. We spent a day driving on a loop north and visited the Crofters' Village, a well preserved group of croft homes with lots of interesting artifacts. Another day we went to Portree and looped another set of roads, stopping where we wished. It was a great central location. The only thing I would do to improve the stay, would be to stay longer!!
    Ms Weber - May 2019
Nice welcome mail from Ishbel with a lot of ideas for activities. The house was fully equipped and very cosy. A wonderful view from the living area and terrace.
    Mr Jaeger - April 2019
We cannot fault our stay the cottage was clean well maintained and the perfect size for our family stay to celebrate our daughters wedding in Fairy Glen. The scenery is magnificent all around, and so quiet in the evening
    Mr Horsley - April 2019
There were seven of us including my daughter who is in a wheelchair. We were aware of the short staircase from the kitchen to the living area before we arrived. There were enough of us such that this was not a problem, but clearly not everybody would be able to deal with this. Outside of this item, chair access around the rest of the house couldn`t be better. We all loved the house, its position and its location above Uig. We left a list of some things that needed addressing, all of a minor nature. The list was left in the spirit of hoping we were helping the owner by pointing them out. The Uig pottery down near the pier was worth a visit. The products were a cut above what we expected. It was our first time on Skye and we loved it and the house.
    Mr Gerard - December 2018
Had a great stay. House was amazing, spent a lot of time looking out the windows. Fairy Glen was a two minute walk away which was great.
    Mrs Mackay - November 2018
This house is amazing from its value to its comfort. Along with having your home with you, you get amazing views both day and night. There was a great welcome from the cattle in the field and a very helpful owner/ caretaker on hand. We had an amazing time and house made it mark.
    Miss Hartill - November 2018
A well equipped house with plenty of room in a lovely location. Couldn't fault it.
    Mr Macleman - September 2018
The house is absolutely excellent: well fitted out and extremely comfortable. The location is excellent for touring the north of Skye and it is in easy access of a number of Skye's sites. A beautiful house
    Mr Maclean - September 2018
Fantastic property overall. Excellent accommodation and well appointed kitchen. A few maintenance snags that needed attention
    Mrs Wilson-law - August 2018
A wonderful holiday that all my family thourghly enjoyed. The only feedback we would give is both outside bins were full on arrival. The recycling instructions were also not clear as to when to put the large outside bins out for collection.
    Mr Downie - July 2018
Loved the house & loved Skye We were lucky with the weather as it was sunshine every day The house was very well equipped and we wanted for nothing
    Ms Lanigan - June 2018
This house didn't disappoint from a stunning location to a well designed layout the house was perfect for our holiday. It was a bonus to discover that we were within walking distance of the fairy glen and it was lovely to be in the middle of nature. The layout of the house was lovely and everything was spotlessly clean when we arrived. Instructions were all good and process from entry to exit very easy
    Mrs Aron - June 2018
We recently enjoyed a short break in this lovely house. We were a group of 7 and there was more than enough space for us all. The house was very modern and had everything we needed. The setting was very peaceful with surrounding farm animals and just a short walk from Fairy Glen. It was a good base for exploring Skye with many beautiful drives nearby. The garden was also perfect for enjoying lots of BBQs. We bought amazing, fresh seafood from the Oyster Shed in Carbost and explored most of the beautiful island.
Mr And Mrs Hart - May 2018
Absolutely fantastic location, amazing house. Very roomy and comfortable with great facilities. Slight let down - downstairs double bed was not very comfy (mattress was quite thin and the bed not very big); cooker could have done with a clean together with the baking trays that went inside. Otherwise a marvellous place to stay and would definitely go again.
    Mrs Mason - December 2017
I stayed at Taobh an Uillt for 3nights as a surprise break for my 77year old mum and her 78year old partner. Communication from Ishbel in the run up to our stay was exemplary as there had been a couple of issues (sorted prior to our arrival). The house was easy to find and the location perfect to explore Skye for a couple of days. All the house manuals/instructions were handy as/when needed and everything worked perfectly. The house is warm and friendly with lots of available entertainment options (not that we needed any) and the kitchen is extremely well stocked with equipment and supplies. and most importantly my mum and her partner loved it!! We could all have stayed longer. Thank you.
    Mr Mckendrick - November 2017
Lovely property but unfortunately there had been a bad leak just before we arrived ( the owner did make us aware and offer refund etc ) . Great location for walking our dog , although Skye is pretty much shut for activities after mid October .
    Mr Purcell - October 2017
Superb modern split level house in superb setting, plenty room for 7 adults and a small child, well appointed and all the amenities you may need to be self catering. A 15/20 min walk into the village of Uig. Enclosed garden was great so the wee one could run around at will. Some great scenery and driving roads. Would highly recommend Neist point, Fairy pools, Staffin Bay, the quirang and the road to Elgol, Fairy Glen is only a 5 minute walk along the road. The Ferry inn, Uig was great, food was first class so booking is a must.
    Mr Tennant - July 2017
We came up to Skye for a walking holiday with friends. The weather forecast was terrible all week, but most days it was wrong and we were able to get out without getting wet. The house is great for a group visit as all but one of the bedrooms has its own en suit. It is also very well equipped and has lovely views out of the huge lounge windows. We mainly self catered, but wanted fish and chips on our last night. We found a fish and chip 'shop' tucked away on the driveway of a B&B overlooking the harbour in Uig! The fish and chips were very good so look out for the board on the roadside. Our time was spent mostly walking but we had a good day out at Dunvegin Castle where we saw lots of seals. We then drove to the Coral beach, stopping on route to watch a pair of red throated divers. By the time we reached the beach the sun was out and so we're the seals, maybe 30 of them all very close to the beach playing, jumping and generally performing for us. Brilliant!
    Mrs Jessop - June 2017
We enjoyed an amazing 4 night stay here! The house is amazing, the location is beautiful, and we had an all round wonderful time here. I would highly recommend this house to anyone and would we will return for sure. The rooms are spacious and modern, and beds very comfy! The cupboards were left with a basic supply which came in handy when we had forgotten about a few things!
    Miss Turner - May 2017
Lovely house in an excellent location for exploring Skye. We had everything we needed and were warm and comfortable in very spacious accommodation. Once we figured out how to turn the noisy heat recovery system (or remembered about the instructions) it was perfect. Rooms were well equipped and very comfortable. Would highly recommend this property and indeed Skye for a visit.
    Mrs Heggie - April 2017
Excellent decor, well thought out, best holiday let we've had to date, and to top it all only a five minute walk to the fairy glen, which we walked to every day with the dogs, the perfect way to start and end your day with breath taking scenery. The house itself is in a great location to tour any part of the island, we toured from the north right down to Elgol in the south.
    Mrs Fraser - February 2017
We had a lovely family break - 2 adults & 2 teenagers. Taobh an Uillt is within close walking distance of the magical Fairy Glen and being just over a mile from Uig village makes it a great base for day trips around Skye. We really enjoyed the house which is wonderfully bright and really nicely furnished. Lovely views out over the glen and hill opposite. Had everything needed for a really happy holiday - the kitchen was fun to cook in, the beds were comfy and the teenagers enjoyed the wifi! The autumn sun came out letting us see all the stunning views and colours. We spent an afternoon at Dunvegan Castle and very much enjoyed walking around the gardens. Lunch at the Oyster Shed at Carbost was excellent. The Quiraing walk was fun and the views amazing. A very successful holiday, thank you.
    Mrs Cox - October 2016
    very clean and new
    Miss Wang - May 2016
We enjoyed a 3 night Spring break at Taobh an Uillt. The house is lovely with a great open aspect to the hills and fields of North West Skye. The house is clean and so very well equipped. The owners have given great thought and gone to tremendous lengths to ensure visitors have everything they need during their stay. They provided excellent information in advance about the house and things to do, including lovely coastal walks, in North West Skye. The bedrooms and toilets were all clean and well decorated and the main living area, which is split level and contains a spacious lounge with a cooking and dining area on the upper level. The weather wasn't warm enough for us to sit out, but the patio, just outside the large glass sliding doors, looked like a lovely place to enjoy the outdoors and those fantastic views.
    Mr Clarke - April 2016
This holiday house is one of the best we have stayed in. Great location and the house itself was very well equipped and very spacious. We hope we will back in the future.
    Mrs Conn - March 2016
Wonderful holiday with plenty of room for two families, great location with lots of fantastic walks. Very helpful owner and extremely well equipped kitchen. Would definately go back.
    Mrs Allan - December 2015
This is a super new build and incredibly comfortable building for 8 adults to holiday in a great location! 4 couples from 1 family found this house big enough to relax in with different areas to sit in and relax, cook etc! Nearby, Fairy Glen is a lovely walk up the road and the Oyster Shed nearby is so good for fish! On Skye, Kinloch Lodge for lunch is to die for! So many fantastic walks! Brilliant week!
    Mrs Shaw - August 2015
This is an excellent property in a superb spot. There was nothing we didn't like about it. Very comfortable, everything worked a superb house which we want to return to next year.
    Mr Hinchliff - July 2015
Professional yet personal experience from start to finish. We found everything we could have hoped for and more at Taobh an Uillt. The attention detail is fantastic, from architectural design right down to a dedicated first aid drawer and toy Nurse ! There is so much to do and see in the Northern half of Skye, including coastal walks past Flora MacDonald visitors centre and burial site, a short and manageable hike up the path of Old Man of Storr. We visited Kilt Rock before driving North 20 mins for coffee and scones at The Flodigarry Hotel. Eating out we tried Marmalade restaurant in Portree which was simple and tasty with a large garden for the kids to enjoy. If fresh seafood is your bag, we recommend the Oyster Shed at Carbost, up the hill from Talisker Distillery. We tried fresh lobster, crab claws and linguisitines - delicious!! It's take away but there is a sheltered area with picnic benches and more incredible views to take in as you enjoy your food and contemplate your next steps. Our three young girls particularly enjoyed the two fairy sites on Skye. For the believers out there a trip to Glen Brittle provides you with an opportunity to plunge into one of the many Fairy Pools along the valley floor. Be warned, it's not the Mediterranean !! Of course no trip to Taobh an Uillt would be complete without a short walk along the road to "Fairy Glen" which looks like it could have been the inspiration for Peter Jacksons "The Shire" from the Hobbit movies. An opportunity to leave a shiny coin and make a wish was to much for even the adults to resist !! A great trip, and we will definitely be returning to this holiday let and Skye at the next opportunity.
    Mr Russell - July 2015
