With us 30 years, The Bard is a traditional pine-panelled Scottish cottage in a peaceful rural setting with uninterrupted mountain views. There is ample parking space enclosed within its garden fence and it is conveniently located with shops and a railway station only two miles away, making it the perfect self catering holiday cottage for those wishing to explore the delights of Sutherland.

The charming self catering cottage is within reach of golf courses at Bonar Bridge, Tain, Dornoch, Golspie and Brora, in addition to some great walking country and many sandy beaches. Trout fishing is available on various local lochs and a two rod salmon beat can be taken with the cottage depending on availability.

Sitting room with open fire, dining room, kitchen, cloakroom with WC, WHB and shower.

    The Bard reviews
All three of us (couple and dog!) love staying here. No posh furniture to worry about, just comfort and peace in beautiful surroundings
    Mrs Goldfinch - July 2018
The Bard is located approximately 2.5 miles from Bonar Bridge amongst a scattering of farmsteads and other holiday cottages but with enough distance between each to give adequate privacy. The pictures on the website do not compliment the spaciousness and character of the property. However I would strongly suggest that the owners upgrade the lounge furniture as it's definitely seen better days and also invest in a better television as the one supplied is no better than a 17 inch PC monitor. I would also suggest the provision of a small dvd library...if there was one I couldn't find it. Overall a true 'getting away from it all experience'. As a footnote we took a flight from Stansted to Edinburgh Airport and hired a car from there. It's a 3.5 hour drive from there to the cottage.
    Mr Sawyer - March 2016
Where do I begin , first impress was what an amazing place , the cottage was lovely and warm, all modern amenities, very clean and tidy . Instant hot water was a great surprise too. Looking out of rear windows we saw roe deer on two mornings and sika hind on another, out of front window you can see and hear Red deer on the hill. A short stroll and you are on the banks of the most beautiful river ever, teaming with lots of jumping salmon we were luckily enough to witness. We cannot wait to get there again next year
    Mr Marlow - October 2015
We really enjoyed our stay at the Bard. It was most comfortable and warm with everything we needed. It was wonderful to have wifi in the house in order to keep in contact with the world and good TV reception. It was the perfect base for our house hunting in the area.
    Mrs Robinson - August 2014
The cottage is perfect for a fishing trip. We take it every year, when we can, and it is everything that we need, and in a lovely location. It is clean and tidy and comfortable.
    Mr Lacey - August 2014
We enjoyed a lovely holiday and have now bought a house on Dounie so we will no longer book the Bard. Having enjoyed many holidays there, now is the time for the owners to upgrade the property considerably as it falls well behind others in the area considerable. Small touches in other properties have left the Bard behind.
    Mr Smith - April 2014
Cottage was great. Lovely atmosphere, very comfortable plus beautiful wood at back with walk to river.
    Mrs Goldfinch - June 2013
Location enabling travel to the East or West coasts. Great sandy beaches around Dornoch. Enclosed garden for pets and long walks available along riverside paths. Huge portions of Fish/Chips at Helmsdale and scenic coastal road North to.
    Mr Mitchell - July 2012
Quiet and scenic surroundings. Short distance to nearest village. Location enables travel to any coast in the same day.
