    The Bothy reviews
The welcome tea, coffee, milk and large lemon cake were much needed after the trip up. The accommodation was spotless with plenty of space for two. The recliners were used a lot after the days out walking. Lots to see and do in the local area and most other's sites like Loch Ness, Loch Lomond Edinburgh all reachable with-in a few hours. Very enjoyable and will use again.
    Mr Mcharg - August 2019
A fantastic holiday that was made all the more special thanks to the wonderful Bothy. A beautifully decorated and maintained home away from home in a wonderful location. We would definately recommend the Bothy to anyone wanting to stop in the area and we will definately be returning next year.
    Mr Bedford - June 2019
Fantastic property decorated to a very high standard. Spa bath in ensuite bathroom was a lovely surprise. Good choice of restaurants in Dunkeld. Favourite meal during our stay was at Broth3rs italian in Perth. Crannog centre well worth a visit as are Drummond Castle gardens.
    Mrs Gabriel - September 2018
A truly outstanding property. Spotless on arrival and the home baked cakes in the kitchen were a lovely touch! A great location as well to explore Pitlochry and Dunkeld. The Scottish Deli in Dunkeld has a great choice of salads and the coffee is to die for! Only stayed 2 nights but will definitely return. The owners of the cottages should be proud - they have done a marvellous job of renovating them!
    Mrs Bower - September 2018
We had a brilliant two weeks stay at the Bothy, it was equipped to a very high standard, very clean, with a lovely cake and fresh milk on arrival. Thank you Sheena and Iian for being understanding about the towel plus the lovely cake. We would recommend it to anyone. The surroundings are beautiful only a few miles from the border of the Highlands. Dunkeld was in walking distance alongside the beautiful river Tay. Pitlochary was also a lovely town with the very Dog friendly pub 'The Old Mill' Fantastic food and customer service every visit.
    Mrs Ricketts - July 2018
Absolutely fantastic. Best accommodation stayed in with Cottages & Castles. Hosts - very friendly and helpful. Property - furnished to high standard and very clean. Local Area - fantastic scenery and plenty of opportunity for road and MTB riding (our preferred pursuit). Amenities - Easy access to Dunkeld, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry for shops and restaurants.
    Mr Perks - May 2018
The Bothy has a well-equipped kitchen, a comfortable bedroom and two luxurious bathrooms. The cottage is situated in a quiet area, but still close to the A9 so you can easily explore the area. The immediate vicinity of the Tay Forest Park provides many hiking opportunities. Friendly and helpful owners we thank for the delicious cake offered on arrival.
    Mrs Bogaert - April 2018
We chose the Bothy to get away from fireworks at New Year, as our young dog has Addison's. It was a tranquil setting, extremely warm and comfortable. Amazing bed! Attentive owners....thanks for the truffles and supplies such as milk, tea and coffee....and everything fresh and very pleasant. We omitted to read that there are communal laundry facilities, which would have been handy for dog towels, and the lack of over- door hooks meant coats and towels couldn't be hung up. Minor niggle. There is a fine Bangladeshi restaurant in Dunkeld, great for our veggie takeaways, snd the local deli is dog friendly. The Habitat cafe in Aberfeldy is also ok for dogs but somewhat overpriced....cheese sandwich £6.50 plus £1 extra to toast it? seriously!
    Ms Mclean - December 2017
We absolutely loved it. We didn't see the owners at all, though they left us homemade cupcakes! The most relaxing Christmas ever! Everything was perfect - apart from WiFi which didn't work (just to do with the location!). An info sheet with 'closing up' protocol would have helped us to be sure that we were leaving everything as it should be - we hope we got it right! We will definitely book again.
    Mrs Mcdade - December 2017
Great place to stay to recharge your batteries. Located 2 miles from dunked and surrounded by countryside very peaceful. Owners live close by and very friendly and even baked us a lovely lemon cake on arrival. Very cosy and a quality place to stay the only negatives were there is no tv in bedroom and a very small 2 seater couch in living area or I would of given the bothy a 5 star instead of a 4 star.
    Miss Mackenzie - September 2017
We had a great stay at the Bothy. Made to feel welcome by Ian and Sheena who were also helpful with information regarding dog walking etc. The property if furnished to a very high standard and in a great location for exploring Perthshire and beyond. We will be back.
    Mr Macnaughton - August 2017
Excellent property to high standards, owners very nice
    Mr Gibson - July 2017
The cottage felt luxurious and seemed as if it had been recently refurbished. We absolutely loved it there and will be recommending it to friends. It is in an ideal location as it is a five minute drive to the charming town of Dunkeld with its excellent fish and chip shop. Drive through Dunkeld for a couple of miles to the wildlife reserve and watch the ospreys. You can also turn left out onto the road on which the cottage is located and head to Aberfeldy. The Birks of Aberfeldy walk is superb and then treat yourself to delicious lunch or coffee and cake at the Habitat Cafe. There is also a new Co-op in Aberfeldy which has a much better selection than the small one in Dunkeld. If you fancy a longer scenic drive through the glorious wild Scottish mountains then head to Braemar. We ate lunch outside at The Bothy restaurant where the home-made food was delicious. And when in this neck of the woods the lochs are a must. We enjoyed our drive along Loch Tay but did not like the town of Killin at the end of the loch. Crieff was disappointing but the Visitor Centre is a great place to visit in the rain as watching the glassmakers at work is fascinating. The haggis, neeps and tatties at the restaurant in the Centre was superb. Perth is well worth a visit. Much nicer than Stirling.
    Mrs Ebhohimen - July 2017
The property is very well located. It has all the features you would need and the owners are nearby if needed. Excellent property
    Mr Ryan - July 2017
LOCATION: Absolutely fabulous. FACILITIES: Second to none. ACCOMMODATION for TWO: Home from home- Ground floor Kitchen/Diner/Lounge all excellent.Ground floor Toilet and Shower room so handy.Bedroom and ensuite really comfortable OWNERSHIP: So helpful and obliging in every way including lovely baked chocolate cake and welcome pack . AREA: So convenient for exploring the beautiful country side in and around Dunkeld - Ballquidder (Monochyle Hotel) Pitlochry to the North, Bankfoot to the South and Blaigorie to the East
    Mr Platts - April 2017
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Facilities great. Very comfy bed. Ideal for our dogs. Only minor complaint was the shower flow. Will stay again.
    Mr & Mrs Gerrard - January 2017
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at "The Bothy". thank you sheena, for, the cake, and engaging with us when there was a hedgehog to look at and photograph. we really appreciated that. The location was great, not far from anywhere really. We loved Dunkeld, had a couple of meals at the Royal Dunkeld Pub, we enjoyed the pub, lovely people. We loved the time we spent travelling your country, we visited, Inverness, Stonehaven, Edinburgh and so many little towns in between. Just loved St Andrews, we walked the greens. Pauline loved Crieff and so did i, it is a lovely spot. Stirling is very high on the list, the amount of castles we saw, just fantastic. loved Bannockburn and Robert The Bruce statue. So far as "the bothy" is concerned, no problems what so ever, just loved it, although i did have to sit at the table, because Pauline had taken up all of the space on the lounge!! That is a minor thing, as we are visiting your wonderful country we are not in The Bothy much during the day. I would have liked to have met Mr Matherson, my wife is a farmers daughter from Australia and we may of had some special interests. Best regards John and Pauline Britten. We loved our stay.
    Mr Britten - September 2016
We had a lovely time at The Bothy. It provided everything we needed and more. All the fixtures and fitting are good quality, so the owners have obviously made an effort. The owners are very nice and if you do decide to visit you will no doubt meet Millie the Cocker Spanial, who just wants to play all the time. Scotland is fabulous and there is much to see and do...... And the there's no end of walks with beautiful scenery.
    Mr Welch - July 2016
we so enjoyed our holiday it was very relaxing and the scenery is stunning the local hotel in Dunkeld is good value for money and the food is great and also the staff .We will certainly try and come back it was just what we needed .thank you.
Mr And Mrs Boyers - July 2016
Beautiful accomadation could not fault anything
    Mrs Johnson - July 2015
The Bothy was fantastic, my wife and I found everything we needed and the accommodation was very comfortable, it also was immaculate everything was spotless and clean. On arrival we were met by the landlord and lady who were very friendly and helpful, there was also a freshly home baked cake waiting for us which was lovely with a cup of tea after our journey. The area is beautiful and there are lots of lovely walks a nice places to eat out for lunch or dinner, we had a fantastic time.
    Mr Scott - October 2014
I would just like to say that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bothy and were made to feel most welcome, both by the owners and the dogs! The little pad was beautifully fitted up, we wanted for nothing and the venue was delightful. We liked being so close to Dunkeld and surrounding places of interest. We will try and come back another year.
    Mr Strofton - September 2014
Very good property, high standard of finish, nice touches by owner on arrival, could not fault.
    Mr Nicolson - August 2014
Amazing place. Was so nice to be able to take our little dog with us, and the cottage was lovely. The owner couldnt of been any nicer, and very helpful. Great location and only 5 min drive from dunkeld. The cottage was very well equiped, and the bedroom and ensuite were huge. Will def be recomending it to friends. Thanks.
    Miss Hepburn - July 2014
Well and thoughtfully arranged property. Particularly liked the provision of two bathrooms. High quality furnishings. On site owner interested and involved. Very pleasant, quiet location. Well situated for many activities. Would recommend Howies Bistro in Dunkeld and also the Tourist Information office in Dunkeld.
    Mr Magee - June 2013
the Bothy was a great place to stay for a few days. The property is very welcoming and of a really high standard. The owners have certainly made the Bothy very comfortable and cosy, with just the right feel of a 'home from home'. We were pleased to find a lovely cake waiting for us when we arrived and loved the place straight away. Dunkeld is only 5 mins away, Pitlochry, Perth and Aberfeldy are all just a short drive and we were able to visit all of these during our stay. Aberfeldy has the Birks cinema that has just been recently refurbished and is well worth a visit. And while I'm plugging, give Boo Vake in Perth a visit if you like good design and arty things for home. There's plenty of woodland walks nearby too and loch of the lowes is unmissable. What are you waiting for? Go book!
    Mr Watt - April 2013
Had a fantastic stay here, modern facilities, clean and comfortable, would be happy to go back
    Mr Dixon - November 2012
you just can't get any where better great location for most of scotland and what a place to stay
    Mr Bell - October 2012
We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Bothy. The property was superb and we rate it the best property we have stayed in during the 20 years we have been coming to Scotland. This was not only due to the warm welcome we received from the owners and their 2 dogs but the area around Dunkeld and views from The Bothy were exceptional. On our walks around the area we discovered deer and red squirrels in abundance and the peace and quiet was the icing on the cake. There is nothing we can think of to fault this property or location and would highly recommend it. We will be back next year and are looking forward to it very much.
    Mrs Gregory - September 2012
Our stay at the bothy was absolutely fantastic. The accommodation was exceptional. It was spotlessly clean, comfortable, cosy and the spa bath after a long day walking ( of which there are many from the cottage) was just amazing. The owners were very friendly and on hand if there had been a problem which there were none. The area around Dunkeld is brilliant and in Dunkeld itself there are good places to eat. We tried Howies bistro which was very nice and we ate at the Royal hotel which was also very good.
    Mrs Logan - August 2012
I defy anyone not to feel fully relaxed and recharged after a holiday in The Bothy. The attention to detail coupled with the high spec of the accomadation is second to none. There is also the added bonus of being in the Heart of Scotland with ALL the sightseeing opportunities there is to be had. Do not overlook The Bothy, you will not be disappointed.
    Mr Bruce - July 2012
The Bothy was a delightful, well equipped cottage. A welcoming lemon loaf was just the thing with a cup of tea. Very comfortable bed with beautiful linens. Having two bathrooms was an added bonus, esp. the one with the shower stall. - we Canadians love our showers!!! The only negative was the cars running right by the front door.
    Mrs Gunn - June 2012
We have had the best holiday in Scotland ever!!! When we arrived after a 12 hour drive from Cornwall we were overwhelmed at the quality of the Bothy and the lovely additional touches like the Lemon Drizzle cake which was delicious. There is nothing we can fault with the Bothy, it has everything we needed and wanted. We had arranged to get married in Gretna on the Wednesday and had already booked a B&B for the Tuesday night in Gretna but we were reluctant to leave the Bothy even just for one night. The owners were on holiday themselves when we arrived but when they returned they were very welcoming and were very sweet to give us a bottle of wine once they learned we had got married. We will definitely come again and hopefully bring our dogs next time as there are so many beautiful walks so close by, it is ideally located for walkers, cyclists, dog owners or just for sight seeing. Can't wait to come back again!!! (I didn't tick the recommended for families with teens box as this is only a review of the Bothy, but the Byre or the Stables would suit families with teens very well)
    Miss Sampson - June 2012
Lovely conversion, beautifully decorated and appointed, very friendly owners. The welcome was warm, complete with lemon drizzle cake! The dogs were friendly but not intrusive, the birds were very entertaining and the local attractions were many and varied. We hope to revisit! Very minor points: hooks in the bathrooms for clothes would be useful, also more crockery/cutlery would help because of having the dishwasher.
    Mr Dawe - May 2012
    Mr Murray - May 2012
We had a great time at the Bothy. The cottage is newly renovated and they did a great job! The kitchen was very well appointed and it was perfect for two people. It was a perfect location and the hosts were very accommodating.
    Mrs Watters - March 2012
A very well-appointed and comfortable property which is perfectly positioned in the heart of rural Perthshire, less than 3 miles from all the amenities of Dunkeld. While the Bothy is in a perfect location for those who enjoy the outdoor life (there are several walking and cycling opportunities right on the doorstep), those enjoying a quieter pace of life would be equally at home. A thoroughly enjoyable holiday!
    Anonymous - September 2011
This was a return visit - we discovered it last September. The Bothy is generously sized for 2 people. There are nice little touches throughout. The bed is the most comfortable I've ever slept in. And its ideally located in a great area and near to the fine town of Dunkeld where the best food and provisions can set you up to enjoy your own cooking.
    Miss Jenrick - August 2011
Beautifully done and lovely scenery although close to A9 you don't really hear any road noise. If you emjoy cycling good cycle tracks around the area and fishing is available too. One or two small things were that more than one tea towel would have been helpful and the hot water took forever to get hot in the kitchen although there is a dishwasher it seems such a waste of resources to use it for two people but otherwise everything else was great. Especially nice was all the sundries left in the en-suite like shower gel etc and packs of coffee tea etc and biscuits and milk as a welcome pack.
    Mr Forsyth - April 2011
Extremely well presented with all modern, some luxury, amenities. We particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi bath. Very helpful owners just next door. Good access to the Highlands and other nice parts of Scotland. Good walks nearby from the Hermitage - especially up to the water falls. Other larger properties just next door so although the Bothy is aimed at just a couple, bigger groups could be accommodated.
    Mr Gardener - February 2011
