Description

Surrounded by a Site of Special Scientific Interest of 6,500 acres of moorland, The Log House is a truly special holiday house in Scotland. With fabulous walks from the door, including the River Ayr Way, and a huge variety of bird and wildlife including Black Grouse, Hen Harriers, Golden Plover, and Short-Eared Owls to be spotted, the nature lover will adore this property. Fishing may also be arranged. With the Championship golf courses of Turnberry, Troon and Prestwick within easy reach, there is plenty to do for the outdoor person.

The Log House is full of character and charm and equipped to ensure you have a great self-catering holiday. A large deck allows al fresco dining and the big sitting rooms, with open fire are perfect to gather around at the end of the day. It is a wonderful holiday house to socialise as a large group, to celebrate with family, or just enjoy the wonderful outdoors around.

Despite its rural location, Muirkirk and Mauchline have a variety of shops, whilst the Sorn Inn combines both a traditional pub and an excellent restaurant. The Log House is also within easy reach of the fabulous sandy beaches of Ayrshire. Also in the area are many historical places of interest, such as Dumfries House in Cumnock or the National Trust for Scotland's properties of Culzean Castle and Rabbie Burn’s birthplace in Alloway.

No dogs April - June during the lambing and nesting season.

    The Log House reviews
The Log House has so many lovely features like the open fires and views out over the fields but the property could do with some updating. We enjoyed the large sitting room with it's open fire and comfy seats. The kitchen is a good size with lots of appliances, including two dishwashers, but could do with a larger freezer. There is a dining area but we had to create a makeshift larger table as the one large table only accommodates about 10. There is only one power shower in the whole property so there was a bit of a queue for that. We did get a lot of rain which is fine as it is West Scotland but this led to a leak onto our bed which was due to a lack of maintenance. As a group we had a great time and will have fond memories. Some of the foolhardy among us even ventured out to the pool in the local river for a dip on a very wet and windy day. Just end by saying lots of positives but the property does need some TLC sooner than later.

I booked the log house for a family get together for my 60th birthday and what a fantastic place! There was so much room, nine spacious bedrooms, two lounges, a big dining room and a very well equipped kitchen. The decor was very hunting lodge, filled with lovely big heavy furniture. It was very warm and there was masses of hot water. Couldn't have found a better place for our party. Shame the weather hadn't been better as it would have been nice to swim in the river. Fully intend to book this again

We really enjoyed our time here but a few problems, the lights in the kitchen, dining room and the main lounge didn't work as they tripped constantly also central heating didn't work either, the gentleman came in and tried it but kept cutting out.

This was our fourth stay at the log house and our large extended family just love the peace and tranquility of it's location. We hope to return again and again. There is only one criticism and that is that there are no showers in the bathrooms but only baths, however a long soak was welcome after a long walk or hours fishing! Thanks again for the opportunity to rent this fantastic property. Paul Allan.
