Description

A classically beautiful traditional Scottish manse, this wonderful holiday house has been recently and comprehensively renovated to provide a fantastic property in a great location. This self catering holiday house is set well off the road near the charming village of Poolewe and its traditional Highland garden is surrounded by trees on three sides, with the fourth side opening out to the beautiful spate river Ewe. The river is fenced off but you may see salmon jumping in the pools below and in colder months deer on the hills behind. The village is a delight with its setting on the clear seashores of Loch Ewe and Inverewe gardens overlooking one side of the bay making it one of the most beautiful parts of the West Coast. For walkers and climbers this is a delight with the great wilderness areas inland, mountains such as Slioch and the beautiful Loch Maree all in the vicinity. For a quieter holiday there are some of the most glorious beaches in Britain along this coastline.

The Manse is a special property, with its large kitchen/dining room which extends the full depth of the house. Newly refurbished and improved, it is a great space to socialise over a meal. The sitting room is equally spacious and welcoming, with an open fire and plenty of comfy seating. The bedrooms are all fresh, clean and bright with two on the first floor and three on the ground floor. This is very much a house to relish – from its fantastic location to its extremely comfortable and roomy interior you cannot fail to enjoy Poolewe Manse, the perfect self catering holiday home to explore the beautiful Wester Ross.

    The Manse reviews
The Manse is an idyllic place to stay. It is in an exceptional location whether you want to walk, fish, relax, be a tourist or a blend of those elements. The proportions of the place lift your spirits immediately - cosy, but spacious and plenty of room to entertain guests in grand style. The owner, housekeeper / ghillie etc. just could not be more helpful and charming. The one and only problem with the place is that you do eventually have to leave.
    Mr Gray - December 2017
HOUSE ALL BEAUTIFULLY CLEAN AND WITH ALL THE AMENITIES ONE COULD HOPE FOR. ALL WENT VERY WELL FOR BOTH LOTS OF FRIENDS WE HAD DURING THE WEEK. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE IF THE LADY HAD COME TO SEE IF WE NEEDED ANY HELP BUT WE HAD TAKEN OUR OWN LOGS SO THERE WAS REALLY NO NEED.
    Mrs Stephen - September 2017
Fantastic House. Lovely big rooms, plenty of space, bathrooms and kitchen ideal for large family meals. Enjoyed our holiday, lovely walks or for the more adventurous ... plenty of Munros to climb ! ......... small swimming pool in village, golf and beaches at Gairloch ( 15 minute drive ) Badachro Inn worth a visit for lunch. Great area to explore and in the summer the beaches are superb.
    Mrs Macdonald - April 2017
The Manse was great for our party (of 9) - lots of space and best of all a great drying room. Big well-equipped kitchen, comfy beds, good showers - cracking location by the river. The weather was pretty poor, so all that space (and a real fire) was most welcome. If there was a negative point it was finding the place - there were no signs up and it was really dark when we arrived. Would recommend to anyone.
    Mr Webb - December 2016
Tranquil and spacious - great for the family. Made many wonderful memories. Gobsmackingly beautiful setting!
    Mrs Kent - August 2016
This is such a lovely house to stay in. It is a beautiful house inside and there is something very relaxing about the sumptuous lay out and being next to the river. Great for a big group or a family and in very easy reach of so many fascinating activities - Inverewe, Gairloch, Badachro, Aultbea and so on. Wonderful walking in pretty much every direction.
    Mr Gray - April 2016
We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this very comfortable and well-equipped house.
    Mrs Meiklejohn - April 2014
Our young family had a delightful stay at the Manse for a fortnight in October / November 2013. Owner, Housekeeper and Ghillie were all very pleasant and helpful and we can't wait to get back there. Lovely trips to the Badachro Inn and the Melvaig Inn plus some excellent hillwalking around Sgurr Morr in the Fannichs. We fitted in a little late-season fishing which was tremendous fun and Ray is (speaking as someone who works in education) a superb and patient teacher. We've been coming to the area for more than a decade but are now aiming to make a stay at the Manse an annual fixture. Would recommend it most highly - it worked so well for us to be there for that time with various friends and relatives coming to visit. Five good bedrooms and two bathrooms gives plenty of flexibility and the living rooms are an excellent size. Jon & Emma Gray
    Mr Gray - October 2013
Our stay couldn't have been more relaxing, we had alll the facilities we needed and The Manse exceeded our expectations
    Mrs Davison - March 2013
Overall the house was excellent - an old manse recently converted. The quality of furnishings and fittings was generally very good, couple of minor annoyances but in a big house you expect that. There was a problem with the WiFi, which seemed to be a BT fault but the housekeeper and owner both did everything possible to resolve the problem and their efforts were appreciated. The kitchen has pretty much everything you'll need, heating is simple and straightforward with modern temperature controls. Firm bed, which is always great! Fantastic location overlooking the river with the coast, mountains and riverside walks all on the doorstep. The hotel in Poolewe was tired and the man behind the bar was really hard work to speak to, however in nearby Gairloch the Old Inn was great, as was its own microbrewery real ale! Enjoyed an exhilarating 10k walk on the north side of the river while there - I would recommend it in drier weather as it was a bit soggy underfoot after a very wet period but with the right footwear and clothing it's fine. The drive there and back from Inverness is fantastic and the coastline in particular is breathtaking.
