Description

The Old Fire Station has been transformed into a stunning architect-designed contemporary holiday home, situated in the friendly seaside village of Tighnabruiach on Argyll’s beautiful Cowal Peninsular.  This is the perfect holiday destination for those who enjoy stylish modern living with a sleek, contemporary finish both inside and outside.

The clean white walls, oak flooring and Scottish contemporary art and sculpture create a soothing, luxurious living space and ultra-modern accessories include a Sonos Sound System with ceiling speakers throughout, wireless broadband, and sophisticated remote controlled lighting.

The three inviting ground floor bedrooms, accessed from the inner hallway, are all furnished to a high standard with Egyptian cotton linen and the en-suite wet room in the master bedroom gives the feeling of a boutique hotel suite. Complimentary Arran Aromatics bath packs, luxury bathrobes and slippers are also included.

From the outer hallway a spiral staircase leads up to an imaginatively designed open plan living/kitchen/dining room which takes full advantage of the stunning views over the village, and across the sea to the Kyles of Bute and beyond. This is a wonderful space with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that open onto a full width glazed balcony terrace, making it perfect for alfresco dining and relaxed summertime drinks. During cooler months, the warm glow of the log burning stove creates a lovely backdrop.

Due to the nature of the spiral staircase, The Old Fire Station is not suitable for young children.

    Beautiful modern house with great attention to detail. Living space upstairs with all—round windows — fantastic lighting and view. I/ we loved the house and it made up for the three days of non stop rain at the beginning of the holiday!

    Owner very helpful in providing feather free bedding for me as I have allergies. Property very clean. It is a very modern house light and bright. Wonderful location with lounge, dining room and Kitchen on the first floor overlooking the loch. Bedrooms good size. If you have mobility problems then the winding staircase may be a problem. Parking no problem - I was concerned after reading one of the other reviews but we had no issues at all. Lovely big balcony on the first floor with glass frontage so the view is maximised. Had wonderful pub lunch at nearby village of Kames, and an amazing Sunday lunch at the Royal an Lochan Hotel in the village. Both highly recommended. We loved the ferry trip over to Kintyre and Inverary Castle. Scenery stunning both on Argyll and Kintyre which we toured round. NO MIDGES! couldn't believe it. Went equipped with spray and net but not needed at all - we went mid August. Great memories were made. We had a little trouble getting to grips with the lights as they are ultra modern and seemed to have a mind of their own, but managed. Niggles - had to chase up information about shops and where to get food as unsure what was in village. Owner very helpful once approached but this should be sent out as standard a few weeks in advance. Minute amount of toilet paper left, only one dishwasher tablet for 4 days and we had flown in and I am not sure local small shop even sold them... I did raise this with owner so I am hopeful these will be addressed in future and will make it a definite 5 star.

    It‘s sad that it is not taken care of. It could be a very nice place to stay. On the outside are a lot of weeds, even on the artifical lawn. The palm outside is brown instead like on the foto green. When you enter it smells musty and on the upper floor you can smell the heating oil. It is not clean, only half of the toaster works properly, the watercooker is rusty inside....
    Owners Response: "Thank you for your comments. I'm sorry that there were aspects of the house which you felt could be improved, and hope it didn’t affect your holiday in this wonderful area. I visited a couple of weeks after your holiday and there were some weeds in the garden which needed removed. The palm tree is healthy although the old leaves go brown below the new growth and are best allow to fall off rather than physically removed, and this is perhaps what you commented on? The cleaner at the time of your stay was let go shortly after your stay after another complaint and we engaged a new cleaner recommended by Cottages & Castles. I am please to report that we have had no negative cleaning reviews since. My heating engineer checked the central heating system and could find no issues. We have not had any other issues since your comments. The toaster was working when I tried it out? I assume the “water boiler” is the electric kettle? This is only two years old and has some discolouration inside on the boiler element, and I have been told this is a normal build-up of dissolved minerals from the tap water and has no effect on the boiled water. I will investigate and see if there is any way to clean this."

    The House was fabulous and very contempory in design, with great views and good location just off the main street. 3 bedrooms plus ensuite bath room and family bathroom were very nice . Kitchen was well equipped and great log burner

    Comfortable sleeping rooms. Open plan living room, unfortunately with uncomfortable seats. Difficulties with TV, housekeeper did not help. Kitchen equipment just average. The whole place could have been a little bit cleaner. Some spots at the house need attention by the owner. (Ex: main entrance door locks)

    The house was quirky and lovely and a change from the normal cottage we might hire. It had a beautiful sun terrace with views accross the water towards Isle of Cumbrae. Tignabruiach is a lovely wee village and the area around it is quite stunning. Unfortunately we had one small complaint about parking , as the house backs on to a working Green Flag garage where pick up trucks are constantly in and out. At times we found it really difficult to get our car in or out the cottage driveway when the trucks were parked up.

    Wonderful property in a charming location. All mod cons. Really unique property in a small village with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Would recommend the Botanic and oyster catcher restaurants for some excellent food.

    The location of this property is what appealed to us - the view across to the Isle of Bute particularly first thing in the morning is amazing. The property itself is stunning and finished to a first class standard with lots of tech and gadgets! The bedrooms are all spacious and the beds extremely comfortable - it would have been considerate to have spare 'non feather' duvets available though to those that have an allergy to feathers!! Trying to get out of the parking space on the property is interesting if there are vehicles behind as it's very tight and the low wall on the left is hard to see. Overall a great base for exploring the area

    beautiful location and lovely property. Unfortunately very dusty. Also lot of insect life inside and windows overgrown and difficult to open. no instructions for sky tv - not all of us have this so are not adept at using. call to caretaker sorted this but still no written instruction. Not worth price paid for the holiday.
    Owners Response: "Thank you for your comments - Good reviews are great, but critical reviews are better. Your feedback is extremely valuable to us, as it allows us to take action were required and ensure high standards are maintained. There is an inaccessible window sill in the double height entrance hall, some 4.5meters from floor level. I have managed to order a telescopic feather duster for the housekeeper and that should ensure that any dust and dead flies from that area are accessible and will be removed as part of housekeeping schedule. I was unaware that brambles in front of one of the ground floor bedroom windows had grown like wildfire during last summer - they have now been removed. I wrongly assumed that the SKY TV use was straightforward, and I am now including a simple guide to TV/DVD operation. Thank you for pointing out these items out, and apologise for any inconvenience they may have caused."

    We holidayed with three teenagers, which is no meant feat in rural Scotland. Stylish, modern property in a welcoming village. Beds extraordinarily comfortable. Easy access to great walks, great restaurants, good facilities. Enjoyed the spa at Portavadie, great cafes, and a pub with a pool table, along with a stunning beach only 15 minutes away. Caught multiple mackerel, cycled, canoed. What is not to like?

    The Old Fire Station is very well situated within a beautiful setting and close to amenities. The house is modern and well appointed. It works well making good use of the wonderful view. I would say that the surround sound and TV in the bathroom and bedroom are unnecessary and a clearer explanation of the lighting system would have been helpful. It would have been good if there had been someone there to welcome us and give us a local point of contact. The only contact we had was a knock on the door on the Thursday by a woman who said that she thought we were leaving that day. The weather was mixed whilst we were there but this did not spoil our enjoyment of the area. Portavadie was especially good for all when weather made being outside too uncomfortable.

    Very nice modern property with amazing views. Property itself and garden could do with TLC and a good clean. Despite these minor issues we had a lovely stay. Local restaurants and pubs were good quality and friendly service. Good location for visiting surrounding islands it's ferries near by.

    Tighnabruaich is truly a beautiful place with lots of places to visit. There are a good array of shops and Tighnabruaich Gallery. A delicatessen and restaurant. The people are all friendly and we can't wait to go again.

    After driving through floods etc it was lovely to arrive at Old Fire Station seeing it all lit up on a dark winters evening. The 3 bedrooms all nicely proportioned and toiletries provided along with fluffy towels, slippers and robes. It had all the amenities we needed, including extras we hadn't expected. Tea, coffee, sugar etc plus fairy liquid, dishwasher tablets and more. I assume left from previous occupants rather than provided as standard. Plenty of wood for the log burner which we used for effect rather than needing extra heating as building very well insulated and we turned heating down. Not being into gadgets etc it took us a couple of days to work out the lighting system. The terrace outside the open plan living,kitchen,diner had plenty of seating And a lovely view. Only downside was the wet weather which had made the surface slippery so we used it with caution. I am not a fan of spiral stairs but soon got used to them. Due to weather we didn't make use of the bikes or picnic hamper provided but I am sure they would get plenty of use in the summer months. Lovely break, lovely house.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
