Description

The Old Manse at Farleyer is a wonderful house in a brilliant location. This Georgian building has been stylishly and thoughtfully renovated to create an excellent holiday house. With large, bright rooms, luxurious furniture and fittings, this is a vacation house to enjoy living in. With a great new kitchen/dining room for every day meals, you also have the option of a more formal dining space in the second living room. There are open fires or log burners in the public rooms and both have glorious views over the beautiful Perthshire hills.

The bedrooms have a high proportion of bathrooms making this house ideal for big parties of people. The bedrooms themselves are exceptionally comfortable and welcoming - all with TVs and two with full Sky package.

This is a glorious area - high up the Tay valley and near the charming and busy town of Aberfeldy. The house has two beats on the Tay - Lower and Upper Farleyer - where catches have doubled recently. The beats are very close to the house, have 8 rods and may be available by arrangement. Additionally, the house can be offered catered or partly catered and with a housekeeper if preferred. The house Manager can arrange a wealth of experiences for you from a stunning falconry display to distillery tours, stalking or shooting.

In the same ownership but separate and behind the house, is Farleyer Steading, with two further en-suite bedrooms, and a very large open space with billiard table, kitchen, dining and sitting room. If not let as a separate unit, it makes an ideal spot for overflow accommodation, or for celebrations and ceilidhs! 

A fantastic house whether you are after first class salmon fishing on the Tay or a self catering holiday par excellence surrounded by stunning views and sumptuous surroundings.

The Steading

A simply great converted steading, that is both welcoming and quirky. The large main space has double height ceilings and a large open fire, whilst the large glass doors give exceptional views across the Strath. Open-plan room combines sitting, dining, kitchen and a magnificent billiard room as well as a bathroom. The two twin bedrooms are extremely comfortable and both are en-suite.

Outside is a patio and furniture - perfect for a quiet drink at the end of the day. The house has ownership of two upper Tay beats which may be available by arrangement. The beats are Upper and Lower Farleyer, where catches have almost doubled in the past year.

If you are not fishing then this area is filled with things to do and places to explore. The nearby town of Aberfeldy is enchanting with independent shops and restaurants, golf course and a distillery. Nearby is Castle Menzies, or explore some of the many wonderful walks in the area where you may well see deer and red squirrels. Canoeing and rafting is also available nearby.

Farleyer Steading is delightful - the sort of place that gives you peace and glorious views but is located in a popular area with plenty to do. The holiday house itself is ideal to enjoy Perthshire.

    Sorry for late review but wanted to say we had a super family get-together here in Nov 18. The accommodation was lovely and situation perfect. We had some lovely family meals in dining room with log fires on!

    Clean, well appointed. Great reception space, and fabulous dining room for formal meals. We all enjoy cooking and were very impressed with the range and standard of equipment provided - no need to take any back-up items. All the basic items that are sometimes lacking in rental properties were provided (I.e kitchen roll, cling film, tinfoil, dishwasher tablets, etc.). The caretaker for the property was helpful and available and very informative.

    As a location for a celebration of our Silver Wedding this house was perfect. Comfortable, stylish and well equipped; we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Having the steading was a real bonus. The views from the terrace in the evening were lovely. The Old Manse is more a home than a holiday house and we appreciated the obvious care with which it has been furnished and looked after.

    We were a group of 13 for a wee get together and it was a fantastic house, kids had plenty to do from hide and seek to pool and so many TVs it was no problem with a games console. Adults had a great time too mostly in the kitchen area which was a great social room. We even managed a BBQ one night with some great venison from the butchers in Aberfeldy so recommend that (herb garden outside the door helped too). Small walk to the Land Rover safari cafe too is recommended, nice wee place. Some of the group went for cycle trips around the area and had a few good trips, bike hire nearby too for them that can't manage to bring one.

    We enjoyed the most wonderful week at the Old Manse at Farleyer and Steading. The house and steading were both so comfortable and welcoming for our family holiday. The house was equipped with everything that we might possibly have needed and was decorated to a high standard too. The location is fantastic - just a short distance from the River Tay where our dogs went swimming every day. All in all, a wonderful retreat.

    The house is beautifully furnished but very comfortable. The elegant dining room added to our experience . The bedrooms were warm and cosy with very efficient showers . The kitchen was huge with space to eat and adequate equipment , fridges etc . Plenty of space for boots ,coats and other equipment . The Steading was perfect for our teenagers giving them their own cosy space with snooker table and TV but very close to the house .

    The house was perfect for our needs. Very well equiped with all the comforts of home especially the kitchen. I especially liked the christmes tree and decorations that Yvonne had taken care of. She made us feel very welcome when we arrived and nothing was too much of a bother for her. You need more caretakers like her.

    Cottages & Castles Ltd. (acting as agents for property owners) provides a guarantee for tenants who have to cancel their holiday at a cottage.

    If it is necessary to cancel your holiday, for any of the reasons A 1-5 below, you may do so at any time up until the close of business on the last working day before your tenancy commences and we will refund your balance. Your deposit is not refundable. If you have made a late booking and paid in full you will receive your payment minus the normal deposit sum (usually 30%).

    There is no charge for this holiday protection – it is included in the cost of your holiday. Please note that the protection does not apply to holidays in our properties with codes beginning with P (usually castles, mansions and lodges).

    Deposits may be transferred to a different date for a holiday at the same property within 12 months of the original holiday date, subject to availability, but not, however, for a different property. If the new booking is at a higher rate the tenant must pay the extra cost. No refund will be made if the new date is at a lower rate.

    A:
    1. Death, accidental bodily injury, or illness (excluding pre-existing or chronic illness/conditions, or illness arising through epidemics or pandemics)
    a) the Proposer and/or persons with whom he/she has arranged to travel.
    b) any close relative or business associate of the Proposer or of any person with whom he/she has arranged to travel or arranged to meet at the specified holiday establishment. We will require appropriate documentary evidence of illness or bodily injury from a registered medical practitioner. This evidence must state that the Proposer is unfit to travel.

    2. Jury service, witness call or unemployment through redundancy of the Proposer after the date of booking and prior to the commencement date of the holiday.

    3. Fire or theft which is the subject of an insurance claim at the Insured’s main residence or business premises within seven days before commencement of the holiday.

    4. Occupational postings not contemplated at the time the holiday is booked.

    5. Cancellation or curtailment of scheduled transport services due to strikes, riots or civil commotion, but limited to the cost of alternative transport up to £50 per person for the outward journey only.

    But not, however:

    B:
    1. Disinclination to travel.

    2. Failure of public or private transport.

    3. Suicide, attempted suicide, insanity, the influence of intoxicating liquor or the effect of drugs not taken in accordance with treatment prescribed and directed by a qualified medical practitioner or booking a holiday which is or would be against the advice of a registered medical practitioner.

    4. Pregnancy unless problems occur which prevent the person travelling. A  verification must be signed by a registered medical practitioner to this effect

    5. Any loss which is otherwise insured.

    6. Holiday accommodation booked outside Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and the Channel Islands
