    The Sheiling reviews
The Sheiling was just a wonderful house. So comfortable and well equipped. Great quality bedding and towels and such a fantastic view. We loved this house and loved Lamlash. Great garden and lots of outdoor furniture. We really couldn’t ask for more. Wonderful house. Thoroughly recommend it. We’ll be back. Thanks, Kirsty, for making it so comfortable.
    Mrs Suttie - May 2019
What a wonderful place and fantastic location. Absolutely stunning views from the lounge and garden. The road in front of the cottage is very quiet as it goes to a dead end. The was a very well stocked co-op just up the road and a good bus service to Lamlash. We were able to walk the coastal path to Brodick and get the bus home. The cottage was spacious and well equipped for our two families.
    Mrs Partridge - April 2019
A lovely cosy house with fabulous views over the bay. The garden was secure so we were able to let our dog have a wander around without worrying - red squirrels regularly ran across the grass but they were far too quick for him. 3 of the 4 pubs/hotels in Lamlash are very dog friendly + the cafe near the slipway welcomed dogs. We managed lots of walks including Goat Fell - the final climb is hard but the views at the top were brilliant. Also many waterfall walks which were well worth visiting. If you're visitng the 'best beach' on the island make sure you check the tides! It's only a sandy beach at low tide. The one thing that did spoil our holiday somewhat was the ferries! CalMac informed us, 4 days before travelling, that our ferry was cancelled. Long phone calls + time on line booking a night in a hotel with dog are not what you need just before a holiday!
    Mrs Woodyer - September 2018
Had a wonderful stay at the shelling with the family. The house was perfect for 7 adults and a baby. It had a fantastic location and wonderful views of the holy isle. Just a short walk to the shops and pubs which served great food . A short journey to Brodick meant that we could visit museums and the castle grounds etc. We also had a lovely visit to Lochranza distillery.
    Mrs Quigley - August 2018
We had a fabulous week at The Sheiling and re-booked it for next year whilst we were still there! It's a superb property, so clean and well equipped with an incredibly lovely view from the lounge window!
    Mrs Price - August 2018
Everything you could need for a holiday week in such a place of peace and tranquility. Arran is not a cheap holiday destination but if you need your Arran fix every year a great house. Thank you for allowing us this use of it. Eunice, Edinburgh

The Sheiling is a perfect holiday home. We were a family group of three generations and The Sheiling afforded us plenty of space to spread out! It is very well equipped, only thing missing is bbq. We would not hesitate to recommend The Sheiling.
    Mrs Smith - June 2018
Wow. What can I say? Amazing house, absolutely gorgeous view from the living room and 3 of the bedrooms. Just from pulling into the private parking yard I knew we'd booked somewhere special. Huge and spacious that the online photos can't show. Everything you could possibly need in every room. Kitchen fabulous and modern, the beds in all rooms were huge and comfy, en suite in main bedroom is bigger than some peoples main rooms. The annex outside wasn't really used but that looked really comfortable too and was ensuite also. Garden was big, well maintained and gate right onto the beach over a quiet road. Lovely to sit on the garden bench and table with the very welcome bottle of Prosecco. Kids completely loved their twin bedroom overlooking the beach and Holy Isle. The wife and I of course took the master bedroom and the other adults took the other huge double bedroom. Not ensuite but another bathroom literally just along hallway. A little room with a cot/toddler bed in it too for anyone with a youngster with them. A utility room contained another fridge and freezer with a chilled water and ice cube dispenser, washer and tumble drier and a hoover. The living room was a complete suntrap all day long with amazing views that you couldn't possibly get bored with. Decent smart TV for the nights when relaxing after hectic days involving Gorge walking, Speed boating, touring the island and walking to many sites such as Glenashdale falls and Machrie Moor. Only minutes away from the main street in Lamlash with shops, pubs, and a Co-op store for any essentials. Our only problem was an alarm kept going off but a quick call to the owner got the engineer to ring us and he identified a fault on the system and gave us the code to type in to disable it. No fault of owner just one of them things unfortunately and she had it sorted within the hour. The worst part was Friday morning at checkout time and the 6 of us left a big pool of tears. I can't recommend this house enough to anyone wanting to stay on Arran that is luxurious and comfortable with a view as good as that. My family have done self catering rentals for our holidays for 18 years now around the UK and we have stayed in some fantastic places but this is the new number 1. Next time on Arran we won't be looking for anywhere else to stay and after your stay I think you will be the same. Can't wait for the next stay, can't thank you enough.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The house is really comfortable, well equipped and tastefully decorated with plenty of room for the 7 of us (all adults). It's also all on one level which was ideal for our party which included 3 in their 80s! The ouloook is spectacular and the living room is perfectly positioned with lots of windows for enjoying the the view. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. I would highly recommend this property - hope we will be back soon!
    Mrs Ryan - May 2018
Great house; stunning view; good for families / groups of friends; good facilities & great location. A visit to Holy Island is a must. Local pubs in Lamlash great for food ( Drift Inn) & quizzes (Pierhead Tavern). Recommend the local whisky from the Arran Distillery( they make good soup too!) Thanks for a wonderful holiday.
    Mrs Hunt - April 2018
We stayed at The Sheiling over Easter and it is a beautiful, high quality property with the most amazing views! The house was spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. It was well equipped, especially the kitchen, and included many extra items that made it feel homely (like an iphone charger!). A separate utility with additional large fridge and freezer was particularly useful. The wifi signal was reasonable - not quite as quick as at home but you are on an island! - and reliable. We had been unsure how it would be having an external annexe room. However, it is only a few steps from the back door and it was very comfortable. There were also ample keys, all clearly marked, to facilitate easy and secure coming and going. Although the weather was far too cold for us to fully enjoy it, the property has a lovely garden which is fully enclosed. A separate Bike Store was very helpful and there was ample parking area. The location is excellent. The Sheiling sits in a prime but quiet spot overlooking the bay. Lamlash itself included all the facilities we needed with a decent size Co-op for essentials, 3 hotels/bars (2 were dog friendly) and a small variety of gift and coffee shops all within easy walking distance. We had excellent communication from the very helpful owner and the welcome gift of wine and flowers was a lovely touch! We would definitely return The Sheiling and can highly recommend it.
    Mrs Collinson - March 2018
What a fabulous property The Shieling is! Its location is second to none, with stunning views over Lamlash Bay to the Holy Isle. The sun rises were beautiful. Lots of seals bopping about in the bay which the kids loved and often out on the rocks at low tide. The house itself is spacious, modern and tasteful, although we found ourselves living in the magnificent sunroom at the front of the property. It has the feel of a home from home and with plenty of garden space and parking it is ideal for families, or extended families / friends. The house is opposite the shore with great rockpools and a playpark on the doorstep. There are cafes and pubs within easy walking distance and a well stocked coop too. We had several good meals at the Pier Head Tavern, but if you're a large party, book ahead! We also had a wonderful meal at the Stag's Pavillion in Lochranza, which we'd definitely recommend. Lovely atmosphere and staff and fabulous food too. The Book ahead there too and remember its BYOB! Lunch at the Wineport was also lovely, near the brewery castle. The distillery in Lochranza is worth a visit and our kids really enjoyed making soap with Gillian at Arran Aromatics. We'll be booking The Shieling again no doubt!
    Mrs Stevenson - October 2017
I am just back from Arran. I wanted to say that the house is BEAUTIFUL, and also a massive thank you for the Proseco!! That was a lovely touch! We had everything we needed in the house, and are already of thinking of coming again! Lovely to have the selection of games and your sitting room view is stunning....we went in the sea everyday! We put the dishwasher on as we left as we realised we had run out of washing up liquid, I hope that's ok. Dirty towels are in the washing machine mostly. I hope you find the rest of the house is a satisfactory and clean condition. Good luck with your future renting, I think people will love the house. Hopefully we will come again as well!
