Property code: CA379

Surrounded by breath-taking scenery, this renovated West Highland cottage is the perfect place to escape from it all, embark on walks from your door and explore this corner of Argyll.

Close to the northern shores of Loch Awe down a single-track road, this traditional croft cottage sleeps four and is an idyllic rural retreat for a family holiday. From the cottage there are views to Ben Cruachan, Argyll’s highest mountain, and you may spot red and roe deer from the windows. It’s also only 1 mile from the village of Dalmally, where you can stock up on supplies at the local shop.

Four steps up to the main door, and you’re inside this single-storey property. It’s a real home away from home, decorated and furnished in warm earthy tones and cool neutrals, with plenty of space for a family of four. After a day exploring the Scottish countryside, return to the property to enjoy a soothing soak in the walk-in waterfall shower. Once you’re refreshed, cook up a storm in the kitchen/diner, which is well-equipped and bright with patio doors opening onto a stunning view to the mountains. When the family has eaten, move to the lounge and light the open fire for a cosy night in together. There’s also a second TV/reading room, perfect for children who want a space of their own to curl up in.

Get ready for bed, and while the younger guests get settled into their twin beds, you can be at ease in the dual-aspect double. A lovely outside space is the glass-fronted terrace, which both bedrooms have direct access to through their French doors. Sit out with a hot drink at night and stargaze when the night sky is clear of cloud. The patio is great for al fresco dining, and there’s an enclosed garden with large lawn area which surrounds the property. Within the garden there is a fast-flowing burn, so please make sure young children are supervised.

Visit the dramatic ruins of Kilchurn Castle (3 miles), which resides by the shore of Loch Awe, and once you've thoroughly explored it is a great place for a picnic. Cruachan Visitor Centre (6.5 miles) and The Hollow Mountain is an experience for the whole family to marvel at as you learn about the science of the hydro power station and take a guided tour underground. Further north is the Bonawe Historic Iron Furnace (13 miles) for history lovers, and from there you can continue on to Oban (24 miles). As well as shopping and eating out, there's the promenade, a granite tower, and a small museum to see while you're in town. Very nice and cosy place with enough space. A little smaller than expected from the pictures. Nevertheless comfortable for us as a family of four. Location as expected, we even spotted dears from the patio. Warm welcome from the hosts Helen and Peter. Thank you.

A fantastic, rural, idyllic location. Miles from anywhere and an almost perfection location to relax and unwind. There is lots to do and see in the area and the croft offers an ideal location. A warm cosy croft, with one of the best equipped kitchens we've had for many years... including enough food storage for a family of 4.
