Glen Lyon is Scotland's longest glen and possibly one of the prettiest, and at the top of the glen lies Vannoch Cottage within the pretty clachan of Pubil. Guests visiting this delightful holiday cottage will be astounded by the peace, beauty and tranquillity of the surrounding Perthshire countryside, with its majestic hills and river tumbling past only yards from the bottom of the garden. The self catering cottage has been recently refurbished and is bright and fresh. The large sitting/dining room has comfortable sofas centred round a wonderful multi-fuel burning stove, a dining table seating five people and views to the river. The kitchen is well equipped and benefits from an oil fired AGA. The downstairs bathroom is fresh and modern whilst upstairs the two double bedrooms are bright and airy with views over the river and up and down the glen. A further single bedroom offers more flexibility.

Outside is an enclosed garden and guests can fish on the river only a few steps from the house. Guests will not fail to be impressed by the stunning scenery and the complete sense of tranquilly and relaxation to be had.

For those guests who can tear themselves away from this delightful cottage, there is much to do. Walkers will love this area with several Munros on the doorstep, including the National Nature Reserve of Ben Lawers, in addition to many beautiful low level walks. Or guests may wish to visit the pretty Arts and Crafts village of Fortingall, reputed to be the birth place of Pontius Pilate, with its thatched cottages and a church yard with a 5000 year old yew tree, or perhaps a visit to Dewar's distillery in Aberfeldy, or the reconstructed Bronze Age Crannog at Kenmore. There is much wild life to be spotted including brown hares, stoats, pine martens, badgers, foxes, and red deer, and perhaps even a Golden Eagle! No matter what your interests you are bound to love this wonderful part of Scotland.

    Vannoch Cottage reviews
We were fortunate enough to have quite a long stay a Vannoch Cottage. It was magic to say the least, we had 3 dogs and they happily accommodated us. The cottage is exceptionally Setup, and cooking ain the Aga was awesome, we don’t have these in Australia, and after cooking on it I can’t go back. The cottage is set in one of the most beautiful place we have seen in Scotland, with an abundance of wildlife, water and beautiful nature, you couldn’t ask for more. David and Lorna always were very helpful, we had some heavy snow, and my hire car wasn’t very suitable, David was there in an instant to give me a hand to get out, after making a complete mess of the situation. It is a truely homely feel, and if you want peace and tranquillity it is the place to stay. My wife and I loved it.We can’t wait to return, and recommend everyone experience such a place.
    Mr & Miss Bodiam & Nikolaieva - December 2018
Great cottage in quiet remote spot with beautiful views.
    Mr Cowper - November 2018
Well appointed and cosy cottage at the end of Glen Lyon - great for a get away from it all break in the wild .
    Mr Gibson - September 2018
Fantastic location, idyllic in fact, superb cottage, very well kept and every home comfort to hand. The walks and views are exceptional and the lack of people was brilliant. The peace and quiet were second to none. Highly recommend a visit, we will be going back !
    Mrs Atkins - September 2018
We have the most amazing holiday at Vannoch cottage, excellently equipped cottage, perfect location, and the locals made the holiday as so friendly and welcoming!
    Mrs Middleton - August 2018
This cottage is very well equipped and cosy. The situation is amazing, nothing but peace and quiet, clean air and lots of wildlife. We even saw a Golden Eagle. The deer that come down opposite the cottage in the morning and evening are very entertaining. There are lots of excellent walks from the door, so you don't have to drive every day. This is just as well, as the road through the glen is single track and very long. If you want a holiday touring about, this is probably not for you. We had a wonderful time and would like to thank David for keeping us up to date with a couple of issues to do with the phone, which was due to a storm before we got there. Thanks for letting us share this wonderful place.
Mr And Mrs Robertson - June 2018
Where to start ? Drive into Pubil is gorgeous and you think wow there is no way there is a cottage here !!! Eventually you find it and are amazed by the size the location and most of all by the total lack of people, noise, traffic, it's stunning all around the views are to die for, the river outside your door the sheep just roaming around and the deer coming down to drink from the river on an evening, its total bliss. The cottage/ house is excellent I can honestly say it is the best equipped property we have ever rented for a holiday and the best thing is they have an AGA oh wow they are fantastic to use and so easy, upstairs the three bedrooms are very spacious and comfy, no need to close the curtains who's going to see ? And wake up to those amazing views. The garden is large and wraps completely around the house and is totally dog safe, we have to Airedales and they played out all the time and no escape from either, it also has two massive and I mean massive kennels in the garden if that's what you need. As the property is no where near a shop or pub you have to bring everything in with you, don't forget rubbish bags or toilet roll, also there is no phone signal but the house has a pay phone and of course there is internet here so all is not lost, so if you require total peace and tranquility with no shops and if your unlucky the odd person and car this is the place for you, I have fallen in love with this place and we are returning ASAP, ENJOY.
Mr And Mrs Preston - May 2018
We booked Vannoch Cottage last year for a get- away with our friends over the New Year period. What a beautiful cottage in the most stunning location and we could not have asked for more. We did have a long journey to get there due to the weather but was all worth it when we entered the cosy cottage and looked out over the wintery glen and river. We all enjoyed spending cosy nights in the cottage and wonderful walks during the day with our two four legged companions. The cottage was fully equipped and we enjoyed using the AGA (although took some getting used too) and the multi fuel burning stove. It was the ideal get-away from the daily stresses and strains of working in a busy environment and allowed us all some much needed time and space to refuel for 2018. We would highly recommend this cottage to others who are looking for some peace and tranquillity.
    Miss Haggart - December 2017
This a lovely cottage, with an oil Aga that is always on, warming the kitchen, the welcome is great. All the kitchen utensils you could need and warm comfortable beds. The cottage is right by a big river, so if you like fishing this is the one. Wood and coal are available for the fire place. (Bring some kindiling to help you out). The cottage is very remote, so don't forget anything. 1.30 hrs drive to the shops. (As we found out. Take loo paper, this is not supplied) and if it is winter, the roads can be very icey, we where lucky to have 4 x4. Very good value for money.. enjoy the Scottish Highlands.
    Mr Ellis - December 2017
Beautiful house and surroundings. Very helpful owner. Lots of walks and wildlife. Aga amazing. The weather didn’t put us off just dress for it. Would recommend. Is remote and toilet is downstairs but fantastic, kids adults and dogs had a great holiday.
    Mrs Cairney - October 2017
I couldn't fault Vannoch Cottage. It is a marvellous cottage nestled at the end of Glen Lyon. It's situation is perfect for getting away from it all, nature, wildlife, rambles, or just "being". If you like to be away from the hustle and bustle to recharge your batteries, I highly recommend this place; the fact that it's an hour's drive from anywhere is a major plus for you! If you want to tour Scotland maybe Vannoch isn't the place to stay, as you need to add two hours to your driving time! The Aga was a wonderful addition to the cottage. It added a certain something to staying there. Cooking was a joy with the aga, plus, the kitchen was always warm, so there was somewhere to dry off after a walk in the good old Scottish rain! If you like to see wildlife, Vannoch is perfect: We saw Golden Eagles, Hen Harriers, Red Squirrels, Heron, and some funny little brown birds I couldn't identify! Not to mention the daily Deer show across the river. Take a chair to the riverside and wait for the red deer to come down. It's well worth it.
    Mr Dray - September 2017
The Vannoch has got a very nice atmosphere, it has lots of light, peace, comfort. We loved the way it is cared for, the warm welcoming environment, in every room, the excellent location (so many deers on the other side of the river in the evening - we counted 71 one evening! but they were more - and sometimes a few even at morning!). We loved having a very well equipped kitchen (we were 4 and there was plenty of fine and well kept glassware, tableware, cutlery, cooking utensils, pots, washer, dryer, dishwater...), as well as having fresh linens and towels. Everything made our stay really very enjoyable, even the AGA, though it would have required a longer stay to find out how to cook better! It was then a pleasure coming home at sunset, and stay at the fireplace, after a day spent either among the charming nature (unforgettable Highlands' heather hills), or visiting locations such as Tayport beach, Dunkeld, St Andrews, Blair Castle. We absolutely loved our stay at Vannoch, thanks to the owner's excellent organization, care and taste.
    Mrs Zanoni - August 2017
Lovely house in a fantastic location. Very clean and well equipped house. Great walks in the area.
    Mrs Milner - July 2016
Great location, very wonderful home, all greatest, thanks a lot.
    Mr Reisig - June 2016
lovely cosy cottage in a very peaceful location, surrounded by mountains. Would definitely visit again.
    Mrs Watson - April 2016
Arrived at the cottage what a lovely area to relax and unwind get away from all the pressures of life great walks and lovely tea room at the bridge of balgie the road in needs some concentration but well with it the views are magnificent we will be back
    Mr Mackay - October 2015
Very nice house with a great view in the wonderful Scottish landscape! To cook and bake with AGA was a very interesting experience for my husband and me.
    Mrs Becker - August 2015
Had a memorable stay.A fantastic cottage that was clean comfortable and had everything you would want. The location is truly stunning with an incredible view from the cottage. Relaxing with a log fire watching deer from the window in the evening will long stay in the memory. Had some fantastic walks and even the drive through the glen to get to vannoch was a pleasure. All round had a great time and will return.
    Mr French - July 2015
Lovely warm cottage with all modern amenities incl a pay phone as there is no mobile signal coverage. Was lovely to use the aga and the wood fire. Set in the Scotland country side away from all the hussle and bussle, and a perfect location for a family who wants to get away from it all and feel at one with nature without having to go without the mod cons. Shops are just over an hour away so do bring lots of food. 'killin' and 'alberfeldy' are lovely villages to visit and if you like a thrift shop there is a couple. Best to head to Alberfeldy if you need to do a big shop as they have a largish co-op near the petrol station, although asda do deliver to the cottage if you want to order online. 'bridge of Balgie' is a short cut but not for the faint hearted. My husband and myself with our three children, youngest whom is three enjoyed our stay here imensly and can't wait to visit scotland again.
    Mrs Hamami - April 2015
We had a wonderful time at Vannoch Cottage. The quality of accommodation was of the highest standard with everything you could possibly need. The location was absolutely stunning and will remain in the memory for a long time to come. A particular highlight being the red deer wandering across the fields opposite in the late evening. Every evening our eight year old was grabbing her camera ready to take photos of the wildlife, mountains, water, clouds etc. Although you need to be prepared for a long drive through the glen the weather and the light ensure it is a different journey every time. One place that you should visit is Cluny House Gardens to see the Red Squirrels. An absolute treat for all.
    Mr Lander - August 2014
It seems a long way from anywhere at first but Vannoch Cottage, deep in Glen Lyon, is a wonderful way to step off Planet Hurly-Burly and find real peace among sheep, cattle, deer, birds and glorious hills, and it's actually only an hour or two's drive or so from some of central Scotland's must-see spots. The cottage is very generously equipped indeed and absolutely spotless. We found we need not have brought most of the stuff one normally takes to a self-catering holiday home. The notes and tips from the owner are clear and very helpful, and the welcome gift of wine and Scottish shortbread was much appreciated. Downside for some, maybe: the internet connection via satellite is very slow indeed (really only enough for email) and there is no mobile phone coverage. (Exactly as we'd hoped!) All in all, we could not have wished for better. Highly recommended.
    Ms Gunsell - June 2014
Super cottage, very comfortable. Three nice bedrooms, overall accommodation very good. It really is in the middle of nowhere, by the river Lyon. Beautiful and peaceful. Watching the deer by the river in the evening and morning is treat. Lots of wildlife and great walks. Perfect getaway from it all. Bring lots of food, nearest shop is a good 20-30 minute drive away. Bridge of Lochay hotel in Killin does a lovely sunday roast. Don't miss the falls of Dochart in Killin. Don't trust google maps with the postcode. Don't drive over the road from the River Lochay at Kennock (not the Kennock in Glen Lyon) there are huge potholes, passible with a real 4x4 but not wise in a family car. Drive over the Ben Lawyers road, if you have a head for heights. Otherwise take the road in from Fortingall.
    Mr Andrews - May 2014
A nice cottage, well equipped, very clean and friendly & helpful landlords. A bit in the middle of nowhere so if your looking for a quite place to relax, do some hiking in lovely nature and maybe fishing in the nearby river or lake lyon this is a good possibility. Maybe not the best starting point for daytrips it takes nearly an hour to get to a highway.
    Mr Herzog - July 2013
If you want a holiday in a beautiful isolated location Vannoch Cottage is the one to choose. The nearest shop is a 40 minute drive away along a glen that is breath taking. At night the glen is so peaceful, with only wildlife for company. We saw red deer in the forests along the glen. The isolation also makes it ideal for amateur astronomers as there is no light pollution in the glen so the night sky can actually be seen! One of the best bits of our holiday was cooking on the Aga, I even made some bread on it. The Crannog Centre near Kenmore is definitely worth a visit for the day to see how the Scots lived 2500 years ago. There are loads of hill walks to do so take walking boots with you and just enjoy the beauty of this glen. We will definitely be returning!
    Mrs Gordon - April 2013
The cottage was set in the most beautiful glen, which especially in August was the most beautiful setting. The small river just outside the front garden added to the close-to-nature feeling, as did the red deer which grazed on the opposite bank in the evenings. There were a couple of things which went wrong when we were there (that's life), but importantly the owner was quick to respond on each occassion and was really helpful in sorting everything out. It was an added bonus that Asda delivered groceries to the door for only £2, given the nearest shop was about an hour's drive away. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a proper Scottish holiday.
