A spacious three-bedroom bungalow, perfect for families or groups of friends seeking a peaceful base from which to explore the natural beauty and historic cities of Southern Scotland.

Relax in the serenity of your peaceful holiday home. Surrounded by rolling Dumfries and Galloway countryside yet just 2 miles from the bustling market town of Moffat, your recently completed property makes a perfect getaway for six guests. Take in the enchanting views from home or head straight out from your base across the picturesque Moffat Hills; find tranquil lochs and beautiful rivers, where you can watch the wildlife and go fishing if you choose. Walk the Annandale Way, a 55-mile long-distance walking route, which follows the River Annan and links the towns of Moffat and Annan.

Your bright, Scottish holiday home has been designed with your comfort in mind. Discover its airy interior is both inviting and practical. Enjoy large windows and light-filled spaces, as well as its subtle interior finish, which echoes the soft tones of the natural world around it.

Enter your single-storey retreat via a well-designed hallway, where there is ample space for your coats and walking boots. Return from long walks through your undulating surroundings to recline in your spacious kitchen/diner/lounge. Cook up feasts to tuck into round the table then relax on your sofa as you plan the follow day’s fun or watch a film together on the TV. Pull open the French doors onto your patio to bring the outside right in. As night falls, head off to one of your three inviting bedrooms, which share a family bathroom and a shower room.

Relax on your private patio or in your enclosed garden and take in the magnificent views across the fields towards the river. In summer evenings, choose to dine out here and admire the magical night skies. Moffat was Europe’s very first Dark Sky Town and stargazers will not be disappointed. Your holiday home offers private driveway parking.

Pull on your hiking boots and embark upon a section of the Annandale Way. Start in Moffat and visit the Devil's Beef Tub, a dramatic hollow formed by four hills: Great Hill, Peat Knowe, Annanhead Hill, and Ericstane Hill. This dramatic feature of the landscape has a long history as a hiding place for stolen cattle and covert gatherings of clans. While you are here look out for golden eagles.

Keen walkers could also head 10 miles to Grey Mare's Tail Nature Reserve, with its beautiful waterfall which cascades into Loch Skeen. And, of course, Moffat itself is also a joy to visit; the attractive town has a rich heritage and an interesting museum. Wander its streets to visit colourful independent shops, art galleries and monthly farmers' market. Book a table in one of its restaurants and look out for its many annual events, including music festivals, a country fair and a classic car rally.

You could also choose to spend a day at Drumlanrig Castle, approximately 30 miles away. This impressive building, which has 17 turrets and four towers, is set in a beautiful 90,000-acre estate, which boasts miles of superb walks and acres of gardens. Visit the castle to wander its 120 rooms and see works of art by the Dutch masters. Take part in outdoor activities, such as mountain biking and fishing.

Wee Hartfell is spacious, well maintained, spotlessly clean, well equipped. It's virtually impossible to find a fault. The hosts were meticulous in their attention to the one small issue we had, one which was largely beyond their control anyway. There was a welcome basket which was the most comprehensive we've ever had.

The cottage is in a good location, not too far from Moffat for provisions and good for accessing hill walks. There is a small campsite opposite, but this did not disturb the peacefulness of the location. We did not have any contact with the owner, access was via a key safe.
