Tucked away on the Airlie Estate amongst the Angus glens, this attractive stone cottage is the ideal place for couples or families to get away from it all and immerse themselves in the surrounding natural beauty. Against the backdrop of the mountains in the distance, you can take a stroll around the grounds, whilst keeping an eye out for the local wildlife such as deer, squirrels and polecats as well as beavers in nearby River Isla. The area is well-suited to keen walkers, cyclists and outdoor pursuits enthusiasts with a range of sports on offer.

As you approach up the sweeping driveway and past the well-manicured gardens, you will feel like Lord or Lady of the Manor. This charming cottage is well-presented throughout with a clear sense of heritage; the original features and traditional furniture are enhanced by the neutral palette to create a comfortable home that guests will find easy to relax in.

From the large hallway, head into the cosy lounge where everyone will want to be of an evening, snuggled in front of the roaring open fire; if it gets too warm, you can always open the stable door to let the fresh air in. Two steps lead down to the spacious kitchen/diner. Industrial shelving combines with the traditional Belfast sink to create the feel of a contemporary farmhouse kitchen with a modern range oven at its centre.

On the first floor, the large king-size room has a minimalist design, creating a bright open space to relax in. There is also a twin room on this floor and a traditional bathroom complete with free-standing roll-top bath.

Outside, there is plenty of space to stretch your legs as well as garden furniture for al fresco dining.

The nearest town, Kirriemuir, is 7.5 miles away. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Glens’, it is a great base for exploring the braes of Angus. It is also home to the birthplace of Peter Pan author, J.M. Barrie, which is now owned by the National Trust, and has many museums, statues and monuments as well as a Camera Obscura.

Market town, Blairgowrie, is also nearby (10 miles) and offers guests a range of amenities; it’s the starting place for the Snow Roads 90-mile scenic route through the Cairngorms.

There is lots of spectacular scenery to be seen in this area of Scotland either on foot or by bike. Munro-baggers will be keen to get to the summit of Ben Tirran (19 miles), whereas others might be happy to explore the beauty of Glen Clova (17 miles).

For wildlife enthusiasts, Scotland is the ideal holiday location with some of Britain’s rarest wildlife on your doorstep, but by heading to the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s reserve at the Loch of Lintrathen you may get a glimpse of majestic ospreys and playful otters.

This is an area steeped in history with a wealth of historic buildings and castles. One such castle is Glamis Castle (10 miles), often referred to as Scotland’s most beautiful castle, which is open to visitors daily.

If you’re looking for something less rural and more fast-paced, you can head to ‘Capital of Cool’ Dundee (19 miles) or a little further afield to the capital city Edinburgh (66 miles).

Lovely house. We liked that it felt 'old-fashioned' for instance a non-fitted kitchen. It helped us to imagine the castle retainers who had lived there for generations. Magnificent location. We were fortunate that we were there whilst the castle was unoccupied so we could enjoy the near estate almost as if it was all ours. Brilliant time to come asRead more the leaves were turning. A pretty, spacious, 4-person cottage in the immaculately kept grounds of Airlie Castle estate. Well heated and with an open log fire: a blissful, bucolic retreat.

We loved this cottage. For a home cook, the kitchen was amazing and the hub of the holiday. Bedrooms were a good size, loved the living room at night to cozy down by the fire.
